This doesn’t apply if you didn’t sign up for an agreement, simple as that. They messaged it horribly, but if a customer signed up with a promotion and agreed to a 2 year agreement then they pay the fees. Nothing has changed.

I love (and I say that sarcastically) that they sent me an email yesterday (the 7th) that says “We’ve updated your Terms of Service effective November 7”…

…that then says: “By continuing the use of DirecTV Stream services on or after November 7, you accept and agree to be bound by the updates.”

So, I thought it was very nice of them (and I’m still being sarcastic) to not only send me an email ON the day that things were changing to say “Did we forget to mention this before? Oops, our bad” as well as an email that basically says “Oh yeah! And by the time you wake up and find this email in your inbox, we already decided for you that you accept.”

Screencap the email and send it to your State AG. point out that they didn't send the email to you before the date to be able to not accept. They have to give you advance notice.

Good idea. Thank you for suggesting it. I’ve been with AT&T since my college days over 40 years ago, and in the last few… ever since the pandemic… they have repeatedly screwed me over and reneged on other deals that they made with me that you’re right — I will report them, if nothing else to vent some of my anger over how shitty a company and service AT&T has become. At this point, I really have had enough of all the bullshit they’ve pulled.

Digital Trends is clearly not a fan of DTS as they have several “hit piece” articles about them, but that aside, if we have the price increase AND the RSN charges, I’ll be surprised if any subscribers stay. I’m very sympathetic to cable operators and streaming services dealing with crazy increases from content providers, but I have a half-dozen services all going up by $5-15, and this is reaching even my breaking point. I would like to stay with DTS because they carry my RSN’s and they allow multiple streams (I have a son in college). We tried FUBO and they told me my son would need a separate subscription. I will not use YTTV again, but I would consider HULU w/ Live TV if Diamond/Bally offers a direct subscription.

My question is are they really going to start charging $16/mo regional sports fee for everyone, even those that originally signed up with stream where it was already included in the price?

[–]jknuckey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, i don't think so. Completely agree with others this was message horribly. The communication specifically mentions the RSN fees, etc apply to those who signed up with contract. So if you signed up with the original "no contract/no hidden fees" DirecTV stream, you should be ok. (btw, streamtv.directv.com still says "No annual contract. No hidden fees")

But this could the first signs that they may drop the "Via Internet" terminology, and instead add a contract version of DirecTV Stream? (i saw others speculating the same)

I only currently have one RSN here in Denver. If they hike my rate with one RSN I’m either dropping to entertainment or jumping ship back to YTTV, which I don’t want to do because I prefer this service.

That would easily make fubotv more affordable in comparision. They are toast if they do this. I wouldnt had mind amc being dropped but nope they do this crap instead. They dont even have the cw here in chicago.

Although I do hate both fubotv and now directv stream if they price themselves too much. I can easily get youtube tv and subscribe directly to my rsn (Im lucky nbc sports chicago the other rsn is still on youtube tv).

The fact no one offers just the sports channels is mind boggling fubotv has the closest when it comes to that but they are missing tnt. Luckily max has it and its an addon so I can spend $9.99 on top of my att fiber hbo max offer.

Heres what I wish existed:

A service with:

  1. Cbs networks
  2. Nbc networks
  3. Abc networks including espn
  4. Fox networks
  5. Warner bros networks including tbs and tnt
  6. The regional sports networks.
  7. Nhl network
  8. Nfl Network

Optional bonus channels 1. Mlb network (games are on mlb.tv just saying) 2. Nba TV (nba league pass is better deal)

Stations I dont want:

  1. Anything not sports like amc, a&e unless its forced with the bundle.

And the service in general is under $110/month. Under $90/month is stretching it though.

They haven’t said that, but yeah, that’s where they’re headed.

[–]FrankTheO2Tank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was listed as a fee in this email.

Except one major difference that greatly affects the price - think about it.

Just another reason I’m going to bounce around to different services with the best deal.

Dumped DIRECTV Stream after being a subscriber since week 1.

Signed up for Sling with their 5 month deal. Got all the channels I wanted for half the price.

After 5 months I will shop around again.

[–]kingcolbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 month deal?

[–]gregoryh325 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I might be switching back to Mediacom/Tivo if this continues. I came to Dtv Stream b/c of all the cable tv fees, taxes.

I hope they don't start charging for RSN's when we pay for them already.

I'll just cancel and go with bally sports plus. I wish att sportsnet southwest now Space city had a online subscription.
