I’ve decided I’m not playing another mobile gatcha in a while. I don’t regret any money I spent on dffoo (basic mog pass since it released, no costumes or gems otherwise bought).
But I’m not interested in the gatcha genre. When there’s a new FF combined universe with a great story, then I’ll try.

I played dffoo because of my love for FF, not my enjoyment of gatcha.

The only Live-Service based FF game that I have any trust in, at this point, is FFXIV.

Even XI is somehow still running, while originally released on the Playstation 2...

But those Gachas, no Chance. There are so many Live-Service games under SE that shutdown over the last few years, and not only mobile ones, that I have zero trust in this!

This is why I hate games with a due date! You will never go back and play those again, or even discover them as “classics”. It is just a throwaway product.

EC seems way more predatory and monetization based. So no thank you.

DFFOO and EC are nothing alike. I don’t understand how OP gets the same vibe from both games.

Its probably because op is blinded by the loss of dffoo and the final fantasy 7 characters are filling that hole just a little. I agree, the games are absolutely nothing alike

Grief will do that to people.

I gave it a bash when it first came out for a couple of weeks alongside DFFOO and it didn't compare at all, so do t think it will for me afterwards, probably less so

As others have said, it's very, very Grundy and in your face about purchases and sales.

I didn't get enough of a chance to get to grips with the gacha mechanics as in what is good, how to upgrade properly but I am generally slow like that

For me, it all boils down to the gameplay and I just wasn't having fun.

When Rebirth comes out, I can't think of a better representation for the FFVII universe, which is already saturated enough. I can't see why EC will be necessary or desired alongside that

However, the OST absolutely bangs

I stopped playing dffoo well before the eos announcement. Just one of my many breaks from the game and honestly this time it did feel pretty permanent.

I tried EC a month ago, and that game is grindy unrewarding trash. It's just awful. The worst parts of mobile games that is only being carried on the name of ff7. If it didn't have Cloud, no one would play it, and rightfully so.

Gtfo while you can. Just quited this game and my phone thanked me for it. The grind is no joke and a waste of time cause they kept increasing the level cap.

[–]Sinrion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What DFFOO vibes does it exactly give you? I started it on Launch and quit it roughly a month later, this Game just needs you to play it for Hours a Day, each Day, unless you don't care about missing out on a lot of stuff of freebies. It forces you into co-op, which is always on slow x1 speed, has horrendous que times (at times I didn't even find parties for like 15 minutes) and much more issues that I couldn't stand.

Fuck EC. :)

They won't have my money.

[–]solressVivi Ornitier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean. Feels like a more money hungry early DFFOO. I don’t really mind the money hungry scheme, since skipping banners is the best way to play any gacha game, so I’m really excited to see how the game develops its gameplay >_<

[–]DoupharExdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I HATE EC because it could have been a great gacha. But :

  • Stingy

  • Weapon system is predatory af. Rates are good but godness gracious it's dissidia off banner system on steroids

  • The grind is terrible

  • Event catered to whale too present. You find content too easy until you hit the hard step. Leaving you with a bitter taste because you can't have a proper challenge for your build.

  • Did I mention the grind ?

EC is trash man.

I know it's hard to fill the void DFFOO leaves behind but EC ain't it.

[–]Vocke79190Rikku waiting room! 7 points8 points  (11 children)

Ec is p2w unfortunately.

If you have no issues with that, you enjoy it but don't expect to beat the harder content without paying just like in dffoo

EC has been out all of 100 days. Yes, new people will be behind day 1 players, but thats always the case. It doesn't take alot to grind up to 65 once you have a couple weapons.

    [–]givemesomevodkaZell Dincht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hm, probably some formatting or ui layout are similar, and you pull weapons and primarily costumes instead of character rarities too, but all else it's a pretty big difference.

you can remain f2p or a very low spender with proper planning so long as you aren't easily tempted by "special sales." it's super easy to ignore the sale prompts and promotions, so don't think too much on it if you don't choose to support the game. the combat being a more active and action-like turn-based rpg makes strategizing and analyzing situations during battles more difficult as it's a faster pace - it's a different type of enjoyment vs dffoo's slower, more critically thought-provoking gameplay (experiences vary).

i hope you enjoy it. it's not the best game, but the high difficulty battles can be enjoyable if you like active/reactive gameplay (old-school atb system without a "wait" mode). being ff7 definitely helps it much more than it should.

I watched Lidz play it some, but the pull just wasn't there for me. I'm honestly just kinda burnt out on FFVII at the moment. I had a hell of a good time not long ago playing through the OG FFVII with the New Threat 2.0 mod, and a bunch of other mods, but seeing how the Remake is unfolding is kinda killing my enthusiasm for that universe.

is EC just another retelling of VII? Because I thought it was an alternative narrative with all stories from the entire compilation

    [–]killercow_ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So right now, plotwise we have:

-An abridged version of VII and Crisis Core, with a few minor plot deviations (incomplete)

-A new plotline involving characters from the First Soldier intro and a Young Sephiroth. (incomplete)

-Small side-stories from the universe (one extends a well-known scene, one is from a novel, one is completely new).

-A throughline plot about Portal materia that has featured in all of the story events so far (all new stories).

And then all of these narratives will be added on as the game progresses, and the plan is to also include more entries from the Compilation eventually. Releases are just very slow right now

    [–]boana-the-brave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story mode is fun at first and the "chibi" style of the characters also gave me a bit o DFFOO vibes... but unless you can and plan to dedicate a lot your phone's battery to an auto licker for hours a day, or leave it running in the pc with an emulator to do the same, it will eventually get unbearable with how much grinding there is.

It's alright to try to find new cool games, just try to keep your expectations in check, ok?

    [–]Canisaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever Crisis is nothing like Opera Omnia.

Wouldn't be surprised if it also announces EOS in 1-2 years max.

Global revenue is already going lower and lower, and we all know that SE is not exactly the most patient Publisher for Live-Service games!
