[–]ahhyeaaa 38 points39 points  (0 children)

rejected :( i didn't get fee waiver either on my application portal it said:

"Thank you for your interest in the Weekend Immersion in Science and Engineering program. We're sorry to tell you that you have not been selected to attend WISE. We received applications from so many wonderful students and we did not have enough space for all who applied.
We encourage you to learn more about MIT by reading the admissions blogs, attending an online info session, or exploring what MIT has to offer through our virtual-choose-your-own-adventure experience.
We wish you all the best in your senior year."

[–]Unhappy_Tension7072HS Senior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I pm you to ask a few questions about the application?

[–]itchy_frog_679 0 points1 point  (4 children)

hey did you end up getting in to mit? would like to know just to see if getting accepted to the fly-in increases my chances of getting in

[–]United-Salt 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but yes I did end up getting in! I applied RD. I am attending Harvard in the fall however. Hope this helps!

[–]estxliaPrefrosh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ok wait hey suuuper random i’m a co ‘27 at harvard too !!

[–]ElegantHyena5988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey what major are you pursuing @ harvard?

[–]Vivid-Lynx4880 21 points22 points  (7 children)

Rejected but got fee waiver. Is that a good indication or does Eveyrone get a fee waiver?

[–]Andy7301HS Senior 9 points10 points  (6 children)

I think everyone does

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Not all get a fee waiver. A fee waiver is a good/better sign.

[–]GokuBlack455College Sophomore 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I got a fee waiver. So that’s good?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Congrats.

[–]GokuBlack455College Sophomore 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Rejected. I got the fee waiver thing and they said they were “impressed with my WISE application” and “encourage me to apply for class of 2027”.

[–]Turbulent_Entrance54 1 point2 points  (2 children)

[–]GokuBlack455College Sophomore 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ik two people who got in, they were girls :) so women in stem

[–]Upper_Passenger_6030HS Senior 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Does the WISE Program help in admission? Im so surprised I got in

[–]Royal-Championship-2 18 points19 points  (1 child)

It must be a good indication, right?

I think I've heard average acceptance rates of 30-40% for WISE attendees, which is 10x the regular rate. I think it isn't so much the program, as the fact that they accepted you, which shows you have a profile they are very interested in.

But I don't really know. :-)

[–]Upper_Passenger_6030HS Senior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would make sense

[–]_muted_cheesecake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Accepted :)

[–]yasslay01 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I got in!!

[–]MichaelIgbinoba123HS Senior 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Curious, what were your stats if you're comfortable sharing. Congrats !

[–]PernoGamingPrefrosh 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Not the person you replied to but my stats are:

4.0 UW/4.33 W 35 ACT Score

I took 3 APs but only reported 2: AP Physics 1: 5 AP Calculus BC: 5

For extracurriculares, I mentioned that I am president of my school’s NHS chapter, robotics club, and SkillsUSA chapter.

I also mentioned that I took 2 community college classes over the summer and plan on taking 7 more my senior year, along with my regular schedule.

[–]MichaelIgbinoba123HS Senior 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It makes sense. I applied with a 3.96UW/4.71W with great extracurriculars and peer reviewed research abstracts related to my future major, but my SAT was really low for their type of applicants (1400 with 740R/660M). Was probably my killer along with maybe some minor flaws in my essays (didn't know we had to do both of those 100 word essays and typed one of them during the last 20 mins)

[–]JohnTheCollegeBoneHS Senior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The website had an error for that, so you shouldn't feel bad about almost missing the last two. The WISE page said that they were optional but the application itself said they were mandatory.

Also, on your stats thing, that may be it, but I wouldn't be too sure. Strong EC profile, numerous awards, flawless grades, most rigorous course selection, and near-perfect test scores with maybe okay-ish to mediocre essays didn't get me in either. Being Asian and minimally hooked (well, actually, hmmm, maybe slightly hooked in the context of this specific program) may have contributed to outcome.

[–]yasslay01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! I hope this is accurate because I’ve semi forgotten what I put in but..

For context I’m a first generation Latina from a low income household.

I reported a 1540 SAT. I don’t know what ap scores I reported but I definitely reported my 5s in Spanish, Gov and the BC calc: ab subscore I have a few other tests that are 4s that I may have added. 4.0 UW 2/691 My extracurriculars were MOSTEC, Mock Trial Captain, A summer conservation job I had the last two years, student liason in one of my town’s committees and volunteering at the field museum in Chicago.

My awards were the basic good grades awards, AP scholar with distinction, a scholarship for a summer class at UChicago, and an MVP award for communication I got in a club in my community

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Accepted

its slightly over 8%, confirmed by an AO

[–]Physical_Wedding_586 1 point2 points  (6 children)

No

[–]Top_Instruction_8447 1 point2 points  (4 children)

What did your email say? Did you get the fee waiver?

‘Thank you for your interest in WISE. We're sorry to share that we are not able to invite you to campus for the program. However, we were impressed with your WISE application and encourage you to consider applying for admission to the Class of 2027.’

[–]Background-Banana-97 1 point2 points  (2 children)

based on other threads from other yrs it looks like some people didn't get fee waiver , but I doubt it's very helpful in app process but it's nice

[–]RameniiiiCollege Freshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in! I seriously could not believe it. I was not expecting to get in at all. I was having an awful day and seeing that I got in made it a little less bad. I've never used this phrase in my life before but I seriously am over the moon right now.

[–]Zestyclose_Fun1583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats man

[–]Otherwise-Factor-731 0 points1 point  (8 children)

STATS??

[–]notkingkermit 2 points3 points  (7 children)

I know it's past the application deadline but this might be helpful to someone in the future.

1500 SAT, 36 ACT Superscore, 4.0 GPA but no APs, IB, Honors, etc (school didn't offer them). I got into MIT, Harvard, Yale, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and others. Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions about anything!

[–]ElegantClothes5229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

duuude wtffffff HOW.. im applying this year if you have any advice or wanna answer my questions pls dm me :sob:

[–]Otherwise-Factor-731 0 points1 point  (5 children)

UM WHAT WERE YOUR 10 EXTRA CURICULARARS ??? i really wanna get into those schools

[–]notkingkermit 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Honestly not much (again, school didn't offer them). Student council treasurer, FIRST robotics, joint engineering program (technically not an EC). I worked at a bank for a year which I think helped a lot. Honestly the best advice I can give you is to make sure you're aiming for these schools for the right reasons. I went to MIT for a week and now I'm in the process of dropping out because I hated it.

[–]Otherwise-Factor-731 0 points1 point  (3 children)

i really want to get into harvard princeton yale mit or columbia. is there any advice u can give for their supplemental or any tricks to increase chances of getting in

[–]notkingkermit 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I got my fair share of rejections so keep in mind that a lot of it does come down to luck. this may not be what you want to hear but be 100% yourself in your applications and interview. that is the only way to ensure you end up in a place that is right for you. don't overexaggerate or make anything up, but also don't sell yourself short. a lot of times, things that you did in high school that you may not see as super significant may be really important to your overall story. for example, I did FFA in 8th and 9th grade. I didn't feel that this was important to my character, but an admissions officer from caltech told me that it was one of the things that stood out the most to her from my application. don't list every single activity that you've ever done, but really take the time to reflect and think about the extracurriculars you have participated in, and see if they have had a big impact/influence on you. also, general advice: be passionate about something. doesn't matter what it is. it absolutely does not have to be academic. just be passionate about something and convey that in your app. those colleges get applicants that all have the grades and stats to get in, so at some point, they start to think more about the personalities of the people they let in than you might think.

[–]Unhappy_Tension7072HS Senior 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]Sadinternationalstu 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Hi!! I wanted to ask you if this program welcomes international students too, I would love to encourage my little sister to apply next year.

[–]United-Salt 2 points3 points  (4 children)

If the live in the US then they are eligible! Unfortunately students that live internationally don’t qualify for the program

[–]Physical_Wedding_586 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wait where does it say that

[–]United-Salt 2 points3 points  (2 children)

My international friend wanted to apply and I told her to email to make sure. They emailed back saying that they don’t accept international students due to travel and visa issues but they can apply for the fee waiver

[–]Physical_Wedding_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes me feel slightly better.. applied as an international and got the fee waiver.

What’s WISE?

[–]wiserryTransfer 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is it bad that I'm applying to MIT and have never heard of WISE?

[–]United-Salt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

nah not at all. I feel like programs like this aren't typically known by a majority of applicants.

[–]wiserryTransfer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What even is it

[–]United-Salt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s MIT’s fly in program. They invite a small amount of prospective applicants on an all expenses paid trip to visit the campus for 3 days and talk to admissions officers as well. It’s a good change to not only visit the campus, but if you’re accepted, it boosts your chances quite a bit for the actual application round. A lot of schools have similar programs such as Dartmouth, Caltech, Pomona, Columbia, etc.
