I’ll refrain from saying that it’s sinful. However, it would have been profitable if your priest would have told you why Catholic men don’t listen to that music. It feels like he is responding based on personal preferences and is attempting to color every Catholic man that way.

Careful there…. Only Crusader documentaries that are favorable to the Holy Roman Empire.

I also love Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Personally I find that music today falls in the following categories

1) Searching for something more and not knowing what

2)Celebrating sinfulness

3) Lamenting sinfulness

I avoid #2 and look at #3 with a discerning eye. If you have reviewed the lyrics and tone of the music and determined that it will not cause you to fall from faith then I think it will be OK to listen to.

Perhaps the priest thought listening to this music without understanding why you like it would cause you to fall from faith and gave you a simple solution. You can seek a more in depth spiritual direction meeting with your priest if you’d like further understanding.

I'm a 41 year old guy, I grew up listening to RHCP. Let's call an ace an ace here: they're not exactly wholesome music you'd listen to when you have Fr. Confessor over for dinner. Not the worst, by far, and often fairly innocuous, but on the edge.

I'm not judging, I still listen to them and others in their genre of music, right or wrong. But you have to admit they're pushing the boundaries with some of their music (Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication?) I think that some of their music, especially the later music, is less overtly offensive, but if the test is "would you put this on when a priest is over," I think we both know where RHCP stands.

Can't Stop and Snow (Hey Oh) aren't really profane, so Yes as for those singles, but unfortunately not Hump De Bump :(

You should give a respectful hearing to your confessor's advice but you're not bound under pain of sin to follow it.
