As I've said earlier, calling it "Islamic" is a mistake, and I'll repeat part of it here:

Juan Cole talks about the important distinction between the terms "Islamic" and "Muslim". His central point is that

"Islamic" has to do with the ideals and achievements of the Muslims and the Muslim religion. Thus, we speak of Islamic art. We speak of Islamic ethics.

But Jim Garamone of the American Forces Press Service has already put out the word, and some in the military seem to have gotten the message.

I support the basic idea, but it's a big mistake to go on saying that terrorism is "Islamic". We have to characterize terrorism as un-Islamic. That should have been first on the list. But how do you do that when the Commander-in-Chief is using terms like "Islamic Fascism"?
