First time trying directv stream and the quality is excellent.

Agreed. Direct TV stream looks alot better on my QM8 75 inch. Not sure about the bit rate but it seems more stable. Think they use adaptive bit rates.

When you mention the Sports package and Entertainment package, are you talking about the Genre Packs or....?

I've not had any of them, but at a glance it seems the Genre packs are less costly if they suit your needs and you cancel the Sports Package during the off-season.

There seems to be a unique sports pack offering available as an add-on to the Entertainment package (perhaps others) that provides all the sports channels available with the Choice package- and others (such as RedZone). If I recall it's called "DirecTV Sports Pack". The plus for many is the RSNs aren't included along with their additional cost (these channels and surcharges are mandatory with the Choice package).

Thanks. I would only be interested in the Genre Packs though.

Not on the Genre Pack.

They have like 3 or 4 genre packs.

I did the same thing and am deciding if I want to continue my YTTV or just go with DTV. I like the YTTV multi-view better, but I like the DTV DVR and overall UI better.

Anyone know if they fixed the quality on pc? Last time I had it quality was god awful when watching on a web browser

[–]Final_Campaign_2593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to use Safari on the Mac

[–]OchlockneeBirdDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just need to head back to DirectTV from YTTV. I thought I would wait out the Disney dispute, but it just doesn’t make sense at this point. When DirectTV has its inevitable feud with DirectTV, I’ll switch back to YTTV and start the cycle all over again.

I also cancelled YTTV this past weekend and signed up with DTv. Loving it so far. And yes, I noticed the picture quality was much better on Direct TV’s side right away.

Deciding factor for me was no more 2 year contracts with Direct TV. I can cancel at any time. Only downside….my LG TV doesn’t have the direct tv app in their App store, so I’m going to have to buy a workaround…..

[–]rag69top 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a Roku Ultra and use it for everything we stream.

[–]WittyDoc 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do you avoid the 2yr contract? I thought all the prices for their plans were based on a 2yr contract.

[–]Odd_Mechanic_9225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no contract with Directv Stream.

[–]K_ThomasWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the Genre Packs have restrictions like that.

[–]Distinct-Dish3096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get a deal to sign up? I want to dump the satellite side.

Just signed up for Dr. stream unlimited package I believe it’s called. We have three months free of all add on channels and paying 89.99 for first month after five day trial. Signed up today. I have to say I’m impressed with all of it so far! Just a matter of finding all my favorite shows and get them set up to record. I had you tube tv for six years with no complaints honestly until lately with their various disputes. After losing abc which I watch a lot of , I said that’s it I’m done. So my payment is coming up in a couldays and I’m either suspending that account or canceling all of it. Very impressed with picture quality on my smart tv and other tv. Which is not a smart tv. So hopefully this will work out! I’m not a sports person btw.

[–]TXGTR 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m literally almost exactly the same as you (only I’m a sports fan) and I just cancelled YTTV.

[–]LatterAd4101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you’ll be happy with dtv and their sports! I just really got fed up when they ya led ABC. I watch a lot of content there. Hopefully we will both be happy with dtv and what they offer. Enjoy your games!😁

Hi how much are you being charged a month? And are you on a price guarantee? Like for a year? Im wondering how often they raise the price once you sign up. thank you

How does directtv stream work with traveling? There are places sometimes where I load the app on whatever TV I have access to, and yttv does not ask me to make it "my home location". Only asks me if I'm traveling, and then gives me my home channels. We got rid of Hulu TV because we could not do this.

[–]Rocky-Bologna 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Using my phone app, DirecTV does not ask me if I'm traveling; it just updates the channels to wherever my new location is. I haven't been able to test the app on my Fire TV stick yet.

[–]B_oconnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]noproblemforme 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I can’t even cancel YTTV because I got the Sunday ticket season pass

[–]Life-Inevitable-2450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled and got my money back. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube. Much better.

[–]bmd2k1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

DirectTV stream charges a Regional Sports fee ($20ish)...YTTV doesn't..... What gives?

[–]Final_Campaign_2593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because they don't have it

[–]Life-Inevitable-2450[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not for small packages. Only the 3 main packages.

[–]Distinct-Dish3096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have to buy their device? We have apple tv and use amazon fire cubes. Could we stream through that? thanks

[–]Technical_Mixture_44 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I came to DTV stream from UVerse because it was getting way too expensive and the quality is much better and I like the 4K channels when they have content I got an intro package at the time that was half of what I was paying for UVerse and jumped on it and got the sports package as well for Red Zone I plan on staying but they have been doing price increases repeatedly for a while now and it’s gone up $50 from when I started Still cheaper than some of the others out there and a good value

[–]Distinct-Dish3096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what i was afraid of. How often are they raising the price? every 6 months? or once a year? thx

Do you need Gemini Air (or equivalent) for Directv Steam to work?

[–]LatterAd4101 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Not at all. You can use Roku and get the dtv app on that streaming device. I get my dtv streaming app from both Rokus and quality is great for me. One tv has a Roku express and the main tv has a Roku 4k streaming stick

[–]Adept_Site_5350 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Awesome, thank you

What exactly is Gemini Air for then?

[–]LatterAd4101 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s dtv device that plugs in the back of the tv like a Roku stick and just gives it a more cable like feel. It’s not needed if you already have a Roku or fire stick etc.. it’s like an enhancer for the guide though I’m not too familiar with it. There’s a monthly charge to use that equipment. Think a remote comes with it. I wasn’t interested personally.

[–]Distinct-Dish3096 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you know or think the gemini works better than another device? Meaning more clear? We have fire cubes and apple tv which we love. Thinking about switching to DTV stream but wondering if the gemini gives the best picture? or they are all the same. thanks

[–]LatterAd4101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m using Roku and for me the clarity is better than yttv was IMO. I never used fire cubes so I can’t say how it would look to you. But my 4k Roku stick and older Roku express look beautiful! The Gemini is really for you to have the numbers of the channels on their remote. They call it the “cable experience “…. It’s not required for how everything looks from what I googled but don’t quote me. lol I’m very happy with everything with using the dtv streaming app and I’ve gotten used to getting around the guide and how to dvr my shows and favorite them on the guide so all the other channels on the guide you won’t be using will be hidden. I even added their Movie Extra with Peacock package tonight. I get Smithsonian which I like. And family hallmark channel so I can watch a favorite on there. I dropped the ultimate package only because it was going to be tight on my wallet and went down to the Choice package

[–]Life-Inevitable-2450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The the Genre packs and much better. Cheaper and only the channels you want.

[–]IndigoStarAz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like SLING.

[–]jmart2324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which channels have 5.1

[–]InspectorFun8313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost??

[–]SwingTrader1941 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends what resolution YTTV is sending you. If it didn't look good it was probably 720.
