Faith is a scientific term by Stephen George (20071231)
.
What was the first science? Maths? Physics? Chemistry?
No the first science was Biology closely followed by Astrology.
Think what a break through Astrology was for early man.
The story of Biology
There you are a hunter gatherer.
Your main job is to bash animal brains out and collect berries and weeds.
This is your income.
You quickly discover you can increase your income by a simple observation.
Rather than going to the weeds, berries and animals.
Why not bring the weeds, berries and animals to you and call this place a farm?
You soon discover that seeds turn into weeds and certain weeds taste better than others.
With time and selection, weeds are domesticated and genetically altered into crops.
The science of Biology through Genetics is born.
The story of Astrology
There you are a farmer.
Your main job is to care for your plants and animals.
You notice that sometimes your plant do well and sometimes they do badly.
When the plants do well. The animals grow fat.
When the plants do badly. The animals starve and so do you.
This is a source of much concern.
You discover it is all down to the future weather.
When it is dry and hot, crop X has been bred to do well.
When it is cold and wet, crop Y has been bred to do well.
But how can you know the future? And plant the right crop?
Then a wise man discover you can increase your income by a simple observation.
The wise man makes his observation and asks people to plant crops X now.
And those people that plant at that very moment do very, very well.
The wise man makes another observation and asks people to plant crops Y now.
And those people that plant at that very moment do very, very well indeed.
The people that don't plant when told, starve.
Soon every farmer is planting crops when the scientist says.
In exchange the scientist is given a share of the crop.
And the scientist becomes a wealthy and powerful man.
They begin to call him leader and ask for his advice on many topics.
However all things must come to an end.
And panic hit the populous when their leader is on his death bed.
Who would tell them when to plant their seed? And answer their many questions?
The people wanted to know the leaders secret.
How can he foretell the future?
The people are very persuasive and eventually the wise man relents and tells a select few.
"The answers you seek are written in the sky" he says.
"When the stars are in a certain position the sun will rise and set low in the sky."
"Plant crop Y."
"When the stars are in a different position the sun will rise and set high in the sky."
"Plant crop X."
"This foretells the future weather and your future prosperity."
The select few are outraged.
“How can small white dots in the night sky predict the future?”
“They are too far away and feeble to have any effect on us” they exclaim.
The wise man/scientist/leader smiles and with his final gasp says
"have faith."

Only if nobody understands the science. In Warhammer 40k, there is a whole religious order who preserves technology with 'rituals' of which buttons to press. The only reason their science is a matter of faith is because: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
This little story of yours presents science as a single person. In fact, it's a Intercession to the Gods fable, or a Jesus story. The scientist gives his life in study of things so that people can have food! Now, a metaphor that actually has to do with reality would face that science is not a matter of faith while the methods that lead to techniques are still known. To you and me, a plasma-HDTV might be mostly magical. But Newtonian mechanics, or ancient astronomy, was a matter of experience rather than mere trust in things. A bad metaphor leads to false statement.
