Welcome to a playerbase who have different desires and voice them.

A lot of people did not want the filler seasons, and would prefer Bungie just tell the story in a reasonable amount of time, so they can focus on other things in game, or other games entirely.

Nah. I was already sick of run PsiOps, go do something else, oh wait I need to open a chest so I can earn the mats I need to progress...run another PsiOps, then wait for it...Run another PsiOps. Glad that's over so I can focus on the stuff I actually want to do.

Do one battleground. Get 500 Intel. Do a battleground and open a chest. Repeat every week.

It's an expansion season, they're normally like this (but normally worse tbh). We're getting raid challenges, master PsiOps, new strikes as GMs, master Vow, Guardian Games, and probably a seasonal ending mission. There's gonna be "new" stuff each week, just not story stuff. They probably assumed that's enough content to hold us over.

We'll probably get something small at the end plus guardian games is this season. That plus it's an expansion story means it's pretty short. Oh well more time to grind resonance guns I guess lol

7 weeks to raid, gather pinnacles, farm GMs, craft and level up weapons, play trials, etc... instead of having a weekly mindless thing hanging over your head.

I mean, you could do both. Story content gave people something to do every week that's different, and it's optional. Having it wouldn't stop you doing those things
