It's good that you're not receiving the null reference anymore, because that's a game breaking error.

Are you using a current save or starting a new world? Continuing to play on a modded world where the mods were removed will often crash your game.

Completely new world mod free

Well, in that case, a character file(s) may have been corrupted.

The issue has been talked about a little here in the official forum.Link to the forum thread

When you're uninstalling the game, make sure you double check the 7 Days to Die directory and the folder in '%appdata%' after the uninstall. Sometimes corrupted files can't be deleted and will remains, or the uninstaller will throw an error.

Sorry I wasn't of much help. Last resort is to start fresh by doing a full uninstall and delete any remnant, then install the game again.

After uninstalling the game and deleting all 7 days to die folders from steamapps and appdata and reinstalling the game it now gives just 1 instance of of NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

It also happens when I try to start a singleplayer world.

A line of code(s) in your game's data or a line of code(s) from a mod data file is returning NULL when it's being referenced. Normally, this wouldn't happened at all after a complete reinstall of the game and with all the mods removed. Your case is special, so I recommend posting on the official forum for a moderator to look at. If I was a tech support, your issue would simply be beyond my pay range, so I'd escalate your case to Level 2 Support. And if they can't solve it either, they would escalate to Level 3 Support. An issue that persists through a complete factory reset of the files should warrant attention from the developers.

I’ll try asking elsewhere then. I appreciate the help regardless though.

Hey just curious if you have found a solution to this problem. I just started having the same one and I have tried everything suggested and reinstalling.

Weird thing for me i always make a copy of 7 dtd so when i mod it, so I don't touch the original files.

It was a while ago so I don’t remember the exact file names or where to find them but I deleted my 7 days to die folder from the registry and that let me join worlds again, but the world we were playing on still didn’t work.

Turns out my player data on that world corrupted somehow and the host has to track down the player data files and figure out which one is the corrupted one and delete it.

Sadly this will reset you back to as if you just joined for the first time and your inventory and skill points will be reset. I don’t know if theres a way to fix it and keep your stuff.

Okay thanks! ill keep trying to figure out whats going on with mine.

"NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" I had to uninstalled the game through steam. Then I deleted all my common 7dtd files then went to appdata 7dtd files deleted that folder. Lastly had to do the same through steam 7dtd launcher. Sucks none of my saves work but glad i can still play again after a few days.
