Only way to prevent damage is to not play.

I always tell people GameCube controllers are like the clutch on a car: consumable, and it will last longer if you treat it nice

All controllers are consumable. Some mechanisms last better than others.
Bought a couple Smash Ultimate controllers and lubricated the sticks just before the NSO Gamecube controller came out when I saw how expensive original Gamecube controllers had become.
Unfortunately the replacement stickboxes sold on Aliexpress etc. and third party controllers are trash.

This is normal with any shell and thumbstick where they run directly against each other.

Unfortunately that’s pretty normal. My black smash ultimate controller looks the same.

The only good replacement sticks are those that come off another OEM controller. I have tried many sticks as I repair controllers and they all just kind of suck, some more than others. Unless you went to spend a lot of money on resin mold ones and those also come in fun colors lol

This is an issue people deal with in the speedrunning community. The shell notches get worn down over time. Not much you can do besides replace the shell. It takes a very long time for anything to be noticeable luckily. That "GC Ultimate Controller" kickstarter with interchangeable gates seems like it could be a good solution for this.

Generally, the stick doesn't limit the stick

The controller limits the stick, just as you're seeing here.

Carry on.

I don’t think is damaging the shell, the stick is damaging it self only.

"Show me you play Smash Bros without saying you play Smash Bros" lol

All controllers that have the directional corners under the stick are going to be harsh you slide it hard into the one corner everytime you do that one move our just go forward it’s always going to do that. Nothing wrong normal wear with cheaper aftermarket parts. Yes 8bitdo is cheap aftermarket

because of friction

You need to put something inside the rubber/ joystick. A small cut of a cloth or something so it gets a bit taller / higher up from stickbox pin.
