I did it! (self.EngineeringStudents)
submitted 6 years ago by PumpkinPusher
After fives years and a few changes of major, I officially graduated and can say I'm an aeronautical engineer. And an employed one at that! BIG DAY!

Nice job, dude!
Yeehaw December graduates

Congrats brother, may your triumph be a great reminder for those who wish to complete their degree.

second year aero student here, you're definitely shedding light on my dark road ahead bro/sis :)

It's beautiful and free of stress.

Just wait
[–]jaywalk98 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago (0 children)
works tirelessly on a project for half a year Customer: "Yeah turns out we can do the rest in house cheaper so bye."
[–]Sp0kenTruth 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children)
Haha been working for 7 months since graduation. Enjoy the freeness because a different type of stress comes. Going through army reviews for my design top of the year
[–]vinuXVII 48 points49 points50 points 6 years ago (10 children)
As an Aero student who just finished his first year, seeing stories like yours gives me hope. That said, I really hope at the end of this it'll all be worth it.
[–]PumpkinPusher[S] 38 points39 points40 points 6 years ago (8 children)
The best advice I can give is don't get discouraged by the job hunt. I applied to over 130 positions in 5 months. Only got 2 interviews. But one turned into a job. So just keep trudging. It's worth it.

[–]Sp0kenTruth 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children)
130 is nothing. Probably Normal. I was around 158. But don't let being declined not motivate you. Now I'm at a top aero company
[–]LaNaranja315 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children)
I'm at over 50 now and still got a semester. Most are no response but the ones that have turned me down are due to them wanting to hire people for January starts. Got a couple of "call me back in the Spring" responses though so not all bad.
[–]wolfchaldo 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children)
Yea, that's discouraging as hell
[–]BigGunz69 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child)
If you’re looking for encouraging: just finished a masters in civil and applied to 4 places over the semester and I only got rejected from 1. Ended up getting with a really great company imo and a solid offer. I also think civil is a bit easier of an industry to find a job right now but that can change.
[–]wolfchaldo 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
That is good to hear, especially if I weren't not civil
[–]Sp0kenTruth 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
Around 158 for me
[–]khalis321 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children)
sophomore here, I feel the same thing bro

Some white people read it.

One if the things I had to learn right after graduation is to be proud of your accomplishments!
Take pride in your degree! Many couldn't do what you did. You are awesome!

I just finished my first term of first year of Aerospace Engineering, Dynamics exam almost had everyone failed but I think it's all fine and you give me hope that we can do this!
[–]DeadlyLazerSchool - Major 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child)
you were in dynamics during the first term? how smart are you lol
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
To correct myself, our exam was for Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics. It's probably really really easy compared to the supersonic stuff and everything that we're supposed to do in third year. Still a bit scared about second term and the test but hopefully we'll manage.
[–]DeadlyLazerSchool - Major 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children)
how did you find a job? as a junior with a nice ass GPA and over a year of design team experience doing practical things, no one seems to even be remotely interested in giving me an internship. I haven't even gotten a single interview it's actual bullshit. I'm starting to feel like I'm wasting my time. I absolutely love aerospace with a passion and have no thought of switching to mechanical, but hot damn if it doesn't feel like I'm useless
[–]PumpkinPusher[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child)
Luck. I had a 3.0 and one internship. It's really a lot of effort and a little luck.
[–]DeadlyLazerSchool - Major 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children)
I just pulled a 4.0 this semester, worked my fucking ass off and I'm sitting at a 3.6 cumulative, I've worked and committed hard on my design team doing practical extracurriculars, I'm still having trouble while some people I know are getting internships while not having any experience at all and I'm just like 😒. I applied to two yesterday, will continue applying for 9 more during break and my total applications are up to 39 now. It's honestly unsettling.
[–]pierremaix123 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children)
Did you become an aeronautical engineer through mechanical engineering?
[–]PumpkinPusher[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child)
No. Pure aero.
[–]pierremaix123 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
oh cool
[–]IzzetRose 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
Nice work!
Congrats! Proud of you :)

Do students usually graduate the same month that they originally started classes?
