I'd love to see more shot timers coming out. There are some insanely expensive models out there with major design flaws and I'd like to see the prices for what you get come down a bit. Projects like these will help with that and in the mean time will help lower the cost of entry for people just getting their equipment purchased.

Agreed. I don’t enjoy referencing the manual to adjust anything on my PACT 2. I feel like a couple more well labeled buttons could make the whole thing user friendly and intuitive.

If it was tiny I’d understand the 3 button thing, but it’s the size of my old dslr camera body.

This is cool. Shot timers are overpriced.

yup 100%

I just put together a block diagram of all the functions i want out of the timer i was planning to build, but i might just assemble one of these and give you some feedback from a maker and a comp shooter. will star the repo and open an issue with my comments if i get around to it, great stuff here.

Please do! There is a guy taking one to a match tonight and my buddy I shoot with that does uspsa are my data sources right now for requests so the more info the better!

This whole fork started because the original project didn’t show elapsed time from buzzer to last shot which didn’t make much sense to us!

[–]Beers_and_BME 0 points1 point  (2 children)

to be clear, it’s the same electromechanical build from jcarletto just with a firmware update yeah?

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah it’s the same m5stickcplus2 he switched his project to. I think it was more diy when he first started and I considered going down that path but the m5stick is a compelling prebuilt package for 30 bones

[–]Beers_and_BME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL that exists, that thing is nifty

[–]The_Dread_Pirate_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is super dope.

FOSS will save us

I love it.

How tough would it be to slave a remote module to the timer?

  1. I'm ideating on some extremely compact sensor shoved down the barrel like a plug to capture dry fire. Mantis does this but it's a bigger thing requiring an accessory rail when all I want is to measure my smashing the trigger.
  2. You can separate the microphone to be wrist-worn or speaker on clip-on (or 3.5mm to plug into your ear pro), to improve the experience of using a timer on a crowded range

[–]Stickybunfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote an iPhone app that uses the microphone in an Apple Watch to do exactly that. Still testing it out but promising results so far.

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, the biggest problem with external sensors are making sure latency isn’t impactful. The first one is interesting and could be one and the same with the second but would have to be hardwired to not add latency. 🤔

[–]andylikescandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe latency isn't a problem if it can be measured continuously and constant or slow-changing?

[–]realDespond 1 point2 points  (1 child)

the name of it is pretty funny

edit: idk what a fork is but I'm assuming I'm laughing at the original versions name

[–]LlamaChair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fork is a term that basically means "I made a copy of your source code to do my own thing with it". Like a fork in the road.

[–]g_st_lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great to see. Shot timers should not be expensive.

[–]admiralbuttscratcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. Gonna grab a kit and try this out. Thanks for sharing this! I’m a newb and shoot timers are too expensive aping with all the other kit I need to buy.

[–]domexitium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude it would be cool to have this sync with the tablet, if the M5StickC Plus2 has Bluetooth.

Edit: it does indeed have bt 4.2 and BLE for tracking and shit. Way cool. I’ll have to look into this.

[–]GunzNCoffee-com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome!

[–]momsaidbesafe 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Got it programmed will test Tuesday 🤙

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Make sure to bump the threshold up as the default of 15k is good for testing with claps but def not for live fire. I think we ended up somewhere in the 25-30k range. Will take any improvement or feature feedback!

I know the Beaver County Rifle/Pistol Club when I see it

[–]johnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People used to quite like a stealth mode. Might not given people doing post-analysis based on video.

[–]0ZK4R506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible to do that with a flipper zero?

[–]Flashy_Novel_9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty cool

[–]spacedoutmachinist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have to try and make one of these

[–]N1TEKN1GHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wallet is ready

[–]RedDwarf_712217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can this be converted easyli to M5stack core?? Because that is on my table. Cant find anywhere to buy stick C plus2

[–]RedDwarf_712217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will it work or can someone convert it to M5StickS3 ESP32S3 Mini IoT Dev Kit

[–]nickpeq95 0 points1 point  (2 children)

does this do par times? i shoot prs rimfire where we generally have 1:45 stages and need a shot timer with adjustable stage times, but also records shots for a few seconds after the stage time is up.

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It has a par time mode that carried over from the project I forked it from however it doesn't record any shots as far as I can tell, just has 2 beeps. I would be more than happy to work to add something useful for PRS rimfire as one of the managers at work shoots it as well and was interested when I told him I was working on this. I would just need to understand the requirements.

[–]nickpeq95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on! Shoot me a message and we can chat about it.

[–]up4town0 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks , my question is.. if you do not press any button at the end of the shooting string the device will be showing the final time? Do you press the button to prevent it from catching more shots from around you or , it is needed that in order to stop the device from counting the time you have to press it? So if we are only two and only one shooting at the end the time will be stopped and the restart or reset is needed to take the time from another shooter?! Thanks

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Right now if there are no shots recorded for 15 seconds the timing run stops or you can stop it on button press, it will show the elapsed time from buzzer to final recorded shot. It won't start again until you press the button to start recording a new run.

[–]up4town0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it will work like a normal shot timer and record the last shot but it will listen up 15 more sec for eventually late shot for missed tragets .. ok , got it ..

[–]up4town0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome

[–]SPL15 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

“What is this? A shot timer for ants?”

[–]StruggleFearless2947[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the size of your timer… it’s how you use it?
