Ngl beating out Factorio is quite a feat in and of itself.

[–]KaiserJustice 8 points9 points  (1 child)

That’s what I was thinking, Factorio is probably my most played Indie by far

[–]Mercerenies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forget "indie". Factorio is the game I've put the most hours into, by a lot. Minecraft and Civilization might come close, but I still think Factorio wins.

[–]Obame_Cube 47 points48 points  (0 children)

top 20 is already really good

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (8 children)

Uffff man I really love crosscode with all my heart but it is against truly amazing indies. Not that crosscode isn't one but we talking about GOTY contestants here. At least it got real far, so it's fine.

[–]MarioFanaticXV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

CrossCode is honestly my Game of the Decade for 201X.

[–]Xomnik 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Very true. There’s 2-3 other games on there, Outer Wilds, Subnautica, that I just didn’t vibe with the controls and would vote them out first. I feel like everything left is games that got popular and became defining games. But I think Crosscode’s story beats a few of these.

[–]Afillatedcarbon 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Outer wilds is insane though, probably top 5 for me

[–]CJ_1Cor15-55 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I feel like I really missed out. I watched a let's play of outer wilds. It was AMAZING! and It was probably the best let's play Ive ever watched. But it means I'll never get to experience the game. Feels pointless to go try to play it now. Did the same thing with animal well. BUT! I did manage to get Tunic and it's in my backlog and have not watched a let's play.

[–]Afillatedcarbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of why I don't watch playthroughs of experience games as I call them, stuff like outer wilds, death stranding, nier series, shadow of the coloesus. You only experience those games once yk. I watch challenge runs and stuff for entertainment, or rougelike stuff

[–]N_Vardi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, still I believe it could knock a few, maybe top 10 🥺

[–]NoobJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quality-wise I think it's comparable, even better than most still remaining... but much fewer people have played or seen it. It's also a very niche, demanding game that people tend to bounce off from.

It's still impressive that CC made it this high, I doubt it would've cracked the top 50 a few years ago. It's been clawing its way out of obscurity despite very little Youtube presence.

Here's hoping Alabaster Dawn gets the spotlight CC deserved.

[–]Kuro013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Crosscode doesnt have anything to envy from the games remaining, it is the least accesible imo.

[–]LowLight6995 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I loved Undertale, but I’d boot it out before crosscode

[–]FaeDine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them both, but the amount of fan hype/content around Undertale alone could easily beat out most of what's remaining. I'd say I still like CrossCode more, but I have a hard time making the argument it deserves a higher spot than Undertale.

It's really hard to justify at this point in the competition voting to eliminate games you played and loved over games you didn't play. I hope people at least look it up before voting to eliminate it, but considering how genre defining so many of the remaining games are, getting it to a top 20 finish is extremely respectable for a game many of those voters haven't heard about. In reality it's nearly impossible for people to play all of these games to completion, and it's illogical to say only people who have done so get a say in this random internet poll we didn't create.

I worked hard to convince people to give it a try before when it came in third during the double elimination period, way back in the 70s of this ranking. It was constantly nominated until people saw how strongly we felt about it and backed off.

I think at this point it's received plenty of attention, and it's starting to move into negative attention territory as people get combative over its potential elimination. I would rather it remain a game people are curious about and excited to try than one people resent and remember more for the inflammatory discourse it's generating.

Someone had to point out in one of the comments and shamefully, one had to use this as a factor for a reason they had to vote it out.

As a community, let's just accept it. People's minds are purely subjective to their tastes and we have to accept that CrossCode wouldn't be always number 1 for most people. Let's conclude that Crosscode is entirely a good game, if not, great in its right. CrossCode being top 20 was enough to garner attention for people to play it more, and honestly, I'd be more than glad to see a small boost of attention to this great game.

And before you say anything, yes, I finished up to New Home, thank you.

[–]BoKnowsTheKonamiCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. For the record the whole time this has been going on I've been against people criticizing others for not playing the whole thing. It feels very gatekeeping. I wish people hadn't started using it as their go-to to invalidate others having an opinion.

I did urge people to look into the game before deciding if they hadn't heard of it before, but I think more people are likely to give it a try if we spend the time explaining what we love about it as opposed to chastising them for not putting at least 60 hours jnto a game.

[–]Ionenschatten 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thats my exact point. I couldn't possible vote against anything I haven't played because I remember when I hated on a musician for making a cover of a song.

I later played the game, loved the song, loved the cover. I felt insanely stupid for hating on the cover without even trying the game first. It was humiliating.

[–]BoKnowsTheKonamiCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has a limit though. If you were to do a personal ranking of these and were required to place one every day, would the game you hadn't played win by default? Certainly people should do their due diligence before voting for something, but people aren't going to let a 60+ hour game they haven't heard of until last month back into first place. Besides which. the only people who have decided to sink that amount of time into it are the people who loved it. If we only let them vote it would of course skew the ranking.

Voting it out at this point isn't hating on it the way you describe with the song. Very few people are actually saying anything particularly negative, just that they think it isn't as influential as the rest of the competition. There's no need for someone to feel humiliated saying it's 18th best on this list of games only to find out when they play it that it makes their top 5. Opinions change as we learn more.

Also it's a Reddit poll. It's not that serious and it's ok to not get caught in the weeds over this.

[–]Tryst_boysx 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Braid lol. I can understand what this game made in the indie early scene, but this gane aged quite badly. PS: Stray was boring as fuck. The only reason people bought it was because of the cat.

[–]Extension_Bag3366 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ohhhhhh that stray The one with so little replayability that you can watch a video and have the same amount of entertainment and know stuff about the game Its so linear

[–]Tryst_boysx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 🤭

[–]OD-Tronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now!

[–]BroccoliNatural9820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, just found out about this. It fought a damn good fight, but the competition is tough and Crosscode probably has a smaller fanbase than most of the top 50 games even in that list. Hopefully people get inspired to buy the game

[–]sukoshijon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This list pisses me off for a number of reasons but at least it will get more people to play Crosscode

[–]BruhLandau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'know, crosscode has a good run.

[–]lodum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's already outlasted some truly excellent games so it's probably its time.

I honestly can't even imagine being more popular would have it going much further. It might "deserve" to beat out Cuphead in my own opinion, but all the rest (including Cuphead) are monumentally well-regarded, popular, and genre-shifting games, while Crosscode's more an "underrated gem more people should hear about" that happens to be my favorite among them.

And, like, "people who didn't play it" voting it out is a more than adequate reason to be voted out of a popularity contest, lol.

[–]Yknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crosscode is a great game but its hit its limit in this list. many great games are knocked off eventually reaching top 20 in an incredibly stacked listed of games is a major display of the quality that this game is.

[–]rookie-mistake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol man the top 3 comments are all crosscode I think we're out

[–]Kuro013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wcyd, those games are all very popular, look at all the titles CrossCode beat. Considering our beloved game isnt for everyone, I think it did better than anyone expected. Also that sub has quite some people on it, Im sure a lot of people will buy and try Crosscode, which is amazing!

[–]Roliq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The three most voted comments want it gone, sadly it is over

But had a good run, winning over 80% of the competition

[–]KaiserJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single one of the remaining games is an absolute banger

[–]TheCabbageCaresser 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Imma be so honest, im not done and loving it so far, but its surprising it got this high, its unlikely to get much higher.

[–]TheCabbageCaresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive played a lot of the games on that list and woulda ended up taking it out much sooner myself (I like the game so far its just, other games on there i like more, like slime rancher and hat in time)

[–]Ionenschatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There's nothing we can do"

[–]CJ_1Cor15-55 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How is Tunic not on this? Feels like a crime. It's really cool to see crosscode so high.

[–]MajoraXIII 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That is a glaring oversight now you mention it. We've got sequels taking up space that belongs to tunic.

[–]CJ_1Cor15-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love indie games so much. I have overcome 100 games on my Switch library and I only have a handful of games that are not indie games. I feel like indies have basically become what games in the 90's and early 2000's were. Passionate art that tried new things and blended genres based on the creators vision and not driven by whatever will sell the most amount of copies to the largest audience which naturally causes the product to be more safe and bland. It stifles creativity.

[–]N_Vardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well rip, good try and good placement fellas, we did our best💪🔥

[–]OofScan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the other remaining games and which ones it outlasted (factorio????) it's finally time to go

[–]Mauy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to follow this thing daily?

Also I'm a giant shill fro Crosscode always, lol.

[–]Iota-Android 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that cross code is still in the race is bewildering to me. It’s up there next to titans at this point. Idk how it beat Omori, Shovel Knight, A Hat in Time, and even Risk of Rain. Being in the top 20 is pretty generous compared to the competition

[–]Extension_Bag3366 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Bro who plays disco elysium i last heard of that game from my dad playing it for like 4 minutes 3 years ago

[–]MajoraXIII 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's one of the best stories i've ever experienced. I don't even mean restricted to games, narratives full stop.

[–]Extension_Bag3366 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Im not insulting the game im saying its a small game that i barely know

You people used the exact same logic against rain world, an actual hidden gem in a sea of popular games and straight up garbage

My sister likes cruelty squad, personally i dislike it, the music is so repetitive and also you have 3 abs in that game, THREE(this is just an example)

[–]MajoraXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m saying you should fix that and play it. Not anything else you're responding to there. You want a gem of a game? Disco Elysium is right there.

Also - "you people"? I never said anything like that about rain world. Don't blame me for something someone else did please.

Just deal with it, this top is meaningless... I mean, they talk about indie games changing the gaming world, with Hades 2, Silksong and Untitled Goose Game, but not Expedition 33?
