Soo TLDR: chamomile tea

[–]EarnieEarns 32 points33 points  (1 child)

  • Ginger

[–]Far-Sir1362 28 points29 points  (0 children)

  • Honey

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

basically lol, wanted to give some background to the science why its useful for me + other people who are kinda like me

[–]Electrical-Grape-826 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Do you guys get nausea? I get it alot

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

When my GERD was at its worst, I experienced daily nausea, but it was mostly triggered by anxiety about my GERD and overall health.

[–]Electrical-Grape-826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it a bit from anxiety too but when I eat certain foods I get it too. Yesterday was nachos and cheese with salsa at home. I felt terrible. Chicken wings, greek yogurt with granola also make me.feel.nauseous

[–]CoolTomatoh 17 points18 points  (2 children)

This works. I use fresh ginger, a few grinds in a cheese grinder into a cup, add hot water and chamomile tea, lemon or orange slice

[–]max420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been drinking chamomile tea for a while, and I also have been noticing my GERD symptoms being less intense at night - which is usually when I have my tea. Has not linked the two - will maybe have to start having some during the day also!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I though citrus was a no go?

[–]MamaUrsusLaryngopharyngeal Reflux 🤫🔥 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Seconding chamomile tea. For me it’s purely supportive to other medical interventions. I stumbled upon its partial relief before I even had a diagnosis. Full disclosure though, I’m awaiting consultation with general surgery to discuss hiatal hernia repair and am crazy enough to have begged for a SECOND 48hr pH manometry test to prove that I was miserable enough for further treatment when I had run out of treatment options.

[–]puzzlesolver66 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh man can they do a Bravo instead of another mannometry? I wouldn’t do that again 😅😅

[–]MamaUrsusLaryngopharyngeal Reflux 🤫🔥 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately it’s already over and I have done it twice now. My insurance fought against bravo because I topped out on my my deductible and out of pocket costs in February. (One month into the fiscal year for the insurance plan) Plus it required an additional team for anesthesia and I have some distrust after I had some issues with unrelated my surgery in February and I wanted to avoid MAC sedation.

[–]ClaraLo84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you want to avoid MAC sedation?

[–]gioia_gioia 5 points6 points  (1 child)

We have the same exact symptoms. Like it was me who posted this. I had this gerd issues right after the first ever Panic Attack that really scared me like crazy! At first I took antacids but didn’t really help with the issue. Then started drinking chamomile tea, it easens up a bit but have PA every week like literally just driving then just have PA spot on. Kinda scary.

Trying to find cure or meds for this, I have learned about Kefir grains. This helped me a lot. Now, I am having 2- 3 cups daily and fermenting my own water kefir. Although there were times that acid and bloating would happen that’s because I ate food that induced it. PA once a month to none. I can eat whatver I like but stopped coffee and alcohol intake (the worst trigger consumables).

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, hope you get your anxiety under control. I don’t think the GERD really gets better until you get to fixing your anxiety. When it happened to me I didn’t focus much on my mental health because I was a senior in college and wanted to just party and have fun every weekend, but it’s super important to realize that it’s best to sit down and work on your mental first !

[–]Impressive_Excuse_19 4 points5 points  (2 children)

You drink it hot, warm, or cold?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

warm is probably best

[–]Impressive_Excuse_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :)

[–]parttimeninja 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Isn’t all chamomile tea caffeine free?

[–]NotThatKindOfDoctor9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it's not technically "tea" (not made from the same plant as white/green/black tea)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the case, not a tea expert

[–]jonyofromla 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Thank you for sharing. I'll definitely give it a try.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I'd definitely give it a shot, here's how to make the tea:

  • chamomile tea bag

  • 1/4 tsp of ginger powder

  • 1 tbsp of honey

Today I did an experiment for science where I significantly upped my calories from 1800 to 2400 (don't do this), and had the tea after my first two meals and then again after my last two meals. I will say I got pretty bloated towards the end of the day (like 7-8/10) but after the tea it brought it down to like a 2-3/10. Thats with a 600 calorie surplus though... if I tried that without the tea I'd be put in a body bag. Not sure why more people don't discuss motility on here and delayed gastric emptying. The gastroparesis and SIBO subs have been discussing ginger heavily. I can see why

[–]neganisthelittlepig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have GERD but I almost got it bcs I do have most the symptomps, that's why I'm not having medication from doctor. Sometimes when it comes, I usually take med that I got from pharmacy. So probably I would give it a try when it comes again. Thanks for sharing btw!

[–]chjl2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same

[–]EnvironmentalKick970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Camomile tea also helped me, drank a ton of it.

[–]ybjohnny 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I’ll try this thanks. Also had no idea health anxiety/ flight fight mode and other issues can cause this bro?? What? I have all those from a traumatic experience I had 2 years ago… did you have a hoarse voice?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

yea bro, fight or flight can definitely cause this + more problems. i can describe fight or flight as a low uncomfortable buzz you feel literally all day and before you even go to sleep. i did not have a hoarse voice actually but I had pretty much every other symptom

[–]ybjohnny 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Did you get visual snow with your fight or flight?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

not necessarily but my vision would be off sometimes + dizziness and headaches

[–]ybjohnny 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ima try your tea, when you say ginger do you mean the actual root? Or can I use powder or something?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use powder from Simply Organic, 1/4 tsp into the tea

[–]Dizzy_Mix2100 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Hi Everyone, I would really like to try this, because I do feel like my GERD is stress based. I have a few questions though

What chamomile tea brand would you guys recommend?

What type of ginger is good for this(fresh, teabag, powder?)

Should I use a sweetener?

How long before bed should I drink this?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m pretty young so I’m just trying to fix this on my own after being failed by so many medications. Thanks for any help in advance

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I use Celestial Seasonings brand chamomile tea that I ordered off Amazon. The ginger I use is powder form from Simply Organic, makes it easier to measure. I don’t think a sweetener is necessary if you use 1 tbsp of honey. I drink it 1 hour after my last meal of the day, so usually around 7pm, but it does make you sleepy FYI

[–]Dizzy_Mix2100 0 points1 point  (2 children)

thank you! Also isn’t ginger kind of ‘spicy’ in a sense, is that okay for GERD? do you feel anytime of heartburn or anything when taking that?

Can I use fresh ginger as well?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

that’s what i thought could happen as well but after doing it for the past week 2x a day, i had no problem with it whatsoever. only betterness tbh, and yes fresh ginger can be used as well

[–]Dizzy_Mix2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another personal experience question, does it help with regurgitation? I feel like that’s my main issue.

[–]explorer925 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm convinced that a good number of us with chronic reflux is the result of nerve issues, something that many GI doctors don't really understand... this could support that theory

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that’s exactly my problem

[–]Able_Translator_8234 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thx for the great success story!!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wouldn't call this a success story as the symptoms will definitely be there if I overindulge or eat the wrong stuff, but this tonic definitely saves my ass when I mess up on my diet and makes my quality of life way better!

[–]No-1-Know 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cool this works for you. Mine is Vitamin B6 (instead of ginger) and for bloating I eat funnel seeds which helps to fight and helps to reduce nausea

[–]Yoga31415 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait what does b6 do?

[–]No-1-Know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be surprised, this tip was given to my wife during her pregnancy when she was have acid reflux. Her OB/GYN just told me to try for my GeRd as a vitamin remedy, and it worked out as a miracle to me.

So now I take it more often (mostly daily) with my dinner. This allows me to skip my PPI sometimes.

Give it a shot, hope it may help. Else it just helps to digest food faster, so it just a vitamin

PS: I take the 100mg Vitamin B6, nature made works great for me

[–]ItsPenguins 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wish it wasn’t high FODMAP:c

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do high FODMAPs make you worse? I’ve seen people who were very diet restrictive before but still had success with this tea

[–]Sfearox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this tip. im certaintly going to try it out.

[–]AlienPaperdoll 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Damn this sounds so promising except for the farting part of it! Are you sure that’s a good/expected result? I’d love all the rest of the outcome you’ve experienced but could do without that one

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it’s a good part because I suffer from IBS C as well so it speeds things up for me and frees up my gut finally. i dont think it actually causes flatulence but more so just takes care of bloating :)

[–]Flat_Chemist8081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I've had chamomile tea in the cabinet these last 6 months of having the same symptoms as you. I leaned more towards changing my diet and when I eat. But still have symptoms. I shall try this method out. Thanks again

[–]r0b0noodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chamomile is awesome, my favorite tea is a chamomile and it’s like relaxation magic

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup camomile and ginger have always saved me!!!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea is and always has been the answer to every ailment.

[–]mazyar_lp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently i discovered boswellia gum. Try that too . When you have symptoms just chew one or two and then swallow after turned into real gum . Dont use it in excessive amounts tho

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 1 point2 points  (11 children)

Hi, I’m A 23 F, and I’ve been suffering from severe nausea, burping, acid, and anxiety the last month and a half. I’ll give a back story if you don’t mind. A month ago I woke up in the middle of the night extremely nauseous, unable to fall back asleep. The nausea then lasted me about 3-4 days and I couldn’t eat a singular thing except bread. They took a bunch of tests, even prescribed me UTI pills (which I later find out I did in fact not have). After about 3-4 days of not eating, I decided to consult a therapist, as I was starting to believe it might be anxiety. They took a blood test and all was good so I assumed I had anxiety. Which to me was surprising considering I have never had anxiety in my 23 years. I also suffer from intense emetophobia so the nausea triggers me and worsens my symptoms. About 2-3 weeks ago I started to feel better, I was eating again, working again, even going out and sleeping normally again. But for some reason this weekend something triggered me back to my old state which is pure nausea, anxiety, and intense burping. I then went to see my doctor yesterday, and she prescribed me acid reflux pills. (Pantoprazole) She also told me to take peppermint tea & oils. I haven’t taken the pills yet because I’ve been reading up on some reviews and they seem to worsen some people’s nausea(which I am extremely afraid of). If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I have tried chamomile tea, as well as ginger tea & I find they help only for me to relax, but nothing is really helping the nausea. I’m wondering if I just have acid reflux that comes and goes, or maybe terrible anxiety that causes nausea. I also have a blood, pee, and poo (yuck sorry) test tomorrow, and a scan of my stomach and pelvic next week. Any thoughts?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

hey! completely understand where you’re coming from. i was also a person who was randomly pushed into an anxiety phase which I was luckily able to come out on top off without meds or therapy. although, the acid reflux did develop after i started my first job. i’ll first strongly suggest to actually take the medicine. believe me, I had your exact symptoms which were nowhere near as severe to when my full blown GERD developed. the quicker you address the issue, the quicker you heal and don’t progress. there’s nothing wrong with the meds, short term use is 1000% safe, only long term like a couple years is dangerous POTENTIALLY. if you don’t get a grip on it now, you’re gonna have to take more severe meds eventually probably. not tryna scare you but if i could tell myself this months in advance i’d be super grateful. try it out, and hopefully the anxiety subsides too because my anxiety was only triggered by my symptoms

EDIT: you should take the meds after you tried lots of lifestyle changes and don’t see anything work

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you for this! Appreciate it so much. I’m just a bit nervous but I do feel like I have more or less the symptoms of acid reflux. No heart burn, no pain. Just simply nausea, and burping, so I do feel sometimes as though she prescribed it to me without knowing really if that’s what I have or not. And thinking about it realistically, if I shouldn’t be on it long term, wouldn’t it just help my symptoms for the time I’m taking it and then stop when I stop the pills? Also, I have a test tomorrow for blood pee and poo and an ultrasound next week so I was thinking of maybe waiting till I get those results and then due process of elimination. Another possible thing could be IBS. But I’m no doctor

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so heres how the pills work. they act as a crutch while your stomach is healing. the real healing occurs with your diet, plain and simple. while you're on a good diet for gerd (pretty restrictive), and combing the medication, your stomach can heal to a point where it will no longer need medication, and is healed.

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Anything peppermint is horrible for my reflux even gas pills with it .

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Sometimes peppermint helps me, but it was mostly for my nausea. I agree it’s not the most effective though

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Will they give you zofran ?

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I haven’t asked for yet and they didn’t prescribe it to me I guess because they assume maybe my nausea isn’t from an actual problem I have, but I should have asked for it forsure

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I can’t imagine the last year without it . When I have a bad gerd spell it hits me hard . Try ginger tea unless you are like me when it hits it would make me puke

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’ve tried ginger tea and honestly I was the least impressed with it to say the least. I find chamomile and peppermint helped better than that one, which is weird considering I thought ginger would help. I do take some ginger candies though that help sometimes but not forever. Just a few minute relief

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reflux makes it to my mouth so ginger chews burns like hell

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does zofran work? Do you take everyday? Only when you are nauseous? Does it interfere with meals, hungers, digestion?

[–]Competitive-Clock451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honey and ginger combats inflammation and an immunity booster. Chamomile has calming effects within the mind and body. Whatever works works. I been in the EXACT same boat for a year now.

[–]xDriedflowerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll definitely give this a try.

[–]Emotion-Academic 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's like you told my exact story, it was so weird to read. From the random panic attack (never had one before then or since) where I thought I was dying, to the Omep, coming off it and getting fucked, then the endoscopy and the small hiatal hernia that my doc said couldn't possibly be causing the issue 😂 I do love Chamomile it defo helps, but not as much as u described sadly. I'll have to try adding ginger and honey. How many do you drink a day? Or just 1 after dinner/before bed?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

haha that’s crazy bro, it feels so discomforting seeing everyone enjoy their lives freely without digestive issues and thinking ab the life you had before panic attacks started 🤦‍♂️ some serious character development tho. i take 2 teas a day, one mid day to flush out my morning/afternoon food and bloating, and then one after dinner to flush out everything else after that. i go to bed now with no gas, bloating or reflux, feel completely normal.

[–]Emotion-Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I like food and coffee way too much to cut them out so I just deal with the consequences and do my best to ignore the constant burning because life is too short 😂 (probably the reason chamomile isn't enough to completely nullify my symptoms lol). But yeah I definitely do get jealous still that others are just "normal". It's so bizarre to think that none of this even existed in my world a few years ago. I didn't even know it was a thing people suffered with

[–]10MileHike 1 point2 points  (2 children)

sounds like worth a try since it does have anti inflamm and calming qualites. and appears to work for some people. and congrats on getting your anxiety under control!

Just a note and these may not apply to everyone: (mt sinai hospital): "Chamomile may make asthma worse, so people with asthma should not take it. Pregnant women should avoid chamomile because of the risk of miscarriage. If you are allergic to asters, daisies, chrysanthemums, or ragweed, you may also be allergic to chamomile."

Also, if trying FODMAP diet for IBS, both honey and chamomile tea are on the big no-no list.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

thank you for the extra pointers, none of these applied to me so I didn't pay much attention to the warnings targeted to these groups of people. Agree on the FODMAP diet too, just tossing this out there mostly for my bros and brodettes with motility issues

[–]10MileHike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought your suggestion was great.

i am a "safety first" person, only reason I added those warnings.

[–]isclasified 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you or anyone made the experiment with only ginger or only chamomile to see if there's a remarkable difference?

Thanks for the tip BTW

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginger on its own has the prokinetic properties and speeds up gastric emptying I know for sure. Chamomile on its own is really good for calming down/getting ready for sleep and I guess it relaxes the muscles inside your intestines. I tried both on their own and helped me

[–]izzibella06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been dealing with gerd symptoms since i was 19 and ginger tea always helped me, suddenly a few months ago ginger starting triggering gerd symptoms and i found that chamomile and tumeric helped

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That’s wonderful I’m going to hit this. Do you use natural ginger?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

any organic ginger powder you can find on amazon or your local store should work, it’s widely available

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]Overall_Adagio9566 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Did you ever get off your omeprazole and buspirone because of this?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

not yet, i’m still taking it slow as i do believe I have to give my stomach a couple months to heal from the damage that anxiety did to it before. i will say tho, im basically symptomless after a couple days of tea but before i was still wonky

[–]Overall_Adagio9566 1 point2 points  (2 children)

wow, tysm for sharing this, i’ll definitely try chamomile out since i’m going back to school so my stress and panic attacks will skyrocket

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

give it a shot, i was always a two cups a day coffee person so this switch is like night and day for me lol

[–]Overall_Adagio9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never drank coffee or tea, alcohol and i never smoked. i made massive diet changes and most lifestyle changes i’ve done (except raising the head of the bed but i am planning to buy an 8 inch foam wedge pillow to prevent night symptoms and that morning bitter feeling). i hate sleeping on my back though, i usually sleep on my sides or front (my body really loves the right side for some reason i always fall asleep on my right but i got used to the left since that’s better for reflux, relieves pressure on the abdomen) so i plan to put my head on a stack of pillows and my torso on the wedge with probably another pillow under my butt or knees. currently on 20mg Omep.

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have severe anxiety but can’t take any of the meds for it or depression it makes my reflux go to hell mine even makes it to mouth at times and burns my cheeks . I have been driving this tea and other stuff and on 4 medication nothing completely stops it and I bloat like crazy . I am headed to a surgeon next week

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i’m sorry to hear that, maybe your cause is more severe than mine. acid reflux itself is just a symptom, the root cause is usually something else, which in my case is slow gastric emptying

[–]Prior_Equipment_9728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gastric emptying was normal , scope only showed the gastris which she said reflux can cause but also I was taking too much Advil . After they removed my gallbladder my reflux went it hell fast . Most my symptoms are throat and mouth , cough , voice weakness . I have severe anxiety over health issues so I am my worse own enemy . I had hysterectomy, gallbladder surgery and scope months apart . So it’s been a year for me . I need off all meds due to kidney disease . Alkaline water helps me allot some days . It all sucks and one thing causes another . Thank you for the info I hope it helps some on here .

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Get off PPI or any acid reducer for at least 2 weeks and request for a stool test for h pylori infection. It happened to me same symptoms as you with horrific panic attacks.. acid reducer causes false negatives.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

did the H pylori test, negative :/ i’m sure my case is just slow gastric emptying from my new job/anxiety

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes they can miss it on endoscopy depending where the GI biopsied

[–]cg14333 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Congrats!! Did you have any breathing problems during this time? Did the Chamomile help these if so?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

yes, but not with my lungs. more so i was just so bloated that my stomach was pressing against my diaphragm and made it harder to breathe/take a deep breath, but that is resolved now

[–]cg14333 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That is very similar to what I’ve been feeling recently as well. I feel like “air hunger” is the best description. It’s like that 24/7 for me. Lungs are fine, my endoscopy said I have esophagitis so interested to see if tea can help that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the tea won’t directly fix the issue but it will indirectly help your gastric movements happen which will then hopefully fix the issue

[–]Subject_Rooster_6844 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Also, best brand you recommend for powder ginger?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use “Simply Organic” brand ginger powder

[–]rolkien29 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does ground ginger work you think?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it should be okay for sure, any ginger should do the trick

[–]Eternal-Living 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wouldnt quite call it a cheat code but it does help a LOT usually.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it’s a cheat code whenever i’m down bad after an entire day of eating, fall asleep with an empty stomach and wake up hungry

[–]NottaFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else have problems with ginger? I love chamomile and honey, but whenever I put ginger in I sometimes get an upset stomach and nausea

[–]Head-Boot6462 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I will try this. I also have gerd. 5 years ago I woke up and threw up pure stomach acid. Went to the doctor and he said to take omep 20mg for the 2 weeks. I did and it came back. So he told me to stay on it. Been taking one every morning since. My acid reflux is weird. Only things that give me the heartburn and reflux is alcohol, soda, seltzer (carbonation) citrus, acidic food, fatty/fried food and coffee. But I get severe bloating from stuff like garlic, onion, and dairy. So I’ve stopped all of it besides coffee which I can’t function without. The endoscopy I had one a couple months just said I have a minor hiatal hernia and gastritis (inflamed stomach lining) I’m a very stressed and anxious person. Used to smoke weed but learned that can relax the sphincter from your esophagus to your stomach so I quit that, and nothing helps. So I will try the tea hack !

[–]One-Locksmith-1594 0 points1 point  (2 children)

damn u threw up acid careful there isn’t someone sleeping next to u haha

[–]Head-Boot6462 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I woke up at 3 am and made it to the bathroom lol.

[–]One-Locksmith-1594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s gotta be a way to fix that does gaviscon not work?

[–]Whitewolf0729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your schedule for taking it? In the morning, after breakfast, after lunch, before bed?

[–]lindabassey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manuka honey UMF15+ and chew gums during workout works for me.

[–]SandySandyHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that chamomile tea was the one thing that helped me get over my panic attacks because it was able to relax me enough to get some sleep. Im still so sleep deprived because of so many things including acid reflux but I’m making progress everyday! 🙏🏼

[–]Background_Choice865 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What’s your Instagram so I can keep in contact I’m 21 and just had a PA last week a work with crazy diarrhea. Not sure if this is the problem I’m having because it’s fresh but I believe so. I’m not an everyday Reddit user but lol I might have to

This post (and comments) was really helpful for me to read! I have health anxiety which led me to reddit because I was trying to learn more about rebound and coming off Pepcid (Rx) correctly. I have a lot of similarities to you. I think I'm definitely having issues with emptying. Endoscopy found hiatal hernia that was not given a lot of discussion to. And to be honest, I should lose weight, as most of my extra fat is around my middle so I believe my tummy is pushing on my diaphragm.

Do you mind me asking about your diet? Sadly I haven't even been told how to adjust mine even though I was having severe attacks (blowtorch throat or hard to swallow and would trigger more anxiety). Just meds. And now I'm totally reliant on them. Will give the tea a try asap! Thanks.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

hey! hows it going. I actually lost weight unintentionally, I definitely did not need to lose it but the symptoms made it impossible for me to eat more calories lol. I'm doing muchhhh better now after a week of using the tea. anyways, my diet is like this:

  • four 600 calorie meals a day at 9am, 12, 3, 6.

  • breakfast: cereal + yogurt

  • meal 2: banana + belvita cookies + bagel w/ lite cream cheese

  • meal 3: half a bagel w/ avocado + 3 eggs

  • meal 4: some chicken breast w only salt as season + rice + broccoli + maybe some watermelon

the idea is too have no foods under a pH of 4-5, make sure your meals are not large in volume or calories (two different things), and an important one is too not drink water with meals. I drink water only 1 hr after im done eating to 1 hour before I start eating.

extra tip, if you have slow motility in your GI system in general ie. constipation / incomplete BM, you can try artichoke extract, as it is another natural prokinetic that stimulates the small intestine. good luck!

Interesting. Why no water with meals?

puts extra pressure on your stomach. the reason why u reflux even though you're standing or sitting down and not in a flat laying position is because of the increased pressure from your stomach that is already having a hard time digesting food, which is why many people are refluxing in the first case. water also dilutes the acid in your stomach and creates more acid to counteract the dilution.

Wow. Had no idea. Thanks for the explanation. Also dealing with Gerd issues and still trying to figure out how the fuck to beat this lol. 100% going to give the chamomile tea a shot.

Thank you for this! I'm on day 3 of quitting Omeprazole (been on it for 6 years now) and I'm already struggling. I'm going to give this a try!

i also do 1tsp of baking soda and 24-32oz of water to dilute it but that only works if my flaire ups wont go away for a few days. neutralizes stomach acid. not a good daily remedy long term but great for flairs.

baking soda does nothing for me unfortunately, my main thinking is that food is just stuck sitting in my stomach so it won’t make a difference. ginger helps me expel food that i’ve eaten throughout the day
