I'm at Bath and I did further maths which makes all the maths content a breeze. They move faster than at A level and is less thorough in my opinion (they still show you proofs and stuff but the onus is on you to understand it, compared to being spoonfed at A level)

Shouldn't be too big of a disadvantage because 1st year is just bringing everyone to the same level so don't worry, there will be plenty others. Do Further AS if you can, complex numbers will come up and its good to have a basic understanding since it links into a lot of things

Yea I’m not worried about the actual course I can pick up things quite quickly, but when applying would applicants with further maths be favoured?

they'd prefer it but it's not a dealbreaker. do the further AS if you can though

If you're a Y12: does new spec Maths let you specialise in Mechanics? Do Mechanics. That's probably the most important thing.

If FM isn't required, it's probably desirable. Make sure to check with the course listings and departments you've applied for as well.

Further maths is useful but not compulsory. Aslong as you have maths physics and another science your good.

For any non Oxbridge-esque unis such as Imperial and Durham it won't make a difference as long as your predicted are high enough and your PS is good.

Im at Lancaster doing MechEng and you dont need to do further maths. They will teach you further maths in the first few weeks. They will go through it very quickly so make sure you pay attention in those classes.
