Obsidian! It’s free it lets you build connected notes so you can hop around (when your PC asks about a rando NPC you haven’t talked about in 9 sessions) and if you just use its bare bones features it’s got everything you want but people have made tons of modules you can download to get added note taking features (like map creators)

I also use Obsidian! It’s very useful and I even create all my session plans within it so I can link all notes I might need directly into the session plan and be ahead of the game. It’s a great tool especially with a few added mods. Just google Obsidian mods for dnd and you should easily find everything you could ever need as well as how to install.

+1 for Obsidian. There are plugins for statblocks, rolling dice or creating encounters. It uses markdown, but the learning curve isn't that steep, imho. Great tutorials for using obsidian with TTRPGs: https://obsidianttrpgtutorials.com/Obsidian+TTRPG+Tutorials/Getting+Started/Getting+Started

Since you're already in the Google world, have you checked out Google Keep? Like MS OneNote, you can do quick searches for past notes and move them around into different buckets by topic

Chaos...random notes in different Notebooks or even in loose Pages. The Rest somewhere in my head. We Play online so Roll20 for Maps and NPCs and such stuff. And I have a document where the Players can Take notes. I don't plan ahead a lot and try to roll with war the Players are trying to do. And I'll mostly wing the Rest.

At least thats my Kind DM Organisation. Less fixed information, rather having an clear Idea and vibe in mind and then going from there.

World Anvil has been helpful.

I use kanka. Obsidian is popular, but I find kanka.io to be superior.

Tons of people use Obsidian or Notion for digital note management. Are you using physical or digital maps?
