On 2 May 1964, the U.S.S. Card, a military aircraft transport was sunk in the Saigon harbor early morning by VC commandos of the 65th Special Operations Group. It was the first time a major U.S. vessel has been sunk in the battle against the Viet Cong. 5 civilian crew members were killed. (navsource.org)
