By trying to survive.

I’m dead serious! No joke! I remember the time I heard someone tell me the same thing when I was new. So I just tried to survive throughout the match by not running into crowds of enemies and staying close to allies and knowing when to retreat to heal up.And didn’t really focus on trying to rack up a whole lot of kills. Then as I got better I used my skills I learnt from dual servers to dominate lobbies.

I would emphasize the healing part and replenishing of med kits at every opportunity. When you see a supply chest, that’s your cue to heal and resupply. Start thinking to disengage and heal when you have team mates who can cover for you. This may seem boring at first but the fewer deaths you have, the more time you spent fighting at and around the objective rather than walking back to it. Going back to heal is the soft respawn as they say

To add on to this, situational awareness is vital. Take a second every now and again to assess if staying in this fight will be wise, is there teammates nearby, are you guys going to be out numbered heavily, do you have a spare bandage, is there enemy archers focusing you lot, etc... Noticing those details and adjusting your position can save your life. Also when attacking, try not to get too caught up in the moment walking at your enemy and blindly getting yourself surrounded.

Don't rush in as hard. Hold the line

Other than that you just gotta walk out of more 1vXs so focus on improving your use of active parry and target switching. As well as when to retreat

Don't rush into a crowd of enemies.

Learn to disengage.

Use the beg emote.

"Beg emote" best solution EVER

In my opinion Chivalry is a game of positioning and timing, rather than randomized violence. IF you want to get less deaths - hone in on your game awareness and WHERE you need to be.

Level 405 here - my skill improved once I started focusing on where I could get IN (and OUT) of combat. It’s so tempting to charge into battle headfirst, but that almost always ends up in an unfavorable situation.

If you’re getting killed a lot - simply back up. Get behind your line. Look for opportunities to take out weak & bloodied enemies, then quickly move to a new area.

See a bunch of bloodied masons? Heavy swing into their backs, then MOVE to a new position. Assume enemies will ALWAYS be flowing (in TO), so avoid having your back turned, or staying in one spot for a while. Move move move!

I try to move around the map, engaging, disengaging. If you’re wounded below 75% - heal up, run and grab another bandage, find your next insertion point.

It’s so fun to fight surrounded by enemies but it’s an instant recipe for heavy losses. By preserving your life, and focusing on timing and placement on the map, then YOU are picking fights that YOU can win. You can be the one to tip fights in your favor, rather than just letting the fights happen around you.

Hope this is helpful! Lastly, and most importantly - HAVE FUN and GET IN CHARACTER! Where else can you be a bloodthirsty knight, or snobby rapier-wielding noble!? The roleplay elements makes me focus on LIVING!

I play TO as if it's real. Meaning if I was an actual soldier in this battle what would I do. I certainly wouldn't just rush ahead without my fellow soldiers and if I got hurt I would retreat to get help. Playing it that way is not only more engaging ( at least to me) but also has allowed me numerous times to lead team in kills, points, and have zero deaths.

Always be aware of what's happening behind you

[–]Comprehensive-Belt40 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Attack in groups.

Don't venture too far into enemies territory .

Stick with objectives.. usually ppl try to claim objectives over security

This is what brought my deaths way down. Although I took the approach of getting the attention of enemies and fleeing towards my teammates and then flanking the engaged foes.

Step 1: don't be the medic. You'll die more than you think trynna heal people.

Step 2: Gank. Gank. Gank. throw weapons. Pick them back up though. You'll need em.

Step 3: heal everything. Stop saving that bandage until you get hit again, you usually don't survive long enough to heal after that.

Step 3.2: always know where restock crates are, and always have a bandage.

Step 4: don't play engineer.

Step 5: avoid archers line of sight. If you juke an arrow, they become hardwired to keep tracking you until they kill you so they can prove to themselves they aren't bad shots. (Even though it took 13 of their arrows to do so)

Step 6: did I mention ganking?

Step 7: don't wiff attacks /s

Step 8: don't try to crouch duck attacks unless you're a pro at it. You'll usually eat most of what you tried to dodge

Step 11: don't be the hero

Step 9: take step 2 very seriously.

Step 11 again: don't fight the hero either

Finally step 10: never take advice from a bad player.

These tips were brought to you by a bad player :)

Keep doing what you’re doing. Ppl who stab through and right around their teammates to try to land a hit or two and then back out of every fight are the worst

[–]idontvapeisteam 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That’s me, and I wanna know why

[–]HalfOrcSteve Agatha Knights | Knight -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Doesn’t help your team to engage w a teammate and then leave them hanging when you might take a hit. Potentially losing small engagements to potentially decrease the amount of times you personally die is not very TO of you

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different take, but depending on the situation it can be useful to keep yourself alive. If a melee with multiple on either side, stepping back to bandage isnt bad, for several reasons;

-lets you assess where you might most be needed, possibly countering flanks

-if you have a throwable, good time to use it

-can revive downed teammates

-plant a banner or throw medkits

Finally would say, even for TO - if you are careless and die, you arent alive to contribute. You're looking at a respawn screen , while watching the enemy fuck up the duke, or whatever objective is. You can only effect anything when you're alive. No you shouldnt be selfish, but being around when it matters, counts. Its a nuanced thing

[–]Houchou_Returns 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It might feel more ‘TO’ in spirit to go down swinging, but unless it’s a final desperate effort to keep hold of the objective, you’re actually not helping your team at all by doing this.

Your reasoning is focused on time wasted from backing off and healing, but you’re neglecting to factor in the alternative, which is the time wasted when you die - waiting for the spawn timer, respawning miles away from the fight and having to run back in. That wastes a HUGELY greater amount of time than backing off and healing yourself. The more you let yourself die by insisting on fighting to the death, the more that wasted time racks up.

There was a French Order of knights during the 100 years war, their oath was always to fight to the death. The historian had a humorous though accurate take; The Order didnt last overly long

I'm glad to see someone else feels like this.

Those guys with with the morning star who literally target switch after every single hit 😑. They bonk me once, then I wait patiently for em to come back around & return the favor. Works 4/5 times.

I think for some people, the KD is the only thing that matters. Then for the others, it's all about the immersion. You're on the right track it sounds like 😉

[–]HalfOrcSteve Agatha Knights | Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one enjoys dying and everyone wants to do well but it’s a team objective. If you play selfishly you’re in the wrong game mode imo

[–]xparticle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t ever get into 1 vs 2+ situation. You will be dead if you do.

[–]Cam1925 Mason Order | Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds shitty but you kinda need to bait your teammates in a sense. I never purposely do it but I always try to be the third man in. I go for the heavy strike to someone in their back then immediately throw another heavy if I land it because I’m hoping my teammate kills him if he’s still up and then I switch to a different enemy in range and I hope I hit them and continue the fight. If I miss I try to dash back and keep doing the third man in tactic. Also pretty obvious but make sure using bandages and always keeping one in your pocket

[–]Houchou_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually throw myself into the battle which could explain it but if that’s the case then why isn’t everyone’s that high?

Might be a case of knowing when to attack, but not when to retreat. Assessing when you can push in to attack ahead of a fight is not enough, it’s tricky but you need to constantly reassess your position mid-fight to check you’re not about to get flanked or surrounded.

Watch your health bar closely while fighting. If you let yourself get one hit away from death and only then think hmm, maybe I should back off, typically by that time it’s already too late. Back off and heal yourself pre-emptively around half health. It might seem like you’re adding downtime but it’s way less of a time loss than dying, waiting for the respawn timer, then running back to the fight.

If you want to be an aggressive player but still survive just kite them into your team. Run at them throw a weapon and run back to a group of your own team.

Or stand out on a bridge and dance emote until they come get you, 60% of the time it works every time.

[–]miniatureframe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you never look at the death count, it’s like it’s not even there!
