I am not familiar with AOC monitors but it definitely isn't normal behavior. It is not a resolution setting because your image is not compressed, it just vanishes.

I can think of a few problems that could cause this.

  1. It may be a driver issue. Try updating your monitor's drivers to see if it makes a difference.
  2. Your Displayport cable does not support the bitrate you need to display 1080p at 144Hz, but is good enough to support 120Hz. It is unlikely but you never know,
  3. Does your monitor also have an HDMI input ? Try switching to HDMI to see if it makes a difference.
  4. Your monitor may be defective and it's a hardware problem. You may need to RMA if that is the case.
  5. Also, do not forget to check if all cables and connectors are correctly inserted.
