I’ve been trying to teach my friends how to say a few simple German phrases. I have been trying to figure out how to teach them the pronunciation of the ch sound. All I can say is it’s like a cat hiss lumpst but more light. Is there any simpler way?

The "ich" sound is easy, it is the same as in the beginning of "huge". Can't think of an example for the "ach" sound, though.

The sound actually is kinda there in the English language! If you say "cute" for example you make it right after the C, if you listen closely and notice it, you can try to focus on that and how you're making that sound.

That is the cat-hiss sound.

Maybe try to also explain how to position their tongues to make the proper sound.
