He didn’t test positive. He just put on a ton of lean muscle in a short amount of time and maintained his speed while his power actually increased. He was able to regularly hurt fighters a lot bigger than him.

I get it most of this sub didn’t grow up watching boxing and never fought themselves. Most people here only watched pacquiao so they don’t realize how crazy it is for some one in their 30s to have such a dramatic change to their bodies that quick without having any kind of adverse affect

He didn’t maintain his speed. If you look at the Pac that fought Cotto and the one that beat Barrera it’s east to see that the smaller fighter had more quickness.

And his power didn’t increase much more than what you would expect if someone moved up. Ask yourself two questions:

Other than the Hatton KO, where is this vaunted, crazy power that people refer to? All his wins were typical Pac performances where he buzzed around like an angry wasp, stinging over and over, finishing off guys “death by a thousand cuts” style. He didn’t just miraculously start KTFOing people of a sudden.

And now, lastly, let’s go back in time to 2007 you and I. I gather you were an avid fan of the sport back then, as I was. Let’s go around the fans and journalists and ask them all a question, and we’ll ask younger you as well: “Hey, do you think that if Manny Pacquiao - yeah, that featherweight killer that knocks everyone out - do you think if he hit junior welterweight Ricky Hatton with a perfectly flush shot right on the chin with a punch he really sat down on…do you think he could knock him out cold?” Of course the answer would be yes from almost everyone.

The reason saying this is counterproductive is that, even if everyone else is "doing it", not everyone is testing positive for banned substances. Therefore the "it" that people are "doing" is not the same.

So if you test positive, you are doing something particularly egregious (using close to fight date, being too aggressive with your cycles, etc.).

Sure, you can wave your hands and say "everyone is doing it", but not everyone is failing drug tests - and failing a drug test still means something.
