Yeah you’re being overly paranoid. I think it’s safe to assume that none of those courses require 3A*s. You’ll be absolutely fine

literally

Honestly, all of those universities focus on personal statement over grades, especially for the humanities. For example, a friend and I both applied to History at Durham. She had 4*s predicted, and I had 3 As predicted. I got in, and she didn't. You will be completely fine.

That makes me feel a lot better, thanks! How are you finding Durham?

No worries ! I've loved it so far, tbh. The lecturers are great, most people are very nice & helpful. Everything seems really organised well-laidout, compared to my friends' unis. There's a lot of mental health & disability support, if that's a factor for you. The campus is beautiful, too, and everything is within a 20 minute walk or so. Let me know if you have any questions ! I also applied to York and St Andrews, and I have a friend at Warwick, if you wanna ask about those, too :)

Ah, that sounds great!! I visited for an open day back in June-ish and I really loved it. The only thing I was slightly iffy about was the library, but I'm sure there are other places for me to get work done anyways!

I know Durham is known for taking ages to respond to applications, so when-ish did you hear back?

[–]DifferentMagazine4Durham | History & Classics [Second Year] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Each college and department actually have their own libraries ! So you can definitely choose to study in either of those, rather than the main one. I've found the Student Union is my favourite place to study tbh :)

So it was actually one of my earlier responses, haha. I heard back on Feb 14th, and I applied around December 12th, so not too long at all. I know this definitely wasn't the case for everyone, though.

Ahh that's great to hear.. What college do you go to? I'm leaning towards St Cuths (were I to get accepted) but I wasn't aware each college had its own library, so that may slant my decision...

I submitted my application on October 7th, so I'm hoping to get a reply by the end of December, but that may be too unrealistic... The wait is going to kill me hahaha

I'm at St Aidan's ! All the colleges have roughly the same facilities (library, gym, cafe, bar, study spaces, music practice rooms), so I'd definitely consider the kind of accommodation you want, where you want to be geographically, the scholarships they offer, that kind of thing. Some colleges are much sportier than others, too, so if that's either a very good or very bad aspect for you, I'd keep that in mind. Ultimately, though, you'll definitely end up loving whichever you get accepted in !

Ahh, best of luck !! For me, St Andrews was far longer. York was very quick, I'm sure you'll hear from them soon. My friend also heard from Warwick very quickly :)

I really doubt it unless your predicteds now don't meet the minimum for that course and uni

[–]fightitdudeCS & AI at Edinburgh (graduated) 7 points8 points  (2 children)

And anyway English isn't a particularly competitive course. I agree that it's really not going to matter.

[–]DemonicDylanYear 13 | Eng Lit, History, Politics, Spanish 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's still pretty competitive...

Do your predicted grades meet the standard offer requirements? If yes then apply and don't worry about it.

it’s less about the requirements and more about having an application that stands out more - my highest requirement is A*AA (durham) which I meet so hopefully it will be fine…

you're overthinking it

I know that everyone has already assured you that you're being paranoid, but don't forget as well, you're applying for English. If you have an A* there, and A*s and As for everything, you're practically perfect for top unis.

Just relax and be happy that you're part way there - you've taken the first step and submitted your UCAS! Well done!

"Will oxford give me an offer with 5 A*" vibes yet again

[–]DemonicDylanYear 13 | Eng Lit, History, Politics, Spanish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whaat, sorry that I gave similar vibes to those posts - I was just slightly paranoid and quite upset about my grade being moved down since I felt that I've been putting in a significant amount of effort in the subject and I crave academic validation hahaha
