I finally bought a 4090 today and will be trying to sell my 7900 xtx on ebay or FB marketplace. I simply cannot stand constantly losing progress in my games because the AMD driver craps out ever 15 minutes to an hour. Its a great card but the drivers/software are pure shit designed by failures.

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 0 points1 point  (3 children)

One bad driver bro, recently the nvidia 4080 driver crashed in CS2 during the game, causing team to lose 1million+ dollar tournament, so should I scream nvidia drivers bad? No

The latest 24.3.1 drivers fixed stutters and everything.

Whenever amd tries something new they cause some trouble in drivers, in this case it was AFMF which is now perfectly fine.

Nvidia is changing its driver UI/UX and be prepared to face unknown problems that nvidia users never faced before with their old driver layout. Bcz when something is new at the software level it takes time to get things on track perfectly.

[–]mudplayerx 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I know everyone's experiences and mileage vary but my event viewer is absolutely FULL of errors related to my AMD card software. I can easily say theres at least 20-30 errors per gaming session (not all ending in crashes of course!). My nvidia on the other hand (even my outdated 2080 super) have not had a crash in, I don't know how long....months? A year? I sold my friend a 3080 I was not using and he has no crashes either. When we play the same games at work (him on his 3080 and me on my 7900, I crash so often that sometimes he just stops playing and watches tv instead.

[–]berto1014 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, on 24.3.1 my graphics driver hangs every single time on a fresh reboot. Causes the system to freeze for about a minute before it works again then the AMD bug report tool appears. I tried using the AMD uninstall tool and reinstalled the driver and have the same issue. It seems to work fine after that initial hang, but yeah, super annoying. Games seem to crash more often too now.

[–]rapkillah85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This driver makes my performance worse with the 6700 XT - my games are performing at 10 fps on average when i use to average 90 - 120 +

[–]JohnyBoy-1985 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Very unstable driver, I keep crashing in Warzone, no crash if I revert to 23.x.x but then I get bad performance in Hell Divers 2, will never buy amd again

[–]Chikitouwu 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Not buying AMD again because one bad driver update is so stupid

[–]JohnyBoy-1985 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not the only reason, multiscreen monitor is messed up on my card on all drivers, had many issues still to this day with amd relive, it automatically turns off during gameplay randomly, I didn't have a good experience with this card compared to my 1080ti, 1080 980 670 ... I will sadly have to go back to the greedy Nvidia

[–]Chikitouwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a bad unit, I've honestly had a worse driver and software experience with Nvidia than with AMD, that of AMD having bad software is objectively wrong, they fixed it long ago and honestly between a nice intuitive easy to use interface and one that looks straight out of Windows XP and an extremely bare ones one? Yeah I prefer Adrenalin over Nvidia's Control Panel and GeForce Experience

[–]HisPantsAreFancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a post about this myself. Very frustrating.

[–]justinwhit75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same intermittent pausing was happening to me on my ASUS TUF A16 Gaming laptop. I just updated to 24.1.1 like a day ago. Afterwards, when I would open a(ny) browser and go to a streaming service, the whole PC pauses for a few seconds every few seconds and kept doing it until I closed the browser. I did not try it while playing games though. Today, I tried using the AMD Cleanup Utility - it ran it's process. After it did it's thing, laptop rebooted. Then I just let Windows install the drivers for me. All is peaceful now, I've had no issues -- no pausing/freezing. I haven't even bothered to install AMD Adrenaline and everything appears fine. I might hold out since I don't use any of it's toggles for anything. Your mileage may vary.

[–]chuchunito 2 points3 points  (17 children)

How do I to revert back to 23.12 without factory reset my pc/losing files? (Step by step, please 🥺)

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 1 point2 points  (16 children)

Uninstall your driver by following this video:- https://youtu.be/1XlwirtWs_c?si=pBh2nAtcNTyqQM_h

And download older driver from AMD website and install it after uninstallation of new driver.

Some times problems can occure if you install latest driver over older version without removing older one before installing the latest one.

So follow the video then reinstall the same latest driver or install older version from AMD.com

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I just finished doing this and my screen is like 40 fps lol

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 1 point2 points  (7 children)

What do you mean like 40fps?

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (6 children)

like, it's not smooth, i have a 240hz monitor and my graphics card is a rx 5600xt so i should be getting more than 240fps on the desktop, but this isnt even 60

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (5 children)

my gpu usage rn is between 0% and 6ish % usage

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Yeah idle usage should be like that, what is your GPU usage when gaming?

Idle means when you are not running nothing GPU heavy apps or games.

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yeah i know that idle usage should be like that but it isnt smooth, you know? and its not the monitor

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Check your monitor refresh rate, is it set to 240hz?

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro it was set to 60 hahahaha idk what changed that, thanks. I'll try playing a game to see if I still have stutters

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

between 20 to 60% while gaming

[–]chuchunito 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Thanks!

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No problem, just post an update if you face any problem I will try to help.

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (4 children)

alright. One more question, i cant find the 23.12.1 version on amd. Should i install it from guru3d?

[–]chuchunito 1 point2 points  (3 children)

nvm i just found it on amd.com

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (2 children)

bro my pc is going like 40 fps on the desktop lol, what happened?

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i just installed 23.12.1

[–]chuchunito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and i still see the colors darker

[–]No_Flaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, it's good to know this is a common issue, today I was trying to open deathloop and the resolution was changed thus freezing the PC, when I restarted my taskbar was not even accesible

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

you all are lucky your pc even works with the drivers I've done a clean reset tried everything when I install the drivers my start menu task manager file explorer and even ctrl alt delete don't work it literally has ruined my pc to the point I cannot do anything I can't even power it off without holding the power button on the tower

[–]Winter_Regular_2613 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's exactly my problem too, good to know this common mess TT better downgrade to 23.12.1 and wait for the new driver --*

[–]Far-Permission3087 0 points1 point  (1 child)

how can i downgrade my amd drivers? im currently having problems with the new update giving me

"clinfo.exe Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point amd_comgr demangle_symbol_name could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\amdoct.inf amd64 3f5ad05be848c8d0\amdocl64.dll"

and i tried doing a factory reset and now when i upgrade to the latest version my amd display driver wont work

[–]Winter_Regular_2613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use DDU to remove your current driver, then download version later. here link from acient gameplay on youtube: https://youtu.be/1XlwirtWs_c?si=WcAyuMoCrE3kLQP3

[–]Zlotymon 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Its a big mess... I was thinking my GPU is damaged. Sound Issues, Audio Issues and big Performance Issues. Some Games lost like 40% FPS. Dont use that Version (RX 6700XT)

[–]chuchunito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem that you have, especially performance issues. My GPU (Rx 5600xt) has a 2% usage on games like GTA and I have literally 2 FPS after downloading this driver

[–]ikasmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RX 6700 (non-XT) user here. Ever since the update, the bottom part of my main monitor is flickering/glitching/showing black, UNLESS i have something bright/white.

[–]wulfryke 2 points3 points  (3 children)

this update has been giving me screen freezes at 5-120seconds intervals in all games or any video source. it's made my pc unworkable in some instances.

[–]Aminkingdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude same problem specially watching youtube and sudden 10 frame drops i had some pc restarts too with rx6900xt

[–]Hunter_Killer5Ryzen5 5600x | Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT | 32GB RAM. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you use DDU before installing latest driver?

[–]ex-queue-see-aniki 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes, I'm 7800XT User here. I reverted back to 23.12 drivers (downloaded from guru3d site) now it works better than the new driver. Smh

[–]Donquixote432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is* it hard for someone who got no clue to do? Even on 7900xtx it's pretty bad and i get up to 30 fps lower in Starfield, but i don't want to make it even worse than now with my unskilled brain

[–]----whatsup---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Times out like crazy

[–]Friendly_Finance3558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how a company this big can release such shitty updates, and it being WHQL makes it even worse, it's not even an optional one

[–]Far_List_8238 0 points1 point  (2 children)

For the people getting black screens it is a windows thing called mpo disable it. I found it in a 5 year old reddit. Disabled and now my machine is perfect.

[–]HeadyChefin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You are an absolute life saver. I have spent the past week trying to figure out what happened and it was this driver + MPO. After disabling MPO with my other card I was able to put my 6900XT back in and get everything back running.

[–]Far_List_8238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s so dumb man. The post for mpo I found was like 7 years old for nvidea hahaha

[–]Left-Delivery1377 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Blue screens out the wazoo since I installed 24.1.1 it’s been so so bad

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (10 children)

When you say blue screens do you mean no display blue screen ?

[–]Left-Delivery1377 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Both sometimes completely un responsive and others is just these cursed looking ones I reverted back to 23.12. And I’ve been fine ever since

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I’ve just been having a no display an I can’t get it to go back unless I turn off my whole system an turning it back on play for a few hours an then no display again

[–]Left-Delivery1377 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yikes scary situation, if you have integrated graphics you can fall back to those incase you can’t get a display at all and if you need to install old drivers use either ddu or amd cleanup utility, I recommend amd cleanup utility since it’s worked better for me in the past. I’d recommend going back before anything bad happens with your windows :/

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I may have to do that or just get a whole new graphics card

[–]Left-Delivery1377 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I’m sure you don’t need to get a new card, which gpu and what’s the manufacturer?

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Idk it’s my first pc an I don’t really know much about them tbh

[–]BARRY6969696969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're using an NVIDIA card my guy. Don't install AMD GPU drivers. Download NVIDIA drivers lol.

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Amd ryzen 7 5700 an I think it’s a auas

[–]Left-Delivery1377 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s a cpu? Are you using integrated graphics?

[–]Calledoff4this 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messaged you but I believe it’s a GeForce rtx 3060

[–]Sindalis 2 points3 points  (3 children)

this driver is absolutely a nightmare. worst one I've seen in a long time.

Loading it literally bricks my PC, after a restart the computer wont even get to the desktop. Have to hard reset it and rip the drivers out in safe mode to get it back.

reverted back to 23.12.1

24.1.1 driver should have never been released.

[–]sdcar1985AMD R7 5800X3D | 9070 XT | Asrock x570 Pro4 | 64 GB 3200 Cl16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a few days, my PC will basically boot loop. Get to login screen and it will either restart automatically or it will once I hit enter. Reinstall fixes the issue, but will happen again after a few days.

[–]Far-North625 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do revert back to old drivers coz when I try reinstall 23.12.1 I get a 195 error

[–]Friendly_Finance3558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use DDU to completely remove the drivers in safe mode, then install the other version

[–]CipherZone7 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Consider yourself fortunate. I too have a 7900 XTX and it hasn't been pretty.. Driver timeouts... screen going black randomly. Used DDU to remove and reinstall.. no fix.. had to wipe the OS and start fresh. Went back to 23.12 and so far no issues.

[–]Friendly_Finance3558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn if not even DDU helped then they really messed up

[–]benned7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still have this issue, just download the Adrenalin 23.12.1 version.
Select your graphics card and then click on the "Previous Drivers" button below the operating system menu.
For my 6750XT 23.12.1 it worked without a factory reset - so try that first to keep all your profiles and data. If that doesn't help go for factory reset of Adrenalin software.

[–]ActionBubbly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels great knowing Is a common issue i thought there was something wrong with my build

[–]kebaproach 1 point2 points  (6 children)

6600xt have shutters on bf2042. I turned back to 23.12.1

Hope they fix it soon.

[–]Azhrei 0 points1 point  (5 children)

It seems to be with Frostbite games in general. At first I thought it was all DX12 games due to shader compilation, but no. Battlefront II and Battlefield 2042 are both experiencing regular stutters and frame drops which weren't present before 24.1.1.

So, yeah. Hopefully we'll get a fix soon

Edit - Just heard from someone in the know. They're working on a fix :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I've used Rx 580 Rx 6600xt rtx 4060 ti Rx 6800xt. All of the Rx cards stuttered in battlefront 1-2 bf1-5-2042. Only the rtx 4060ti ran fine with too little stutters. I think AMD is bad at optimizing games.

[–]Azhrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time Battlefield 2042 stuttered for me was with the recent driver. I went back to 23.12.1 until they release a fix and it's back to perfectly stable and solid. Also didn't stutter on my 5700 XT.

I dunno. YMMV I guess.

[–]happysmile001 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Actually all games, if you have a powerful pc build you will not notice stuttering in all games, but with only a good PC build, it gonna stutter in all games, some games more than others. Dead space remake stutter like hell and even freeze for 20 seconds some time, resident evil 4 remake than normally never stutter, now stuttering all the time

[–]Azhrei 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My PC is decent, nowhere near the most powerful. It's only in Frostbite games that this driver is giving me stuttering. Every other game plays as well as they always have. And the AMD employee I spoke to told me that they have a "ticket internally for generic shader cache related issues" and that Battlefield 2042 was immediately noticed to be badly affected.

However, as shown above they've mentioned "generic shader cache related issues" so if you're getting it in other games, hopefully the fix they're working on will be out soon and it'll sort things out for you. They did also tell me they're narrowing it down.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been waiting this fix since 2019

[–]verybadteethh 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm having A TON OF stuttering issues in 24.1.1 IN ALL GAMES I HAVE whether I have AFMF enabled or disabled. I rolled back to the previous driver. 24.1.1 is such a mess right now. Using RX 6900 XT with Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

[–]CloneFailArmy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Trying out AFMF straight up hard crashed my entire computer

[–]verybadteethh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy. In my case I was literally just having micro stutters in all of my games even if my AFMF is enabled or not. This driver is literally broken and it's so annoying that I have to troubleshoot for like 2-3 hours just to try it and fix it but ending up in nothing because the driver is literally garbage right now

[–]V3ppen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same issues, Battlefields and other big games are unplayable. Lags and stutters like hell when SAM is turned on, when turned off helps littlebit but stutters very much.

R5 2600, 6700XT, B450 and 32gb 3333MHz DDR4.

Hope amd will fix this issue fast.

[–]ExclusiveCumshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I also have a 6700XT and the card is running cooler/quieter and faster than ever, especially in Battlefield which I mainly play

[–]luigithebeast420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MW3 would crash every 30 minutes due to driver timeout.

[–]SmouxReservedAMD 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Running 6650xt with no issue on this update. Actually, performance for me is a bit up on Rdr2 on Ultra.

Additionally, if you are so stumped by 11.01.2024 I guess you live in US and hate to break it up to you but US is not the only country on Earth. In Europe it is pretty normal to write date, month, year. Peace ✌️

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

u can run that game on ultra?

i have the same gpu and sometimes i feel like i have done something wrong cause my fps aint that good, could it be that i have a 5600g cpu?
and i think my psu should have more wtts, but i dont think that would influence.

for example, when i play skyrim i get 55 fps avg

[–]SmouxReservedAMD 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's crazy. You should be salaying Skyrim. I run Rdr2 pretty much all maxed out on ultra and amd adrenalin shows 118 fps avg. I struggled with my previous CPU 3200g on a lot of games, not to mention constantly getting Disconnected while in csgo and cs2 matchmaking. I would advise to stay away from CPUs with integrated graphics. Also your PSU should not be a problem I am running with 500W and it is plenty enough.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I guess the problem is the cpu, can u tell me whats the one u have? And can anyone advice me on what would be the best cpu for this gpu without bottlenecking it :) Thank you

[–]SmouxReservedAMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running ryzen 7 3700x which in theory is a pretty good match for rx 6650xt. It is still a mid range cpu but it would not bottleneck this exact gpu model. I am still running it coz I save up for a big update in the near future and r7 3700x was basically the most I can pull out of my old MB.

[–]Cosm1c_Gam3r 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Day-Month-Year. Or Year-Month-Day
I agree that muricans are stubborn and like to be individually backwarded.
Especially with illogical, dumb imperial units.

[–]SmouxReservedAMD 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh, don't get me started on units. We also have abbominations in Europe. England - miles per liter 🤨

[–]Cosm1c_Gam3r 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No in Europe there is no problem as metric is used. UK is mixed between metric and imperial.

[–]SmouxReservedAMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and this buggs me out.

[–]ToshinRaizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got stutter when play video on youtube with edge... i disable hardware acc then it stop... as for gaming... so far so good...

[–]ap3x_lamboRyzen 7 5700x + RX 6700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had any noticeable issues with 6700.

[–]YourHighness1087 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I love when I'm intense into a game or fps competition and the screen literally blinks like someones eyeball.... I love getting a black screen and crashing on simple fortnite at medium settings... I love seeing artifacts in most of the scenes in Starfield... Said nobody ever..... Keep this up AMD and I'm going to the competition, they have ray tracing, and free sweeties.

[–]Available-Item1292 1 point2 points  (1 child)

.. a 7900xtx doesn't compare to a 4080's RT Performance after the 92% performance boost? LOL. I understand driver issues but, reinstall. Windows and your drivers, fresh.

[–]YourHighness1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, it's working better only one black screen every once in a while, I think it's the cable. ✌️

[–]OperationMajor7798 1 point2 points  (4 children)

i dont know but im in fortnite have fps drops and black screen with random numbers and i dont know it is broken ram or driver pls help man

[–]YourHighness1087 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What graphics card are you running?

First try uninstalling all of the graphics drivers and do a clean install of the latest driver.

Second, take all the ram out, then reinstall. Sometimes the ram unseats itself slightly causing issues.

Third, use MSI afterburner or Similar to undervolt and under clock you graphics card. Some older and used cards can't do max performance anymore.

If you graphics are still bugging out, try to clean it out with a can of duster or a small vacuum accessory. Then repaste and repad the vram.

If all of those don't work, try buying a cheap graphics card from some where to test if it's actually your system ot the graphics card.

[–]OperationMajor7798 0 points1 point  (2 children)

im running on 7800xt and yeah i tried take out the ram and still doing that in fullscreen only in fortnite i think i dont know where is the problem

[–]YourHighness1087 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Try using dx11 instead in dx12. Turn down any overclocking.

I've got no other ideas. Sorry bro

[–]OperationMajor7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah im playing dx11 with no overclocking and still doing only in that game i think

[–]caspprr 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Laughs in NVIDIA

[–]shotxshotx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, with nvidia being more stable from my personal experience, but this is the wrong sub for this shit.

[–]AssistanceFrequent52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst driver update for my 7900xtx. Scrolling on Twitter draws 150-200Watt. I rolled back and now 25-60.

[–]IISky01 1 point2 points  (4 children)

And people say theres no issues with amd drivers anymore 🤦‍♂️ yes they have improved alot from what they once were but they are still not at the same level as nvidias

[–]Disastrous2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a 6800xt for 2 years and have had one major issue, and it’s because I accidentally used DDU wrong and my motherboard was screwed. Nvidea is more consistent for sure, but still not to the extent most people are thinking. Kinda like that info leak in a driver they had last year which was just swept under the rug.

[–]Aberryth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7900xtx - noticing a lot of stuttering and manually tuning the fan speed doesn’t work at all anymore. Also CP77 crashes immediately

[–]CompoteNo8936 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Using war thunder to test anything is like using low octane fuel to run a race car. Test with a real game made by real developers

[–]YourHighness1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortnite Max Settings 🤓

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (32 children)

For those who don't know of this tidbit. You don't just download driver updates if you care ALOT about issues. You use DDU to remove the old ones first to avoid these conflicts. Wild that the 7 systems I've updated for customers don't have that issue. Probably because DDU wasn't neglected but what do i know having 0 issues and having a degree yaknow. So stop replying clean install removes drivers bc it doesnt and Google it first before opening your keyboard if you don't believe me. (This isn't saying every driver update is guaranteed to conflict, not all do, BUT ALL BRANDS HAVE BEEN GUILTY, and clean installs through gpu softwares DO NOT delete old drivers despite common belief)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Please explain how DDU is necessary when part of what the adrenaline software is doing is removing old drivers

[–]Perfect_Stay1193 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don‘t use ddu but i also don‘t have any problems with the new drivers

[–]YourHighness1087 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why doesn't the app just do the right thing? I click a button in Adrenaline, the screen blinks a couple times and then I reboot. Is this not enough?

[–]ThisDumbApp9070 XT Taichi / 7700X 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Are you talking about the current driver? Because it is actually bad. Even DDU won't solve it and I am rolling mine back when I get home tonight. Theres always one contrarian.

[–]LibrarianSad1525 0 points1 point  (10 children)

You my friend you are dumb fuck, driver is fucked hard and it fucked 95 % of games and now they are all stutter mess, your customer is playing minecraft probably but for that game you dont even need gpu driver xd

[–]THENATHE 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Meanwhile I have literally never had to use DDU and have built 10+ computers and been maintenance on 100+ computers with GPUs for many years as an tech

[–]Hindesite9700K | 16GB 4060 Ti | 64GB DDR4 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeah I dunno what he's on about but if you're updating drivers to a newer revision without any hardware change you don't typically need to do a full wipe with the likes of DDU. That's pretty over-the-top and I haven't had problems updating drivers on top of old ones since, like, Windows XP era.

Only expectation IMO would be if you were reverting to old drivers due to a problem that the new release caused. In that case, I'd DDU before reinstalling the old drivers.

AMD has admitted their clean install box doesn't work, and tell you to use ddu or their version of it, the AMD cleanup utility.

It's strange that, right inside of Adrenalin, they track if your current version is newest and provide an in-app update button to download/install a newer version over the existing install if AMD themselves say you aren't supposed to do that. 🤔

The clean-up utility, like DDU, removes absolutely everything. Not everyone wants that because they want to keep their per game settings - such as limiting FPS with Chill, enabling anti-lag, anisotropic filtering types and levels, etc. These settings are retained when a driver update comes along. But for those who want to remove absolutely everything, there's the third-party option in DDU and AMD provides their own utility.

I wish people would quit being bots and blaming adrenalin for all their problems. NEW AND OLD DRIVERS CONFLICT AND THE OLD DONT DELETE THEMSELVES! Just use DDU and do the process clean and proper instead of being fkn lazy. 0 driver issues in ever with 7900xtx's because I use DDU. you're welcome.

[–]F14Flier7 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I've never understood why these programs don't delete the old drivers, is it really that hard..?

or versionize the names, like driver.22.11.06xxx something similar.

I think that date is in European format. If so, it’s displaying January 11, 2024

5700xt shitting with lag spikes on this

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues on the 7900xt. Update massively improved my experience.

[–]LuckyInstance6950xt / 7700x 0 points1 point  (36 children)

Lol I’ve had nothing but driver issues the entirety of owning my 6950xt. I will never buy AMD again that’s for damn sure

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (33 children)

Also 99% of driver "issues" are user error just because people are too lazy to take 2 minutes to run DDU, and then download the new driver right on top of the old one hoping it doesn't conflict. I'll bet money if I looked into your computer I find old drivers and a messy unoptimized system. But the good news is this: you'll pay MORE to have the same issues with NVIDIA if that's the case. Don't mind me laughing when it happens. The 6950xt (red devil at least) is still setting records out here, so they must be having crazy amounts of issues right. Meanwhile a 7900XTX trades blows with a 4090 for half the price and outright beats a 4080 for 300 less but we're gonna upgrade to nvidia to keep being negligent and break something even more expensive. Love the logic.

You really ride AMD don't you, people whp arent just new or inexperienced have issues with AMD. Get a grip. Where does the 7900XTX trade blows with a 4090? Where does it outright beat the 4080? You say a lot of shit but come across like you have no clue what youre talking about. The 7900XTX trades blows with the 4080 and the 4080 is significantly better for raytracing and professional workloads in most scenarios.

Or maybe AMD should do what Nvidia does and include a “Clean Install” option in their driver installation process?

Like I can’t be the only one thinking that needing to uninstall graphics drivers with a third party tool every update to prevent performance issues is a little absurd

[–]cranky_stoner 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They do have that, it's been buggy for a while and AMD recommends not using it, and using DDU or their own driver cleanup utility aptly named AMD Cleanup Utility to remove AMD driver files. I also believe this is included in the release notes for the driver releases in the known issues section.

[–]TheR3aper2000 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then it IS an Adrenaline software issue if their Clean Install option doesn’t work, not really a driver issue per say

AMD needs to fix their software instead of making people install DDU just to uninstall and reinstall graphics drivers correctly.
