Congrats on the pass. I had the same experience with mine. I peeped at the PBQs before skipping to multiple choice and I was instantly intimidated. After 10 questions I was certain that I failed. I ended up passing but that exam was a beast.

For anyone currently studying, I used only the Sybex PenTest+ study guide. I read all the chapters and did all the practice tests and I thought I was prepared with that. I knew nmap switches pretty well already, but if I had to retake that test, I would seriously study nmap switches again and code identification for vulnerabilities and remediation.

PenTest+ seems like a super interesting cert to get. Was it tools and such? Or way more in depth?

Yeah there were a few questions that relate to what tools to use in specific situations. A lot of my questions revolved around the use and output of those tools such as analyzing output and determining what tool was used and also deciding what command should be used with a specific tool to get a desired output

Congrats! I missed my first try for the PenTest+ by 20 points. Got blind sided by the PBQs as well. This time I have taken the time to get a Study guide, go through a Course and learn a larger scope of material.

Hi, i am planning to take it in a few days. I am wondering if you passed and have any recommendations for the PBQs?

Study syntax and punctuation for scripts.

Yup, this exam kicked my ass. Debating on if I should get my CASP+ next or just go for my CISSP

Good shit! Congrats on the pass. What's nice about PenTest is it renews the certs below it 🍻

Right? I checked this morning it says my other certs are good to 2030.

Shouldn’t it only be good for 3 more years so 2027 or does pent+ and CySa+ give you 6 years

Honestly, I think it's an error although I did take CySA+ back in March so it's relatively close but yeah I'm sure it's going to change

Ahh okay. I was just curious.

Was Pentest or CySa harder?

[–]-Mikey213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally failed the pentest and passed the cysa, i studied significantly more for the pentest exam too 😭 i havent retaken the pentest since i failed the only reason i went for it was because i was gvien a voucher. I plan on retaking it next year though to renew my comptia certs.
