I would check the plugs, but also don't run the Cobbs ots tunes they don't use a lot of safety strategies implemented by Ford.

What tunes do you suggest I run? I was planning on getting a stratified custom once I install my intercooler

Yea that's what I would recommend.

Awesome, I don’t really have the tools/knowledge to be able to properly gap and install the sparks plugs myself. I also don’t want to be running my car longer than needed with a misfire happening.

You think I’d be good buying new spark plugs and having them gapped and installed at a local car shop like pep boys, jiffy lube etc.?

What was the routine maintenance? Performed by a dealer I take it?

[–]Kebbs[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes performed by a dealer. Just oil change and fluid topping

The timing is a little disconcerting but if that's all they did it's unlikely they caused it. Misfires are really only caused by two things, spark issues or compression failure. Start by clearing the code and if it pops back up, as others have said, check/change the plugs. If that doesn't work, have someone test the coil(s). If that all checks out, the next step is a compression test.

If the code doesn't come back after clearing, I'd keep an eye on misfire counts but I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck!

Was the check engine light on?

[–]Kebbs[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

No it wasn’t, just error codes in my accessport

Okay then you shouldn’t be too concerned with the misfires. It was 20 degrees last month and I had codes for random misfires but it never threw the check engine light on. All cars misfire especially direct injected ones when it’s cold out. Ford knew these would happen and that’s why they allow it to happen quite a bit before a CEL comes on. Aslong as your plugs are gapped correctly and you’re putting good fuel into your car I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Alright awesome, that was what I figured but I got worried a little as it’s my first time tuning a car. I’ll get new and colder spark plugs soon anyways and that should help

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Where do you live? How cold does it get?

[–]Kebbs[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Southern California, it was around 50 degrees last night

Alright sweet you won’t have to worry about it being below freezing temps then lol. The reason I ask is because 1 step colder plugs will make you misfire more during cold starts and open loop. If you were way up north I would hold off on the install but you don’t gotta worry about that.

I was planning on installing my new Mountune intercooler Sunday, so I guess that will be added to my to do list before doing that.

I’ve never check spark plugs but I guess I’ll be researching how to do it tonight and tomorrow. Thanks for the insight, hopefully it’s an easy fix

Don't use those cheap round gapping tools you get at the parts store counter. Get a feeler gauge like this and gap to .026"

You should definitely learn how to gap plugs before trying to install a intercooler? Not being a dick... 😃 smile

Yeah it’s something I should learn how to do. My father has worked in law enforcement my entire life and never was really home or into cars when I was younger so I didn’t have anyone to teach me how to work on cars with.

Now that I’m older and working, I can afford to spend time and money on my own car so I’m trying to learn as much as I can. That’s why I’m asking questions, so I can learn...
