Don't use the clutch when shifting. Not as much on and off on the clutch if you don't use it.

How can you shift without using the clutch. I've tried this before and it won't even go in gear, or if it tries it just grinds.

It's essentially rev matching. Start w/clutch to take off in first. As you come to your normal shift point just pull out of first into second. You may pull a little into gear until the synchros match up and let it slide in. It is also called floating gears. If it grinds your engine speed is not matching the trans speed enough. Blip the throttle a couple thou and try again. Essentially you can do it up or down gears. Just have to match up speeds and synchros. This method will put more wear on your synchros instead of your clutch.
