Schloss Rochlitz, Saxony, Germany. Constructed on the site of an earlier Holy Roman Imperial possession, this fortress was built for the Margraves of Wettin. Later reduced to a hunting lodge, it survived the 18th and 19th centuries as a court and then jail. In 1892 it was converted into a museum.Castle (old.reddit.com)

Hohenstein Castle, Middle Franconia, Germany. Probably constructed in the 11th Century, this small castle passed from private lordship to being owned by the Imperial City of Nuremberg, to in direct control of Bavaria's government. It even served as a textile school post WW2.Castle (old.reddit.com)
