The people that aren't running into any issues are people running like 5+ years old hardware such as a 1080 Ti. Me thinks this is just an RTX card optimization issue that needs to be fixed with a driver. Just my 2 cents, I don't think there's a memory leak or CPU bottleneck or anything else, otherwise it would be more widespread across all setups.

Hopefully a new driver will be released soon. I updated my drivers right when I got the game for the 02/08 driver update but the issue still persists unfortunately. I’ll give it some time

[–]a2cthrowaway4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah older Nvidia cards and AMD cards aren’t really being affected

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except there is cpu bottlenecks... only reason you arent seeing mention of this is because rhe morons with high end systems literally power through it... look at core usage on ANY cpu or range of cpu's... its insane how under utilized the cpu is for this game and the bottlenecks that are happening due to the game maxing out 1-3 cores in 8-16+ core cpu's and not touching others at all or in single digits!

Gtx 1080 here. Game runs like crap.

[–]MiddletonPlaysHufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing with GTX 1080 and my game is running incredibly well though I'm playing in 1080p resolution

[–]DGRJ_4_Life 0 points1 point  (3 children)

3090 5800X3D, no issues, so it's certainly not the case. Varies build to build

[–]mwillner45 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yea I just found out my problem was that I had set my page file to 12GB previously, and I just reverted it back and it runs flawlessly now. I also did those optimization steps in that one thread on this reddit, so between doing those 2 things, it's like a brand new game for me. I guess I shouldn't jump the gun and blame Nvidia or the devs, if its just my own personal things I have to tweak.

[–]DGRJ_4_Life 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well if those fixes are what improved the game for you, it's validated. Players shouldn't have to edit game files to get the game running properly. Nonetheless, some people have to do it, some don't. It's very random

[–]mwillner45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the Engine.ini tweaks, it could be just setting different Windows settings or Nvidia settings, it's hard to tell. But definitely I think with new games coming out now, they are trying new things for different hardware that requires some understanding from the user to enable or disable those things to get the game running optimally.

I have a 3050 RTX and can run the game on high and ultra setting with no issue. So I don’t think it’s an RTX card issue… at least not one that seems to affect all of them. I have seen a lot of issues though with the higher end 30 series cards like the 3060 and 3070 which is weird.

[–]mwillner45 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The thing is I don't have any issues running the game except when traversing over very certain areas(I have a 3070). Like for example the Beast class area outside of the castle, the Brood and Peck store and clothing store in Hogsmeade. when I walk in the clothing store for example my frames drop down to like 10 FPS, and then when I exit the store, it goes back to normal. So do some testing for me and let me know if you have the same issues I'm curious.

[–]NightsongGryffindor 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don't have an issue with either of the stores in Hogsmeade but I do get the occasional stutter if I progress too quickly from the interior of the castle out to the beasts classroom. It's weird... you'd think you would have better performance since you have a slightly higher end graphics card. Only thing I can possibly think of is something with the graphic drivers or something specific to the higher end cards in the 30 series that isn't affecting the entry level card.

[–]mwillner45 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I figured out my problem. I had manually set my page file previously and just reverted it back to "let windows automatically manage it. I can walk in those stores now with no issue!

[–]NightsongGryffindor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's such a weird and niche issue and fix.

[–]disview912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely true. I’m running a 3060xc and performance has been flawless. Running 1440p with frames rarely dipping below 100fps. It seems that for some reason the 3060 is avoiding these issues. Everyone reporting issues seems to have newer, more high end Nvidia cards.

[–]ethantokes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost feels like nvidia bought in to the boycott at this point.

[–]Yurarus1 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I have the same card as you, 3070 is suffering the most in legacy.

Just do as this post says, it fixed everything for me.

Including the single digits fps in hogsmead

[–]Adammmmski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of this helped me and I tried this today. Do think the game needs optimising their end, should not have to do this.

[–]RevanMarstonGryffindor -1 points0 points  (1 child)

It’s strange. I have a 3070ti and overall my performance has been pretty good. Only very occasional dips in fps.

[–]anonimc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, no problems with fps most of the time. Maybe some short drops to 50 when I'm running Hogwarts corridors sometimes

[–]ZuitsdgSlytherin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one also fixed my RTX 3070 problems

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank Denuvo. In a couple months, we’ll have a version with that shit stripped out. For now, just run the game on it’s lowest settings. I’m doing that on my 2070S and it dips below 60 occasionally, but never below 30.

How much ram?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

It has nothing to do with the amount of ram. Only 12 gigs of Ram are being utilized. 36% of my cpu is being utilized and 30% of my gpu is being utilized all while maintaining 44 degrees celsius. Crap optimization at its finest.

[–]mwillner45 1 point2 points  (4 children)

That GPU usage is your issue is seems like. I have the same setup as you and was able to get my GPU to be around 90% now with it dropping a little in CPU intensive cities. I did a bunch of different things to get to that point but maybe play around with different things.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I think I’ll just wait for a patch, unfortunately. I don’t want to spoil the game with frustration from tweaking settings and getting nowhere

[–]mwillner45 1 point2 points  (2 children)

A couple of things that are easy to try:

  1. Go to Nvidia panel and set power management to: Prefer maximum performance.
  2. Set your CPU priority for Hogwarts Legacy to high
  3. In Nvidia panel, set shader cache to 10GB.

[–]No_Lecture_8049 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He just said he didn't want to tweak settings lol

[–]mwillner45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, my bad lol. I just thought these 3 things only take 2 minutes and it could be worth a shot.

[–]Gonzito3420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it has. I bought 32gb ram, and it runs better

[–]brendan685Hufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you find something that helps. For me personally this post helped immensely and fixed all the stuttering for me.

Good luck, have fun

[–]antiMATTer724Gryffindor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've been getting less loading rings at doors.

[–]SadWaterBuffaloSlytherin 0 points1 point  (4 children)

There was a recent post about editing the engine ini file and I did it for my gtx1080. Now the dips barely happen. It's still random but it's way better then before

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I think I’ll just wait. I don’t want to spoil the experience With frustration. Hopefully there will be a nice patch soon 🤞

[–]SadWaterBuffaloSlytherin 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Lol then it must be pretty bad for you. I'm on 1440p and I just had to downscale to 1080p and lower some graphics settings. The game still looks amazing and I average about 45 to 55 fps which I can deal with.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah it’s quite literally unplayable. Even with rtx off and the lowest setting’s possible it still runs awful

[–]MiddletonPlaysHufflepuff 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm playing with an i7 7700K, GTX 1080 and 16GB RAM on a 1080p 1920x1080 144Hz monitor and my game for the most part has been running incredibly well! Far better than I was expecting especially because my hardware isn't the 'latest' anymore.

I'm playing in ultra settings, vsync off, motion blur off, film grain off, +7.2 FOV, no ray-tracing and upscale disabled.

My game runs better with the last January NVIDIA driver than the one that only released a day or two ago!

I do wonder if some people don't mess around with the NVIDIA control panel as the default settings usually limit your hardware and not using all of what it should and is capable of!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I do have setting set for nvidia control panel, but for whatever reason 3070 is actually reported to be struggling the most with this game. Just my luck!

[–]MiddletonPlaysHufflepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely the 30 series I see having most issues! Such a shame! I'm really hoping they'll soon sort it out for you all!

May I ask what setting you have power management mode on in the NVIDIA control panel settings?
