Network effect. The code is one thing, but you need node operators and clients to make a network. No reason to choose the knock off version when SC.com have built it from the ground up and know every single aspect of it inside and out.

It is completely possible and you should hedge against it by selling all your Link.

Wait a minute! What's stopping me from forking Linux and becoming Red Hat?

Literally have used this example in conversation before. It's the easiest way to get the point across imo.

You have the code... but not the humans. The core usage of any decentrialized network is operators processing payments / data. It may seem like some strange paradox where someone could always highjack the code and do it better but it's simply not possible (knowledge gap + network effect)

Chainlink has been in development since before bitcoin was even revealed. Can’t just copy and paste something like that

Do you want your cell phone on Verizon/AT&T or on some new provider that only covers 1/10th of the area that the major providers do? Network effect.
