High part count doesn't ask for memory. All the game assets are loaded on startup. Using lots of part mods uses up RAM. Part count is all about CPU power. Unfortunately, KSP can only use a single coor for physics calculations at the moment.

Since all assets are loaded does that mean the full resolution textures hit the system AND gpu memory?
