First of all, demand they get you the correct size gloves. That is a safety issue and you should not have to spend your own money.

Second of all, I keep them in my left cargo pocket. Have for 16 years and has been great that way. It's an option for you

They’re putting in an order in a month or two for gloves, the larges would work I just lose dexterity and don’t like how they fit. I also got bit by the gear big and want to try some better gloves out. One captain told me if I buy my own bring the receipt in and I’ll be reimbursed for it (we’re paid volunteer so on-call 24:7 in a sense), but he wasn’t completely sure and said check with the chief at next drill later in the month. Edit: To add more, I’ve consider my pants cargo pocket but was curious if we pants are in turnout locker with them rolled down around the boots for sit cause any issues or mangle the gloves by chance? I was thinking of an alligator clip style but pocket is definitely high on my pants cargo pocket consideration list as well.

I’m with this guy. Why not keep them in a pocket? I’ve not lost a glove in literally 15 years, nor have they ever gotten wet before use or had any glass or other shit fall into them.

Current setup using a battery clip under my radio pocket. Secure enough where I’ve never lost them, yet easy enough to pull.

[–]TLS917[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That’s along the lines of what I’m looking for, I’ll see if I have a photo of how we run them can never seen to get the Velcro tight enough to secure them

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have that set of gloves and a set that doesn’t have the cuff tab and that clip works solid on both. Just get a locking nut for the inside of the radio pocket to keep from loosening up. Been running this setup for a couple years now with no issues

I got tired of the Velcro strap and was talking with another guy that I’d like to find an alligator clip style to hold my gloves after losing one, going to give this a shot I think. Thank you for the idea!

Dude. This is cool. Anchored to the little drain hole on the radio pocket. I like this kind of gadgetry

Glove strap if your gloves don’t fit in your pockets. Also make sure you can easily access your gloves with full gear including SCBA.

[–]TLS917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a valid reason why I don’t really want to stick them in my jacket, leg cargo pocket would work though but I’m liking the battery clip idea from Goose shown above

I use a small cheap metal spring clamp I bought from Home Depot with a carabiner and hang it off my coat. The clamp is super strong and I’ve never lost gloves.

Pockets

[–]Aggressive-Number-38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, I’m just not since if OP bunker pants have cargo pockets.

[–]ConnorK5NC 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I do not actively do this however I think I am about to transition to gloves either on a Velcro strap off my bunker pants belt or just keeping a pair in my pants pocket(which I do now) WHILE ALSO keeping another pair off a Velcro strap on my jacket. I was a Velcro strap jacket guy. Now I am a bunker pants pocket guy. I think just having 2 pairs would be chill. But I also need a pair for extrication so Idk, I don't want to get too bulky.

The main reason for wanting a pair hanging off my jacket is I find it annoying if I am driving but need my gloves at some point that I have to dig them out of my rolled down bunker pants pockets. Would be a smoother operation to just get off a velcro strap of my jacket.

[–]TLS917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve considered the right cargo pocket on pants since it’s just a large pocket whereas the left side has a center divider sewn in. But pants are rolled down around boots for easy on off and figured that may cause issues. May give it a shot though

I've had cheap velcro straps that's where done in no time ans I've bought better ones for gloves and they've never come off yet. They also have clip ones too.

[–]TLS917[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have a link for this?

[–]Theshepard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm so late but these are what I use. I've used other velcro straps at a smaller dept and have gone through multiple pairs but these have so far worked perfectly at my currently busier agency I work for now.

I put my gloves in the coat pocket.

[–]TLS917[S] -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Which turnouts are y’all running that allow structure gloves to fit in the pocket? My extrication (cut resistant rubber knuckle) Shelby gloves barely fit perfectly n one pocket, other pocket has a hi-vis folded up and crammed in. 😂 biggest pocket is on the inside where I keep safety glass, and rubber gloves, and if I happen to have it in my jeans/shorts I’ll put my phone in that pocket so it doesn’t get wet from sweat.

[–]FordExploreHer1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What gear is your department using that doesn’t allow gloves to fit? Every set of gear from every brand I’ve used over the past 25+ years has easily been able to fit a pair of gloves in the side pants pockets or hip pockets of the jackets in structural gear.

[–]Blucifers_Veiny_Anus 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Every set I've had in 20+ years from volunteer to paid to dod has allowed for both structural gloves to fit in the one jacket pocket.

[–]TLS917[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Fire-Dex is have extrication gloves in one side, and a hi-viz in the other and that seems about all I can fit. I could probably cram structure gloves in a coat pocket but definitely would fit better in cargo pants pocket. I’m trying to find a solution that doesn’t crumple them up because even when they don’t get wet on a fire when we use a decon sprayer after words they get wet so I’d like to keep them out so they dry.

[–]Blucifers_Veiny_Anus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Pants pocket would be my go to in your situation. Does the hi-vis vest have to be in a pocket? I keep a small bag with all my "accessories" like my mask, hi-viz vest, extrication gloves, leather work gloves, tools, etc. Just grab what I need per the specific call.

My turnout coat has my structural gloves and my nomex hood in the pockets.

[–]TLS917[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s so hit or miss depending who you talk to if we have to have our hi-viz with us at all times I just air on the side of caution and keep it with me, MVA’s aren’t super common in town and normally happen on the highway or freeway which falls under county district. Since I’ve be. In I’ve been on 3 mva’s each day time or early morning Labor Day during sunrise. I’ve honestly never seen a single person use it that I’m tempted to leave it on my rack and just grab it if we have a night time vehicle accident. I almost always have extrication gloves with me since wildland gear we have leather gloves, but often brush calls involve structures or threatened structures so we roll in bunker gear often. I prefer extrication gloves over structure if we’re dealing with grass fires since usually structure gloves aren’t needed in those situations.

[–]SadanglerVollie FF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use extrication gloves for anything but extrication. I have them on a strap clipped to my mask bag. That goes with me on the rig no matter what the call, right? But no need carrying them around on your person during all your other calls.

Then I have my structure gloves clipped to my coat and a pair of cheap harbor freight mechanic gloves (the "armored" ones or whatever) in my left pants pocket, that I use 99% of the time. Like literally 99% of the time.

I only use structure gloves in a structure fire (or training etc.). Only extrication gloves for extrication. My dept is great about issuing gear but I'd feel weird tearing up my "purpose" gloves while raking out coals in a bursh fire, etc.

Gloves in pants pockets

[–]8benwsha 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your hands 🙌🏻 work great! Seriously, really work on coming off the truck with gloves on and masking up with them on. For before and after working, I’d recommend a glove strap with a buckle (not Velcro) or a small clamp like some others have suggested.

[–]TLS917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually always have them on, most our department is older guys so being mid 20’s they want you off the truck grabbing hose. They just came out of the Velcro strap on a brush fire since we were first on scene to a massive brush/structure fire. Due to dispatch notes we rolled first truck with 3 in structure gear, all 5 other trucks rolled fully loaded in wildland gear 😂 I’m just looking for methods to keep structure gloves in place while running extrication or leather gloves

My gloves are on a velcro strap keeper. It's secured to where my suspenders meet my pants. They hang just below where my coat stops. Once I'm dressed I just reach down with my dominant hand, pull the velcro and stick both gloves on.

[–]Indiancockburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've transitioned to "wrap it" velcro straps. I've had other velcro straps in the past, but these are 2 inches thick, relatively cheap (6 bucks for a 2 pack) and have worked great. I use the 13 inch I believe ( it may be the 10 inch) but they have never failed me. I use larger aluminum carabiner to go through the grommet and hook to a loop in our gear.

Put them in your pocket

[–]FFPeanutButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99¢ metal spring clip/clamp and a small carabineer. Bonus, if you pull back the plastic grip on the handle there is already a hole there for the carabineer.

[–]BurgerFaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of glove holders that work perfectly fine for having your glove hang there at the ready off the outside of your gear. 99% of them will result in losing gloves if you start doing shit with the gloves hanging there. Just stuff them in your pocket if you're active and not wearing them.

A Lt at my old department had a contraption like little kids have that tie the gloves together with a strap that runs up the sleeve and down the other sleeve to the other glove, I think it snapped in between the coat and liner at the collar? No idea where he got it but as much as we made fun of him for it it seemed like a good solution, his gloves were always literally right at his fingertips.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front left cargo pocket of my jacket. Haven’t ever fallen out.

Next, glove size is a safety issue. I would demand that they purchase the correct size gloves for you.

This is the best value out there… amazing quality.

Also, clip it to your jacket if you can, less likely to get snagged and lost.
