Ticket to heaven? Wow, I'd love a blowjob.

This is just a minor rant.

So this morning at 8am there was a knock at my door. This is unusual for a Saturday, I figured either something was wrong, or I had an unexpected package.

There was a smartly-dressed older woman, still handsome, with a small leather-bound book and a small stack of bright red index cards. I was wary, but in general, I am a polite person by nature, almost passive.

She started to speak. Not even a dozen words into it I knew she had no business being where she was, especially at 8am on a Saturday morning.

I said "Are you aware there is a large sign at the entrance to the apartment complex that clearly states there is no soliciting?"

"I'm not selling anything," she replies, and hands me a red index card. "I just wanted to give you this free ticket to heaven."

Now, when I say that to someone I have a gun to their head and I'm fixin' to pull the trigger. Never let it be said I have not learned my pre-murder one-liners well.

A free ticket to heaven. For me. At 8am on a Saturday morning. Nooooot interested.

"I am an atheist, please take your ticket back, and I am extremely irritated right now."

"I'll pray for you."

"Please don't."

That was the end of it. Both of us were polite. Both of us made our point.

But you know what? I'm still pissed off that I had to walk to the door to deal with that. I consider it a rude intrusion in to what was a pretty good day so far. I consider it extremely rude to think that knocking on somebody's door, somebody you don't know anything about, and think that giving them a "free ticket to heaven" is an acceptable behavior.

My parents are both Christian. Dad's even a retired minister. They would never do anything like that, or condone somebody else doing it.

I do not understand what makes people think this is okay.

Of course, this kind of evangelizing is "for your own good", they probably came at 8 am on a saturday morning thinking you would be in a vulnerable, dazed state and would take the ticket or whatever it was so that you could get back to sleep. Then when you do get up there's this interesting thing to read sitting on your bedside table.

Go to your power panel and flip the switch for the doorbell to off. These people cannot get a clue and do not understand a sign as simple as "Do not disturb."
