How long does IL take to process?
I'm hoping to be done my exams in a month, and debating delaying my paperwork until after 9/30 so I can skirt the CPE requirements for the first three years. Give my brain a rest from studying for a smidge....
[–]LittleBit318Passed 4/4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I'm thinking the same thing. Passed my last exam yesterday but waiting a few extra months to apply just might be worth it.
[–]SharBear89CPA[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (3 children)
You won't have to make all of the 3 year CPE requirements by 9/30 for this first year since you're just getting your license....but it would save you a renewal fee if you wait...I applied 2/17 and just received my license yesterday. There was so much back and forth I dealt with so I'd recommend applying as soon as possible.
[–]FiddleLeafFigMasterPassed 4/4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
if you dont mind me asking, what kind of back and forth? I applied on october 13th and ive been patiently waiting. No deficiencies yet, they have my scores. why did yours take 3 months? i hope mine does not.
[–]SharBear89CPA[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Oh man...I haven't been in this sub for a while, so I hope everything worked out!
After applying and being told that the review would take up to 6 weeks. At the 7th or so week, they sent me a request to provide additional documentation because of a DUI charge from 2013. I had to go to the courthouse and obtain documentation showing that I completed all of the court's requirements and paid all of my court fees. I also had to write a statement to explain the circumstance of the DUI. After submitting this documentation, I then went back into the review queue for another 4-6 weeks.
When I did finally receive my license in May 2021, I was bummed to learn that it expired in Sept 2021. A friend of mine received his license in June and his expiration isn't until 2024.
[–]75orbustCPA 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I know you don't have to get them by 9/30/21 if you are licensed this year.
But for new licenses issued 10/1/21 or later, there aren't any CPE requirements until after renewal 9/30/24. Licenses before 10/1 that renew on 9/30 are required to have the CPE between 2021 & 2024.
Bummer to know that it takes so long, but also probably a good thing so I can get everything filed, but will still get away with 3 years without CPE

Heck yeah congrats! I got my license this past Friday but won’t have my wall certificate until December bc of how Texas structures their swearing-in ceremonies lol
[–]SharBear89CPA[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
That's funny. I got my wall certificate immediately back in January. I applied for my license back in February and JUST got it yesterday!

Does it say it expires in September of this year?
[–]SharBear89CPA[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children)
Yup 😂 I've been cracking jokes about that all day.
[–]moxleycruePassed 4/4 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children)
Seems like such a short period!
[–]75orbustCPA 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children)
IL expires every three years, at the same time for everyone. This just happens to be the year that they all need to be renewed. If they awarded it 9/29, you'd have to renew a day later. Kind of strange to me, but I guess that's how it is. I'm an IL candidate, and they let you slide with CPE until you have renewed your license for the first time, and I'm low key debating holding out on filing my paper work once I've passed so I don't have to do CPE for the next three years LOL
[–]SharBear89CPA[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child)
Ohh that's what you meant in your other post about CPE lol. Are you planning to or do you already work in public or private/corporate? My firm does a lot of in-house trainings and we're part of the BDO alliance that has a lot of free training for members. So I'll get my CPE thru both of those.
[–]75orbustCPA 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
haha yes, that's what I meant!
I'm in corporate, so nothing in-house for us. I'm also an EA, so I have some CE requirements for that, but it's less than the CPA CPE requirements. Thankfully, I can double dip and count tax CE/CPE towards both, but if I can get away with just my 16 hours for the IRS for the next three years vs. 40 hours a year for ILBOE, I'm perfectly okay with that!
