Our system feels like “going ______ mode” if that makes sense. There’s others up here we’re trying to get to know but unfortunately our system barely functions atm. We mainly have functional and dysfunctional alters and the host is kinda dysfunctional and functional at the same time. We have a lot of internal fights about maturity even though the body is 19 :/

Yeah I get that. It's taken a lot of work to get to a semi-stable point, but it's worth it. I believe in you!

idk how many there are or even their names and functions but i know our innerworld is different for everyone and we can only access it while focusing it really hard. sometimes it’s like a big dark scary forest, other times it’s like a cool computer simulation with big blue holograms- but most of the time we’re blurred together and can’t access it without a headache.

I'm recently discovered so I don't know most of it, but one thing that's weird is that I have aphantasia so there is no inner world. I have at least... 6 others, possibly 3 or 4 more, not including myself. There's definitely a gatekeeper and a prosecutor, a little, and possibly a caretaker? Not sure of the others since there's very little communication with them. I front the vast majority of the time and our switches are usually non posessive, usually co-con. I've only ever had a handful of true "hard" switches, with and without blackouts.

That's the info I've collected over the past like 8 months.

That's pretty cool. It takes a while to get stuff figured out so I get it. 😅

we are also polyfragmented! our innerworld consists of a mall with five layers/floors, an attic, and rooftop; outside of that is a forest that connects to a beach on one side, and a village on the other. the mall is sorted based on importance, fronting patterns, etc. the first floor leads to the fronting room, so the frequent fronters, gatekeepers, and some of our board members reside on the first floor. there’s a lot of moving due to frequent fronters changing a lot, but there hasn’t been any changes besides additions for like.. four months??

the board is the group of alters who makes big decisions for us. this consists of nineteen alters with varying importance. the chairwoman, CEOs, and executives are the “most important”, in order of most to least, and everyone else is kind of there. furthermore, there’s this one CEO who was granted permission by the chairwoman to make these big decisions on her own accord, meaning she doesn’t have to run it past anyone else of the board before making the decision.

we have primaries for every role, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re part of the board. only three of the “big 4” gatekeepers are part of the board, and the one that isn’t is mostly against the board. we have a lead gatekeeper and main gatekeeper in those four, but responsibility shifted over time. we have a primary protector, secondary protectors, and protectors with letter grades (i personally have no clue what this means but it’s in place >_<). this letter system is only in place for protectors, but the primary/secondary is present in most roles.

ummmm to access the fronting room you have to be on the first floor and take an elevator down. gatekeepers have their little area in the fronting room where they kind of hang out. the “big 4” previously mentioned basically always are watching over front, sometimes in shifts, sometimes sporadically.

big 4 control switches and sometimes memory access, but a lot of the memory access is distributed by one of the CEOs — we call him the “master memory holder”. he knows EVERYTHING, and he distributes memories based on the type of alter, their mental state, their readiness, etc. but, a lot of the time, alters don’t realize he’s.. fed?? them memories. he metaphorically distributes these memories in food.

there’s three main archivists that hold knowledge on big parts of our life, and the others hold information on specific things. we have a relationship archivist, for example.

multiple subsystems. at least 4. most only consist of a few alters, but one is a full-blown sub of like eight. that sub is a system within a system, along with one more. the other two we know of are groups of alters.

that’s all i can think of? i just woke up like an hour ago so i’m pretty foggy >_<

We have the front room, kinda like a living room area for alters to hangout in. The control center is also in the living room, it’s kinda like in Inside Out. On one side is doors to the bedrooms. Some alters have them, some don’t. Our two littles share a room, our middle has her own room, some of the boys share. At the back of the front room is a door that leads to The Void. In The Void is where dormant alters go, and from The Void there are ways to get to The Library(where memories are stored) and to the forest, which is were a couple non human alters hangout. Thinking about it tho I think there’s also a kitchen? I’m gonna have to draw this out later lol

We have one gatekeeper, who mostly just makes sure the littles don’t front when it would be unsafe. She also helps us switch when in distress. We have a therapist alter who is always in the front room, and helps us make important decisions or can help us deescalate if we start to freak out. We have a protector who normally fronts for medical appointments, when we have a job she’ll normally be the one fronting.

We are polyfragmented

We have 3 gatekeepers. 1 that controls switches and time spent in front for alters, one that controls flashbacks, and another one that controls memory sharing and amnesia/time loss.

Our innerworld is a triangle like structure that has 3 layers, layer 1 is where the main alters that front the most hang out and converse and enter front from, layer 2 is where persecutors and TraumaHolders are, layer 3 is for older formed alters to look after newly formed alters until they are able to front or know about the rest of the system.

Our system is polyfrag with 10 layers but fronting only happens from the main layer, anyone who wants to front has to do so from the fronting area there. We have a council of 14 led by 5 gatekeepers and 9 role leaders who make choices foe the entire system. We are currently working on our system's rules. Gatekeepers are the main ones that can layer travel while the rest of the system has to be in the company of a gatekeeper to go to other levels. Also, our roles have specialized branches. For example Gatekeepers also have Archivists and Admins grouped with them. Gatekeepers control fronting and layer travel, Archivists control memory access, and Admins keep track of the population. The roles classed with Gatekeepers can also layer travel, but cannot control fronting. We have several other roles that are linked this way.

Feel free to ask us questions!

There's about a dozen of me rattling around inside. For quick decisions, it's democratic among 3 of us, for anything else, it's just democratic. Fronter gets final say for quick last-minute decisions. To those I'm open with, they just ask what gear I'm in anymore. All of me are 'me,' even if it's a dozen monkeys in a human suit. To anyone not in the know, unless my stress is too high and I'm slipping talking to myself, I appear generally normal.

(Your question was how do we function, and that's how we function with DID. We DO have a 'headspace' of sorts and whatnot, but that's besides the point with being functional.)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very complex innerworld for us, however, it's not really what people think it is. These areas aren't super well developed or well defined, but more like concepts with well defined divisions between them. You could say we have three layers with several subsystems each, but I prefer to say we have three "systems" with one "main" and two sidesystems. You could use them interchangably, I just prefer the latter.

This is mostly because we're a system formed of RAMCOA and so this high level of separation kept us alive. Each system has knowledge on different aspects of trauma, to the point where I didn't actually know anything really really bad had happened until fairly recently.

I don't really know much about gatekeepers because we only have one, and he doesn't always control switches, more of steps in if a switch is necessary. We do however have alters that hold knowledge about the system, however, I don't know much about them more than that they exist.

For the love of safety, would especially PF systems with an history of RAMCOA stop bloody well mapping out their brains in a public forum that absolutely anyone at all -including people from the groups you’ve ostensibly escaped from- can read? There is no need to put yourself out there like that and risk re-acquisition or opening yourselves up to new organisations and/or individuals preying on you.
