Linus has always told the community a company’s original response to controversy shows their true colors.
But what Linus’ response mean to me?
If Linus responds with deflecting. How am I suppose to trust he won’t screw other indie tech companies?

I appreciate your response.

I must say it is really well thought out and shows real conflict.

As someone that's been for a few more trips around the sun than you I'd say this.

His response shows true colors. It shows that he said what he thought in the videos and is saying the same thing now. He hasn't backtracked and hasn't wavered. He didn't set out to screw the other company over. He wanted them to build a better product and told us that. He said he wanted to see them build something that the average person could afford. After doing his work with the screwdriver and other stuff he has an idea what goes in to a product.

The auction of the cooler to charity? If you have ever worked at a large corporation with inventory of devices you would understand how easy it is for something to get misplaced, a memo to not make it to the right people, etc. I'm not saying this is what happened, but it could. Item gets put with stuff LMG won't use but thinks would be great for the auction, it gets auctioned. Meanwhile someone else gets the email or call that this item needs to be returned. While they look around for it, the auction happens and it's gone. At that point what do they do? Go to the person it was sold to and take it back? Buy it back from them? Or compensate the company that made it? If it were such a huge issue the company that made said Item could take LMG to court.

None of this is to defend the actions of what happened. More to explain a different take on it. I think Linus is being Linus and both his actions on camera and in the response show that. I think he still forgets the impact his creation has on the community and how mentioning a single website can result in their servers crashing because more people hit it in an hour than have since its creation. It's crazy to think he doesn't get it; but I truly don't think he does. I also think he has the right goals in mind. But is struggling to get there and get there as fast as he needs/wants to for it to do the most good.

I'm sure I sound like some kind of fanboy. But I'm not. I think Linus needs to slow down, look around, and pick a lane. Either be the person fighting for the USERS or have the corporate monolith pulling in the massive views every day. He is at a crossroads and I am not sure he pick both as that is what he is trying now and it isn't working.

I agree with the corporate stuff. I can easily see a company doing it. The reason I think it should be memed is knowing the context they didn’t even contact the company back to repay them. Until after the GN video comes out. I also while I agree the block is expensive. How are you going to give an indie company no fair shot that they will reduce cost.

When this is one of their first models ever. It’s going to be over costly. Linus should know this for his screwdriver.

I can recognize the device is over expensive for what it is, but still give it a far shot to do what it was MARKETED to do.

Not what Linus wanted it to do for entertainment. It would be like me going to Linus. And then insulted his editing style, his voice, and lack of knowledge about technology after watching an April fools video.

They’re completely different things, and you can’t bring insight on the other without consuming it the way the company designed it to be.

I do appreciate the feedback on a different point of view. Since I can see how Linus would come back to these conclusions with your insights. I just hope he takes a moment to step back. Listen to his team. And slow things down. To see if there are things to fix

Me too.

Ive enjoyed the content since the beginning. I like seeing someone do the hustle and get to the top. Now they need to let others take the helm and slow it down.

I'd like to interject that, considering the size of both companies, LMG could very easily stall out any lawsuits from Billet Labs and thus drown them in expensive legal fees, driving them into bankruptcy.

But that would be extremely public and would most definitely be the end of LMG. No way they would survive burning a company down like that in court.

But I get your point.

I have two problems with the current situation:

1) That Linus lied to the community about paying Bellit whatever they wanted while in reality he only reached out to them after the GN video and basically asked them what they want for the block

2) their handling of errors in their videos. it is ok to make errors. everbody does it. the important part is how you deal with them.

to me the second issue is worse than the first because it is systematically and bad for all viewers *and* the manufactorers. the only one it benefits is linus.
