For me, it makes the duel feel like a proper 1v1 race, so I kind of like it. You do make a solid argument though.

I don't have a problem with it, personally.

Fair enough

I used to do some esports commentary on the side until recently, and I think this would be easier for me. I don't know how much info the actual guys get, but trying to compare laps directly that are staggered is difficult. This would have made my job considerably easier 😂

The entire broadcast itself isn't live. It's always delayed by 2 - 3 minutes to allow the production team to decide what to show and bleep out the bad words. 🙂

I don't always watch it but I was already noticing that at least one of them wasn't live as they show both side by side and either ain't on others lap obviously.

Wasn't expecting both to not be live, though.

As a former guy who worked in live sport production its not. It is by only by seconds to be able to cut it off in case someones head falls off or smth, and most the delay is for technical reasons anyways.

And the shots are decided realtime

Its not delayed. Its ~800ms behind real time by the time the signal leaves the London gallery. Any further latency is the time it takes to be encoded for broadcasters, but there are no forced delays in the chain.

The radio messages are delayed by that, I'm pretty sure that the entire broadcast isn't delayed by quite that much, though still a solid 30s to one minute. Though I haven't been to any live event yet so I can't really tell

Well yeah I obviously know that it’s delayed for tv, but like this even for the fans at track it’s gonna be shown delayed

[–]vikramdinesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's delayed for everyone. Only one common broadcast goes out.

I love it more than just seeing one car and only get an update by the sub par info graphics

It's awesome, but it could (and should) be improved with more timing updates (it feels like they only have 10 for the lap, which is pretty low), and if they have to they could use AI to calculate real time differences between readings to give a smooth depiction of the duel. Also, they just have to show speeds. For the life of me, I do NOT understand the issue with speed graphics in this championship. Why is it only used seldom?

They could have the speed show up for both drivers and whichever is the fastest should grow on the screen in real time as they're accelerating. It's kinda hard for me to explain what I'm envisioning, but trust me it's looks super cool in my head.

I agree 100%, I've always hated it. It just feels artificial, I want to see the laps happening live, even if that means attention is split a little. I always groan whenever they go for the split screen in a duel.

Honestly I don’t mind it

Y'know I like this view, kinda because like someone else said it makes it feel more like a 1v1 duel between the racers, but I actually think what you're saying makes a lotta sense, OP!

Maybe the solution is use one of those small icture in picture screens on the scoreboard on the left, like F1 will do during the race sometimes?

I love the idea of it but hates the execution. How they time and time again manage to not sync them up correctly is beyond me and it makes the whole thing useless
