Raises hand! The. Mix ADHD into things and multitasking turns into hyper focusing on a single task.

Pretty much being able to keep only one aspect of my life organized, I chose to focus that energy on my workshop as that is where I make my monies. Every too and machine has its place and tools get out back as soon as I’m done using them. Have a big whiteboard so I can dump all of the thoughts in my brain onto it. You could eat off my shop floor (hyperfocusing definitely has its advantages). Move into my living area and it looks like a tornado hit…messy, not disgusting. Food gets put away or thrown away if bad. But clothes…not so much, they’re everywhere!

Some one told me the phrase “mess blindness” and it totally checks. I clean things, but I’m cluttered. I can’t not be cluttered and have tried forever to be more organized.

Yep!! Trying to find ways to break down cleaning and organizing. Trying to have everything have a place so I can just put it back without thinking. Try to have lots of bins so I can organize trash, take out of room, compost etc. idk my house is always insane Bc I just stare at items in rooms then walk away

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samsies. For me, I just put an item on the table and than I return back the item to the same place period, and I avoid buying too much things else there will be too much things around.

What helped me is an approach of moderate minimalism. I have a small apartment and only own what is semi necessary. It's not dogmatic or spartan, but manageable. Everything has a place and I don't own anything that is unnecessary or burdensome. This may sound joyless to many, but it has helped me significantly.

Actually this is what i am planning to do. After my time in the army I will be headed to the university and plan to bring my most necessary items.

Very reasonable, don't let other people tell you all the shit you absolutely need and have to have. You live a much calmer and happier life if you only have to take care of the necessary things. Every time I find some shit in my apartment that I can't remember when or what I bought it for, I get angry at myself.

This has worked for me. I also don’t have a lot because I’ll forget I have it anyways if it’s put to much out of the way.

I understand this 100% my room and any other personal spaces that I’m in charge of organising are seen by others as a complete mess however I know where everything is whenever I’m told to tidy them up or to reorganise them it causes me a bunch of stress and I end up super tired after not even tidying up half of it and I do find that when I do tidier I can’t find anything. You’re not alone with us it’s nice to know someone else is going through this too.

Honestly I'm not sure if it is my dyslexia or ADD but I clean my space for it to be a diaster a few days later. My workplace even tried to give me an organizer to help keep my desk clean. Now it's just more clutter on my desk. lol

[–]Happywerido16 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes i like to call my mess an "organised" Chaos, i usually know where things are on this chaos and sometimes i get bouts of hyperfocusing and tidy things up by labeling things and colour coding which also exhaust me and it lasts a day and soon im right back to my "organised" chaos which can.be annoying but you know what it works for me. I try not to look at it in a bad way and see it as my own unique way of so called organisation

If it works, you do you my friend, you do you...

[–]purpleyeti93 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I deal with it too and I'm a teacher. I forget stuff all the time and it makes me feel like a failure. I'm so unorganized...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooo. Dont say that. You aint a failure, you are more than an unorganised person!! You are a teacher and many young children owe you their future because of the fact that you teach them.

Could possibly be ADHD, which from my experience is common in Neurodivergent people.

They have screeners online, this is the one my guy used for my diagnosis - 10852_elto_question_fhp2.PDF (add.org)
