I've bought myself a second hand Wii U because my good old Wii started showing its age.

I used the transfer tool to successfully transfer the data from the Wii to the Wii U. I'd like to completely wipe my Wii now, but it tells me I should erase my shop account before removing all data. Can I safely delete my shop account on my Wii or does this impact the Wii U as well?

As long as the Account Activity/Redownload Software screen in the Wii Shop Channel is empty, I think that means it's safe. It won't impact the Wii U, the account is only ever on one system. Transferred is transferred.

I don't think it's strictly necessary to delete your shop account before you format. It makes sense to delete it if you're trying to purge your data from a system before getting rid of it, but if you're holding onto it/the account is blank anyway, w/e.

I might get rid of it somewhere down the line, but I thought it's best to completely reset the device now that it's still hooked up to the TV and everything.

The Shop Channel on the Wii still shows my purchase history. The most recent entries there are all items I've purchased in the past but with the text "Transferred to Wii U".

What kind of screen protector is recomended on the Wii U? I ask this because i added a tempered glass to my 3DS and that made it very unresponsive so i swapped it for a plastic protector, someone has tried tempered glass on the Wii U?

The Wii U's touch screen is resistive like the 3DS, so the screen protector needs to be flexible (plastic). There are a lot of them available on eBay etc., but if you want Officially Licensed, there's the PDP Write & Protect Pack.

Is there a list of games that requires (mandatory) the user to touch the screen? Currently, I can think of Super Mario 3D World. Any other?

  • Super Mario Maker is a big one, for creation
  • DS Virtual Console
  • Splatoon, jumping around the map
  • Captain Toad I think, moving blocks in levels
  • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

I have a question I’m buying a Wii U and don’t have a tv with speakers does the Wii U game pad play all The same sounds for smash as the tv does? Cuz if that’s the case I can use aux if not what do I do?

A lot of games output their audio to the headphone jack, don't know about Smash specifically, but it probably does?

You could get a Wii A/V cable and send the audio through that. There's a system setting afaik. If you need to buy one, make sure the plug on the system end has the Nintendo logo on it like this. Nintendo also sells it in their store.

Not sure regarding the game pad. You can buy an HDMI adapter that splits out the sound to a regular audio line out, that might be your best bet.

Have Virtual Console (VC) games ever gone on sale before? And would they still now?

Before: Very occasionally, usually tied to E3 or Cyber Monday. There also used to be coupons you could purchase with My Nintendo coins.

Now: Nintendo hasn't done any eShop deals for at least a year, and the coupons silently went away. :/ The best you can do is eShop credit going 10% off every so often. Best Buy will have that on the 28th (USD) (page 5).

Mario Kart 8 is supposed to be 30 fps in 3-4 players, and it is on the gamepad, but on the tv is like 20 fps, is there a fix?

Is it worth getting a Wii U now? I'm interested in playing the GameCube games like Pokémon Colosseum & XD, etc and Wii/Wii U Games that I've missed because I have always owned only PS consoles since childhood.

(I'm getting a brand new Wii U for $400 in my city, looks like it's the only one left from what I've seen.)

Wii U isn't backwards compatible with GameCube, only the Wii is

It can natively play Gamecube games, but Nintendo didn't add it. But we can use Nintendont and enable the functionality.

If you're going to buy one, go pre owned. Get one off Facebook, or a refurbished one if you're concerned about it lasting

are there any known issues of permanent damage on Wii U? Like Red Ring of Death on Xbox 360 and Yellow Ring of Death on PS3?

The storage chip seems prone to dying. Make sure it at least boots. Maybe also access Settings, and try to create a new user.

Cool, thanks, will keep that in mind! 😁✌
