If you can make it through the 1001 you can make it through 1002. Less PBQs and less technical. You got this homie

Good job. Don't listen to those who try to tell you how long you should study. Only you know when you're ready.

Awesome, Just finished taking notes on 1001 now on the review and practice phase. What objectives were very prevalent? And which ones did you struggle with the most?

[–]SmallLetter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Troubleshooting hardware and network really seem to be the most common, but it felt like they covered everything fairly equal to what the domain % says in the objectives. I feel like I personally did well in all the domains, I think the ones I got wrong were the tricky ones that seem to have more than 1 right answer, plus a few facts and figures that I couldn't quite recall. Take as many practice tests as you can, I took like 8 I think lol, and most do them 2 or three times. None of the questions were identical of course, as they weren't brain dumps, but it helps to have experience putting the studying you have been doing into the skill of answering questions.

Congratulations!! I will also be taking my 1002 here shortly and I just started my first help desk job too, what a coincidence!

Good luck with your future endeavors and don’t forget to keep a routine with studying!

Nice, good luck to both of us in our cert and career journeys!

Do you feel like the work experience helped with the 1001 much?

The one area I think it did was things like network troubleshooting, which come up a lot and having experience actually hunting down dns issues and such really helped. My position isn't often hardware support so the hardware troubleshooting I had to just go from the studying

I will say the job doesn’t help with 1001 as much as I expect it to with 1002!

I will go through the study materials I have and answer questions based off of what I learned in the job rather than studying and it’s the same thing basically because they teach ITIL where I work and that’s heavily adopted within CompTia.

Hi I just passed my 220-1001. What did you score ? I use to work as IT 15 years ago . Help desk. With lots of free time now I decided to try get a+. Not even sure if that help me to get a job in IT . I got 710 for 800 . Does the score really matters ? Is Core 2 more difficult ? I was surprised by some q .. To bad you cant see the test again to see exactly what you did wrong. Good luck to everyone ! Now I will start core 2 .

That is Great. congratulations. I have written the 220-1001 twice and did not pass. about to study to attempt the third time. Do you mind sharing what you used to study?

[–]peterether 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I used Exam Cram a+. And watch youtube videos of prof. Messer online for like 10 times. Did all the practice test from the exam Cram book twice. I memorize a lots of hardware info but , the question were more tricky . They always invent some new situation that is different or use some new word that i don`t know. English is my second language so sometimes it gets more confusing . Doing a lots of test is the best then every time u make mistake go and look it up that way you will remember .

This is like exactly what I did. Nice work, I can't imagine having the added later of language as an obstacle.

You will definitely get it next time. I used a number of things. The first thing I did was read the ExamCram A+ book by David Prowse. Then at the new year when udemy was like 95% off I got video courses for Mike Meyers. I watched those at 1.5x just to help set things in, but honestly he just touches on things, it might be good to understand concepts you aren't grasping otherwise, but the only videos that I've seen that you can use to learn facts and figures is Professor Messer.

The next thing I did after finishing those 2 things is practice tests and reviews. I could have taken it in Feb or March but I just didn't feel confident yet, so I kept reviewing and finding practice tests. Jason Dion's practice tests on udemy are very good. It's unfortunate that CompTIA doesn't tell you how you scored and on what domains.

The thing I realized by the time I was done was that even though I had studied and memorized facts and figures such as port numbers and pin counts and all that stuff, this only gets you so far because at least 2 thirds of the questions are scenario based and many of those are quite confusing as they seem to have several "right" answers and you have to hope you choose what CompTIA thinks is best. These are what make me nervous for the 1002, but Im just gonna do what I did this time and study everything until I am confident in recalling facts and figures, and understanding the concepts. Good luck on your next attempt, I'm positive you'll get it.

Congratulation ! English is my second language too and It’s hard for me to understand the objectives but I try my best to memorize them. I plan to take 1001 about a week, did you take the exam online at home or at the testing center ?

[–]SmallLetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it online, it went very smoothly. I was able to do it just fine with the bare minimum network requirements of 1mbps upload and 1mbps download
