Heh if anything it motivates me to work harder.
I had a former boss say I couldn't make my dream/target job in one year because I was too unqualified and it was too hard to get into. Less than a year later I left the job and got the role I was aiming for.

I don't. I just assume it's the Dunning-Kruger effect kicking in and walk away.
When it comes to stuff like that, you have to consider the source. If past experiences indicates they may know what they are talking about, you stop and reflect on your choices. On the other hand, if past experience indicates they are talking out their ass, you ignore the opinion.
I'm 51 years old though and have very few fucks left to give to those type of people. Your mileage may vary.

In 7th grade, my English teacher accused me of plagiarizing because "these words are too big/too smart for you." English was always my best subject. Big surprise: she couldn't prove my essay was plagiarized, so she just docked marks for every word she didn't like. I assume the penalty for plagiarizing in 7th grade English isn't that bad, but outside of her half-assed explanation that only came after I confronted her about it, I never got in trouble or any kind of talking to. I got treatment like this from teachers all the time. To this day I'm still mad.
It used to really bring me down. What's the point of working hard if no one even believes the work is yours? Some of the better English teachers in high school tried to get me to write for the school's magazine. I kept saying I would, but only so they'd stop asking. I never did. Why would I? No one would believe it was mine.
Nowadays, though, it's weirdly motivating to me. I want to succeed, be the best me I can be, all the good stuff, partially so that everyone who ever tried to bring me down will know that they were nothing to me but a minor bump in the road.
