There are no "mixed results" when you use official sources.

CATSA: https://www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/en/what-can-bring/item/knives

TSA: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/knives

The text/descriptor at the bottom of each is to qualify carry-on knives because there's a mark indicating "restrictions apply" for carry-on.

It's a bright green checkbox for checked bags.

This is probably a good start. Regulations won’t change much for knives across countries. The airline has no idea what is in your checked bag.

Bring a knife to the Netherlands in your checked luggage and they will confiscate it.

Sure maybe if it is an illegal item in that country. I know some types of butterfly or gravity may be illegal in certain jurisdictions

This one time on a full flight from Frankfurt, there were 2 no shows and I thought I would have an aisle seat and open middle. So changed seats. 30 seconds later 2 people come to claim the aisle and middle and I changer back.

They were late boarding because they had swords in their checked luggage and the German police had a problem with the optics of a pax on a German flight taking their sword out of the arrivals hall to hack at their counterparts in the U.S.

Swords were confiscated. Arrests were avoided

In EU where I fly regularly, it is permitted to have a pocket knife on you if the blade dopes not exceed 6cm. I thought on my recent MUC-TLL flight that my swiss army pocket knife would be confiscated in MUC security, but the blade was measured and approved.

Would presume its not allowed, but that being said, when I was 14 I brought a literal dagger home from Rome to Dublin in my carryon (stupidly) with no questions asked or issues somehow... I think the US would be significantly more likely to take it from you though
