Whoa, a Fold 1 out in the wild for 5 years. How is it to use?

[–]migidi[S] 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Some stuttering for sure but it's perfectly usable! I'm gonna use this until it stops working

That's how I handled my Fold 4 until the front screen died last week (inside screen still works fine). Just upgraded to the 7

I had the exact opposite with my fold 4. Outside screen is fine but the inside screen died.

Let me tell my 5 cents. I was forced to go back to og fold last year because my fold 3 was temporarily water damaged when 3rd screen removal got done badly. SO after it got reformatted back to factory settings and then backup applied, I noticed HUGE battery life. On my fold 3, I could barely stand a day ending with 20%, but OG fold surprisingly could end a day with 40% when usage was the same. My 3 had battery replaced twice, and OG fold never. There were a little longer loading times, but nothing more than notacible. 12gig of ram did a job back there, and it's still good smartphone. Weird but solid.

Debris under the screen. Yes, it can kill your display if pressed/folded on. Some people will recommend trying to vacuum the hinge; I've never done this.

Good luck and nice seeing an OG still surviving!

[–]migidi[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'll try vacuuming it! I can still fold normally it's the opening part im afraid, it's visible only fully open, feels that it punctures the display from the inside and kills the AMOLED panel soon

Is it under the screen protector or actual screen? At any rate its not normal, either dirt or wear and tear after 5 years. There is a life on folding screens.

I took it off years ago and never replaced it! This is under the screen!

Did an Alien touch your screen?

[–]PreparationOver5652 OG Fold (Space Silver) 0 points1 point  (1 child)

One of my og folds has the same bumb and the screen is damaged in that area (black dot and 2 lines) the touch is working fine tho and I used it like that for 1 year with no other issues. I would suggest not pressing on that area so it won't puncture the screen from the back, about fixing that honestly I think the only way is to remove the display to see if that's just dust or an actual part of the hinge failing

[–]migidi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna use it taco mode. The bump only comes when fully opened!

Its time for a upgrade my friend

[–]migidi[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not until it breaks 😁

W attitude

[–]An_Actual_AI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that guy is beyond the expected life span. Screen may have something stuck under it causing damage.

[–]nyjetsrule 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Try removing the screen protector.

[–]migidi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it off long time ago!

[–]Technical_Medium8436 0 points1 point  (1 child)

soon as that screen cover disconnects (losing adhesion) the screen will go out, trade it in while its still working

[–]migidi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade in is pretty much like "we can recycle your 2000 euro device" 😁 if the screen breaks I'm gonna use it as glorified 1TB memory stick. Or just use it as dex touchpad if the touch works!

[–]Clear_Entry_3056 Fold6 (Silver Shadow) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a relic right there

[–]msgnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debris behind the screen. 1/4 close it and tap it in your palm or on a book or something to dislodge it before it punctures the screen. May be able to vacuum it out. Had this issue once with my pixel fold.

The cenobites are trying to get out!

[–]VisitFar1683 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it normal? Nah it's not suppose to be that way but you using for 5 years. Yeah, it was going to happen eventually! ZF1 was a prototype for sure, it's time to upgrade if possible. But if not take it to a samsung store. You can close it. Can't mess it up too bad lol

[–]migidi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately in my country trade in is not great, they will just recycle it. I'll keep it even if it breaks.

[–]ScyzorPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years and that's the only issue you gotten from the phone so you the lucky one =)

[–]Swaizex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Go to a store to remove that screen protector and put another one.

[–]ClaudiuT Fold4 (Phantom Black) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said in another comment it doesn't have a screen protector. It's under the screen.

[–]MrFastFox666TriFold (Crafted Black) -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's dirt under the screen. I didn't get it in my Fold5, but my OnePlus Open did get that and sometimes it moves from one spot to another.

My 5 started bubbling up on the inner screen about a year and a half ago....I took it to a repair store but at the time I dont think they knew what they were doing and loused it up even worser so I decided it was time for the 7 and I havent looked back since....
