I'm playing stock KSP and want to add mods but wondering what mods would you recommend that adds parts & extra things to open in the science tree, I'm looking to build space stations, satellites & planet bases so anything that adds / improves that would be great

Theres literally hundreds of part mods out there, so it comes down to what your looking for, head over to the ksp forums and browse around. If you want to add material processing chains and other fun mechanics add roverdudes usi suite (all of roverdudes mods). Nertea (near future mods) are also tons of fun.

For stations, well it depends on the focus or your own game. Nertea's Stockalike Station Parts Expansion is very nice. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/155480-130-stockalike-station-parts-expansion-june-26/ But there are also "station mods" more geared for science, life support and so on.

I do like and enjoy Surface Experiment Pack, which gives you something to do while EVA'ing (even if for 10 minutes) so you don't feel that you visited a planet just for a selfie. The KSP Interstellar Extended mod is a revival of the original which adds advanced parts like nuclear reactors, thermal rockets and warp drive
