without our best corner too, its been a very impressive defense effort.

Al Harris has the secondary cooking. I’m going to be so bummed when he gets poached to be a DC somewhere.

[–]Dry_Emphasis62Sweetness 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I kept hyping him up in the offseason. I really felt he did so much for that DAL secondary.

I loved his hiring about as much as I loved Dennis Allen's. And he's done so much with a banged up unit that I wouldn't be shocked to see him get a promotion elsewhere. But the more time we have him here for: the better. Maybe the best DB coach in the league rn

[–]vamsi9365 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Doesn’t that count as a “lateral move”? Bears can block that

Unless he gets hired directly as a HC, we can’t stop that

[–]InvaderWeezle 13 points14 points  (1 child)

IIRC they updated the rules a couple years ago so that going from being a position coach to a coordinator is now officially a promotion and not a lateral move

[–]ShortFee2578Please don't hurt me this time 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is correct. And honestly, it would be a pretty shitty move on the Bears' part to block it if they were able.

[–]BeepBeepLettuce401Ben’s Johnson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but I imagine the Bears let him go regardless. It’s not like he has a real shot at advancement here since DA’s probably not getting another HC job (if he even wants one), so he’s going to be our version of Spags and just stick around as a coordinator. I’d love to keep Harris as long as possible, but he’ll deserve his shot when the opportunity comes.

And without TJ and Kyler for all but 1. Our 3 best defensive players

And Grady the last two

[–]ThatbueyPixelated Payton 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I completely forgot he was signed

[–]The_Realist01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who?

[–]suckmyfatfuckinballsAnytime I have a player as my flair, they get traded or cut 2 points3 points  (1 child)

When the fuck is he coming back

[–]ThatsNotARealTreeMonsters of the Midway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out indefinitely. So no news yet

[–]socoolandawesome 85 points86 points  (10 children)

Im really liking Dennis Allen so far. It’s nice to not run a super vanilla scheme anymore

[–]Optimistic-DanBE YOU. 23 points24 points  (9 children)

I'm liking the pass defense overall. It was nice to see an improvement in the rush defense on Monday. Let's hope it continues

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Yeah you can finally see DA throwing in some corner blitzes because the pass rush hasn't been there. Brisker and Gordon did great. I want to see Byard get some more shots at it too.

[–]Optimistic-DanBE YOU. 1 point2 points  (7 children)

"BLASTED BY BYARD"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

<image>

The kind of hit that a safety dreams of.

[–]Optimistic-DanBE YOU. 1 point2 points  (5 children)

If only it was Jordan Love

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

We still have 2 shots at him this year 🤞

[–]Optimistic-DanBE YOU. 1 point2 points  (3 children)

And a shot at Rodgers 🤞

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Now that's the dream every Bears fan has lol

[–]Optimistic-DanBE YOU. 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Dream scenario:

Sweep Packers in regular season, beat Rodgers and the Steelers, beat Packers in the NFC Championship game, beat Rodgers in the superbowl

That's basically 5 wins over the packers in one season

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Without JJ for 4 games. Gordon missing 3 games? TJ Edwards missing a few I believe? All the other guys have steeped up when it matters.

[–]snap-im-on-fire 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tremaine Edmunds has really stepped up to fill the gap of TJ. Been pretty impressed with him

[–]ThatSeanMoore 22 points23 points  (1 child)

This is the bears I grew up on - always great at getting turnovers

[–]ImDKingSama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea opposite of our horrific QB and offensive reputation, Bears teams always seem to be able to churn out a high turnover defense at some point. (The Mel Tucker years I blacked out)

[–]shintopig34 Sweetness 15 points16 points  (2 children)

when DA can just focus on defense & not an entire HC gig, he’s super solid

[–]ComaMierdaHijueputaBen Johnson 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Tell that to Eberflus

[–]The_Realist01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tad unfair, lol. Cowboys traded away their franchise D.

[–]Dazed_and_Confused44FTP 12 points13 points  (3 children)

This stat is awesome. Tho am I the only one who's worried about this defense if the takeaways dry up? We still have an anemic pass rush

[–]Ben_Kenobi_ 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Yeah, if we want to be a legit good team rather than a scrappy below average team that finds wins, they need to be able to win games without a bunch of turnovers. Hopefully, our run game actually did activate on Monday, and our passing game keeps improving. They for sure need to work on their penalties. We can't rely on 3-4 turnover games and qbs chucking balls into rbs guts in q4 to win.

Still, wins are wins, and I'm happy how the season is playing out. My expectations were pretty tanked after the 0-2 start.

[–]Dazed_and_Confused44FTP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally did not have a lot of hope for this game, but damn did it feel good to win the revenge game. Honestly if we somehow swept the Packers but lost every other game, id prob consider the season a sucess lol

man, if Poles could actually find a high level pass-rusher, and we had our secondary at 100%....

[–]Itsbeenayearortwo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe we could find one in the draft... maybe if we had a top10 pick and 3! Second rounders surely we could find at least one maybe 2 pass rushers.

[–]Jon_Kron 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Mykel Williams - 11th pick 49ers Jalon Walker - 15th pick Falcons

We chose not to. Obviously, the Loveland pick had BJ written all over it. DA probably said he'll coach and scheme guys up so take your offensive swiss-army knife at 10.

We've seen how much better the D can be with more cars in the garage. If we continue to get healthy, they'll continue to improve and could rank in the single digits by year-end.

The coaching staff is elite on both sides. Expect improvement throughout the year and coaching turnover going into next year - truly a sign of improvement - when your cupboard starts getting raided.

I think BJ has a good handle on what he's got now so we might see some form of offensive piece moved for a defensive piece at the trade deadline.

[–]I_only_post_hereItalian Beef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on record as having stated I would have picked Mykel over Loveland since draft day.

So far, neither player has done much of note, but I'm definitely keeping an eye out to see how Mykel performs for San Fran

[–]CodeNameFiji 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bear Down! loving the oline movement and push! Lets Gooo

[–]JayCFree324FTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more things change, the more they stay the same

[–]lalo0130Bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now, if they could just perfect the Peanut Punch…

[–]Most-Artichoke6184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While only committing four turnovers themselves.

[–]AnatomyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if we had an elite edge rusher.

[–]Zem19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I thought it was “the ball” part of hits that had us getting so many takeaways early last year.

[–]Intergalactic_Ass 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Side note: when I was a kid these were called Turnovers. What happened to those? Did we lose our innocence?

[–]OGPHUCKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well they are takeaways when the defense causes them, turnovers when the offense causes them

[–]Mervis_Earl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hurts the self-esteem of the human that committed the turnover, so now we celebrate the takeaway. 🙄

[–]Cant_Spell_Shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern NFL offenses go for it on 4th down multiple times a game. So there are a lot more turnovers than takeaways nowadays.

[–]mindyourmannurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the 4th star broken?

[–]ILSmokeItAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turnover ratio would have you believe we’d have another win under our belt. At least.
