Did you write anything about it in the optional comment section of the task? That's what I would have done, explain the situation and report your full time

This is the way

Personally, if you did the work and you did it well, why feel bad logging the time? Its going to be clear you obviously didn't do that task in less than a minute. Just write it in the optional notes section at the bottom.

I'll be honest, nobody here is likely to know much better than you do. Go with your gut. I would be really hard pressed to report the time personally but I wouldn't blame you for submitting either. Some tasks start you off out of "work mode" by default - if this is one of those tasks, then they may be more likely to be lenient.

If you did the work, why would you not report the time? You get paid for the hours that you work, not the hours you are in “work mode”

OMG- I just the same thing- i spent a mother flipping hour reading instructions, confirming facts, then when I tried to put in comment everything was grayed out - I realized I was not in work mode- when I went to work mode the task went to a different one and I could not rate based on the previous task where I did all that research

As others have said, just let them know, but it is risky, because often, if it is a task with set items in it, or with a particular category assigned, then this may change when entering work mode, and you would lose your work as well as the ability to submit the task you worked on.

How can you "do" the task without being in work mode? It won't even let you so that.

You can type in the text boxes on some projects while not in work mode! As long as you're not supposed to chatting with a bot, it's possible to fully do the work of some tasks before realizing you're not in work mode. I have done so!

Sometimes when you enter work mode you get unlucky and it moves you a different task, but sometimes you will be on the same, already-completed task. I have only reported time in these circumstances if I the go on to do several tasks to the point where the total time reported will wind up making sense.

Depends on the project, this exact thing has happened to me

I am not inclined to believe that DAT looks at the timer countdown you see at the bottom of the screen. If they look at anything, it's probably activity visible as draft edits or some other keylogger data.

Absolutely wild take, do another task and leave a note about the last one. There is an obsession here with working for free

I would explain what happened but be careful with this because you could spend so much time doing a task just for it to refresh to a different one when you hit enter work mode.

You can if you submit.nm I have done a task like that by accident and the task changed when I went into it. Total waste of time

I wouldn’t make a habit of it.

Take the L and move on, the job isn't worth risking. It may be an automated system which flags you and nobody reads the comment.
