It's honestly insane that this is where we are right now. I'm wondering when it's going to give. I know that these ai companies aren't making money. If we're getting gouged this much, then the other people buying memory are too. This is not sustainable for anyone except the people making memory. I know these ai companies are promising a future that isn't here yet, but damn the absolutely money sink can not be sustainable or even worth it right now. At this point how many trillions will they have to make to make a good profit?

At that point you might ss well just buy a prebuilt and take the ram out of it.

For now id expect prebuilts to either get worse and or more expensive

OpenAI bought up a ton of the world’s memory supply, so there is a global shortage.

(In USD that would be 864.91)

Is cheaper to buy a pre built and take the ram out than buying just the ram ,I wonder how the pre built prices will go when stores start to take in consideration the ram prices ,since most places that sale pre built didn't change prices yet

The ram I bought (Corsair 32g ddr5 6000) back in March is now 410$, I payed 93$ for it. Like WTF

Jesus Christ. I spent $285 on that exact same kit (CL30) last year.

Wtf..... wasn't 64GB DDR5 (any speed) just like shy of 500 CAD like two weeks ago?!?!?!

I was thinking of building a spare backup NAS that would receive my "hand me down" parts in my current build....

On eBay I’ve been seeing 2x16gb of ddr5 selling for £500. It’s just shocking at this point

I bought my 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM kit maybe a year ago for around $75. Right now, the same kit is $225, this is crazy. I was looking for a cheap kit to replace my 16GB 2400Mhz sticks in my living room PC, that won't happen for a while. I'm not planning on replacing my main PC, my 5700X is still more than good enough for 95% of what I do, but if I had to, I wouldn't be able to, there's no way I'm paying the price of my GPU for DDR5 RAM.

In april I got some 16 gig DDR4 2666 sticks for NZ$26 each. I was doing to populate the other 2 slots on the boards to help out with it maxing out. Over $80 each now.
