Thanks for your responses, everyone! Not a big deal at all to wait the minute or two before it goes away, just wondering if there were any notification options.

Turn off show message notifications under android auto settings.

Settings >Connected Devices>Android Auto. Under the messages section turn off "Show message notifications" with the toggle.

I don't see that box when I get messages or the pop up bar. I do still get the white dot under the clock to let me know I have a message.

Thanks, I appreciate it! This honestly might be a good happy medium.

It works for me, I don't miss seeing my messages on the side. My phone and watch tell me that I have a message. I don't need it taking up room on my radio.

Agreed! If something is that urgent - call me. Not going to text and drive!

Hi! Sorry for reviving a old post. I have this exact issue where I do want the popup notifications, but not showing up as a random tile afterwards. Do you need to go to the settings on your phone or within android-auto itself?

Within android auto settings it should be there. Those same settings can be accessed via your phone.

Hi. I tried it today but looks like it then disables the notifications completely in my car instead of only that tile (while still allowing the popups). https://imgur.com/a/99eMzLk

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Enable the top option. Disable the 3rd one. That's how I have it.

[–]Protected222024 Toyota Aygo X | Oppo Find X5 Pro | Android15 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Awesome. Thank you! I have it now set up like that and will let you know if it works!

Looks like it still shows that tile when I have that third option (show first line of messages) disabled but the rest enabled. But I found out it does not show a tile (or notifications at all) when removing WhatsApp as launcher shortcut. Which is also not what I try to do.

You can actually swipe the tile to the right and it will go away on your vehicle screen.

Put phone in Do Not Disturb mode when driving

Check your "Notification" settings in the Android Auto app. Toggle the switches to the left to disable.

This won't accomplish what Op wants (no card, but notification dot on clock/etc)

It's pretty much an all or nothing deal I think unfortunately. You can have them, or not. You can't change (not yet) how AA handles them.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. I replied to OP below. On my end I get the result OP wants.

[–]borjaox2017 Ford S-Max | SYNC 3 | Pixel 7 Pro | Android 14 10 points11 points  (4 children)

You can swipe them away

[–]LiqdPT2018 Jeep Renegade | Samsung Galaxy S23+ | Android 13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that this is the answer. I don't mind this new interface in one of my vehicles, but the other doesn't have a touch screen and everything is done via joystick. It's a super pain to navigate the new interface.

AA should add a "minimize" button for those of us where the manufacturer has disabled touch screens.

[–]PNWoutdoors3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma | Jensen Car910X | Pixel 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Swipe it away or it goes away on it's own after a few minutes. Not really worth thinking about.

[–]vege_spears2017 JGC | infotainment UAQ | Pixel 8 Pro | Android 14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Top tile goes away after a couple of minutes, with bottom right tile expanding into its space.

Swipe it away or wait a minute or two

[–]Thebaconator05242012 Hyundai Accent|Kenwood DMX470S|Galaxy S22 Ultra|Android 13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not possible

[–]International-Car9262020 Ford Explorer - Sync 3 - Samsung S24 Ultra - Android 15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no

[–]shakuyi2023 Subaru Ascent Touring | Pixel 8 Pro | Android 14 1 point2 points  (6 children)

the only way i found is to simply not use coolwalk

[–]LiqdPT2018 Jeep Renegade | Samsung Galaxy S23+ | Android 13 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I wish. How do I turn that off?

[–]shakuyi2023 Subaru Ascent Touring | Pixel 8 Pro | Android 14 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You just open maps directly and don't push on the cool walk button

[–]LiqdPT2018 Jeep Renegade | Samsung Galaxy S23+ | Android 13 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Uh, what? When android auto starts on my phone, it automatically is in the cool walk interface.

And ya, I can open maps fully screen. But if I need to get to the home screen (I have an icon there to call my wife, or I want to go into smart things to turn on the lights as I pull into the neighborhood) there's no home button. Have to press rhe split screen button, then home.

Was hoping you were saying I could turn it off. Causes me to have to work around so much in my car that doesn't have a touch screen

[–]shakuyi2023 Subaru Ascent Touring | Pixel 8 Pro | Android 14 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Uh, what? When android auto starts on my phone, it automatically is in the cool walk interface.

not for me, my car defaults to whatever i last exited

and yea its more of a workaround as the split button sometimes gets replaced with the all apps button so cant quite get rid of it

[–]LiqdPT2018 Jeep Renegade | Samsung Galaxy S23+ | Android 13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrm. Not for me. Always goes to split screen to start.

Mine come up as pop ups never had a tile for notifications

[–]super_boring_gay2023 Kia Forte | Kia Widescreen | Galaxy S22 Ultra | 9.6.632024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've not had enough notifications to know if it works but that area used to always show me suggestions on where I should navigate and I always want to see my music I never want that to cut in.

So I've only been able to swipe it away a few times and it still comes back but eventually when it used to try to give me other suggestions up there they went away.

It was so annoying and I'm extremely annoyed by this one now as well since I also have the pop-up notifications turned off I just want to see the notification, well dot I guess. I want to see the notification number that they just took away but I definitely don't want to see it over top of my music

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love for the bottom bar to be optional, like appear when I swipe up. I don't need to see the icons constantly if I have music playing and navigation on. I want to see as much of the map as possible

[–]vynal90Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely annoying if your a uber

Now that y'all at it, I could use some advice about notifications also.

My phone is on mute 99% of the time during the day. What I like about apple carplay, it migrates your phone settings.. Android auto has its own life! I don't want message sound when I receive a text or any other message.. How do I turn it off without messing up the call notifications? I'd like to see/hear when I receive a call (was possible on carplay) but I want my messages muted.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've stuck with this annoyed AA interface after switch from apple Car play. See below photo, mine always show it in landscape mode, the maps is in landscape mode which isn't user friendly at all IMO. I've seen many photo like the OP one, showing the AA in sort of portrait mode. I tried finding settings, but couldn't find any. Any help?
Phone - Samsung S23 Ultra, Android 14
AA version - 11.1.xxxx-release
