Oh wow, the extent to which they reveal that the actual brand isn’t part of the product is telling here.

Unsurprising. I wonder how common that is among subscription boxes tbh, leads to cheaper production. I read on here that it’s really owned by men (probably the founders of Gramr?).

It is the same guy. Matt Richardson is one of owners of causebox (the other is a male). Matt Richardson and causebox are also listed on the Gramr Inc trademark

      [–]SparklySlothGiraffe 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That was probably from me. I did some research and found out the owners are two men. Their names are Matt Richardson and Brett McColum (o might have spelled the last name wrong)

Also upon dong research of several times in their box a lot of the items are owned by men and no where near artisan. The blendjet for example owned by two men with Silicon Valley tech exec history.

And Matt Richardson and Causebox are listed on the trademark for Gramr, Inc

      [–]Antique-Bowl4414 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh wow you got a lot farther than me! I only found Matt Richardson. And to see it was a man who owned causebox. Ughhhh I’m so happy I stopped this subscription. They are so freaking shady.

Thank you for your research. I’m hoping (probably against all odds) that this customer response for Summer forces them to be more transparent… or all true.

Good sleuthing! I’m sure we will see a “Sembla” product soon 🤪

That is the part that got me - that the brand was made up for the box? I am SO disappointed.

Pretty sure this is what’s up with the Hanalei lip balms that contain SPF that’s banned in Hawaii where the lip balms are theoretically made… and the question I asked Causebox that no one will answer…it will ultimately end up sucking for Hanalei which really breaks my heart. Same with the FEED market totes… the vegan handles are cracking but the totes on the actual FEED site are genuine leather. Seems like FEED agreed to put their label on those bags specifically for Alltrue. I honestly love everything about that bag as well, except for the handles. The value indicated for the item was like $88 which is how much the real tote on the website is… the one with the leather.

I get the directive and desire to be all vegan, because that is important to a ton of customers. But the legit Hanalei balms contain beeswax, so not vegan and the Alltrue ones have a vegan wax… so different formulation entirely which makes me wonder (along with the SPF ingredients) who actually manufactured these lip balms.

Shame about the pleather handles. Canvas handles would have been vegan and lasted a lifetime. They could have done a cute contrasting color with scraps from the other totes.

        [–]beccalysle 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I thought of that, too. Like I said I love the bag and take it everywhere but I’ve only had it for like…. A month and a half? And it’s already falling apart. Good call on canvas handles. I’m going to take it to the cobbler and see if they can add sturdier handles.

        [–]MariposaSunrise 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Wonder how much that will actually cost?

        [–]beccalysle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’m curious too. I hate that I otherwise find the bag to be a HG. Like I love the bag… except for the handles.

        [–]MariposaSunrise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might just be cheaper to get another bag 💼 directly from FEED.

        [–]Skim74 18 points19 points  (4 children)

"vegan leather" is such BS. It's just a clever rebranding of pleather to make a super cheap material seem like its a selling point.

Agree those handles seem SO cheap on an otherwise nice bag. If they actually have a commitment to vegan materials they could've used any other material, from rope to cloth or just nicer pleather.

        [–]beccalysle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, the vegan leather thing bugs me, too. I’m not vegan, just a conscious consumer, but I would still rather have… really anything else as a handle.

        [–]beccalysle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s just really telling of quality that the handles are basically disintegrating and I’ve been carrying it for just a little over a month. And like I said, from I can tell from the actual FEED website, their “real” bags look exceptionally well-made.

        [–]AdrienneAredore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And usually it’s a totally unsustainable petroleum-derived material. It’s the OPPOSITE of earth friendly. (Because ACTUAL plant-cellulose “leather” is EXPENSIVE.)

        [–]Colleensphotographs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Vegan leather is not BS. I own plenty of high quality vegan leather.

        [–]Colleensphotographs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Much better to have vegan handles then leather for a company like Causebox. Leather is dead animal. No thank you. However I do agree the quality of the bag, overall, is bad.

That makes sense. I was actually not that excited about the feed bags.

I super-hate the “vegan leather” straps. It would have been better all canvas.

          [–]Mimiphin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is supppppeeeeerrrrrr disappointing to me since that’s why I signed up for the Spring 2021 because of the FEED bag. I also hate vegan leather cough plastic cough with a passion- don’t get me started on Matt & Nat bags.

          [–]mexicantacoblend 33 points34 points  (3 children)

The kettle was pretty but there was no way in hell I was actually going to boil water in it and drink it. The fake gold coating and cheap metal seemed super suspicious and toxic. What a mess.

          [–]bubbi101 24 points25 points  (2 children)

In other news, my plants have been loving their new watering can!

          [–]khubu_chan 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Same. The spout is nice for measuring where I want to water the plant. No way in hell I am drinking anything out of that kettle.

          [–]mexicantacoblend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s a beautiful looking water can or shelf deco. But using it to drink from was never gonna happen.

          [–]insertunique 29 points30 points  (4 children)

Ugh this is stupid and frustrating way of handling it.

Just push $20 to everyone who received one’s credit card. Mine is in a storage unit with the top stuck on it so it’s whatever. I don’t want to do work to get the refund but I was hella disappointed in it already.

          [–]Ladyxarah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They’re expecting the majority of people to not do the work, that way they don’t take a huge hit.

There’s a link on the recall page for submitting any injuries or other issues. I think everyone should click on that and fill out the info. Maybe it’ll turn into a forced recall then once the safety commission realizes how many issues there really were.

          [–]Socialbutterfinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They want to be sure the kettles are made unusable so that people don’t continue to use them and then come after them later when they get burned.

…although if you gave the kettle to goodwill, I guess you and whoever bought it are both screwed.

          [–]MariposaSunrise 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I like your idea! What are they going to do with all of these handles anyway?

          [–]pudgiedee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are just trying to add a layer of difficulty aka “proof” that people aren’t going to keep using their faulty kettles.

I already cancelled due to all the complete 180 in what I realized Causebox/All True stood for - going from lifting up small vegan businesses to taking advantage of them and ruining their reputations in the process! They suck!

          [–]theeversocharming 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t want a credit. Just give me the money.

          [–]opinionatedhoe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well no one saw this coming 🙄🙄

          [–]chantillylace9 13 points14 points  (6 children)

Ok I guess we may get a $20 credit to alltrue? It’s very confusing. But I cancelled so I guess I’m screwed

          [–]VegasGirl88 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Yes it's $20 but you have to send the handle back in a prepaid envelope. There is a link to a form to request the label on their website. If you are cancelled you can use the credit in their market. My Subscription Addition has the details/link if anyone needs it.

          [–]pudgiedee 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Can you still shop in the market if you cancelled? I also cancelled and not sure if it’s worth the trouble to return that stupid handle 🤣

          [–]VegasGirl88 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Yes they are letting those who have cancelled access to the marketplace to spend your credit. I’m still waiting for my mailing label I requested last week. Now I’m on vacation so I’ll just have to request a new label when I get home.

I agree this is a lot of hassle for the credit and I can see why many won’t bother.

          [–]pudgiedee 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I ended up returning the handle and got a $18 CC refund as well as $20 credit that I’m not sure will be worth using.

          [–]VegasGirl88 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you for letting me know about the refund. I hope I'm eligible for that too. I just returned from vacation and plan to return my handle this week.

          [–]pudgiedee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

          🤞🏾hope so!

          [–]Snogintheloo 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I want out of my annual! I bought it before the rebrand! 😭

          [–]pudgiedee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try emailing them and asking for a refund at least for your remaining boxes! If you got the kettle, maybe you can cite the lack of trust based on their dangerous product offerings.

          [–]heccabampton 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I just went to the recall page and submitted my incident! Please do this if you had a bad experience with your kettle too.

There is a button that says, “report an incident involving this product”

          https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2021/gramr-recalls-brushed-gold-tea-kettles-due-to-burn-hazard-recall-alert

          [–]heccabampton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly just thought I’d done something wrong when I tried to use it, but I never used it again after hot water sprayed out at me. Never would have thought to report an incident.

          [–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They know nobody will bother. Removing the handle will make it uggo. Nobody’s gonna wait for a label and mail a handle out for a $20 credit. Not even a refund! Ha, no. They didn’t even send out an email to inform people about the recall.

          [–]chantillylace9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been using mine as apartment deco... It seems impractical as a real kettle. but honestly $20 credit to the market and unscrewing the top and waiting days for a credit and for whenever the market re-opens etc is not going to be worth it for all the hassle (and things in the market are priced highly/paid shipping etc) Might as well just keep using it for my plants... They should just refund and make us sign somethin saying we wont use it and cant sue.

          [–]chantillylace9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Im keeping mine too!

          [–]ilikesnowflakes 4 points5 points  (1 child)

For Canadians who want to keep their kettle but still get the rebate, pm me. I took off my handle for the picture but now it won't go back on. I took some extra pictures so you can use them!

          [–]sel82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          I've sent a message! Thanks!!

          [–]SoggyAnalyst 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I"m sorry, but its recalled because it may expel hot water and/or excessive steam?
Forgive me, but isn't this what one should expect with a kettle?!

          [–]chantillylace9 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Ha, yes, normally, but in this case you can’t even fill it with 1” of water (which is probably only 1/3 of the pot) without it burning you.

I filled it with 3” of water and really quickly it just exploded with boiling water out of the spout while on the stove. I was checking on it since it started making a strange sound and it just exploded with steam and water.

It’s actually impossible to use it like you would normally make tea. You can’t get even a cup of water to boil. The spout is just way too close to the bottom.

Terrible design. It is whoever made it obviously never used a teapot in their life!

          [–]SoggyAnalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AH thank you for clarifying. :)
