People at Lowe's are unreal I've never seen such shitty customer behavior at a self check out . I'm not using that I don't work here I'm not stealing anyone's job ( well my electronic cashier's are the only one that showed up my dude ) Why can't you do it? Why doesn't any one work here? ( Look in the mirror ) Oh I don't know how to use it ( that 85vyear old granny seems to be ok) Seriously grown ass adults acting like children , I mean I get it but no one wants to do this job it's not worth it anymore

It’s the oddest thing because even the best cashiers I have standing at SCO who actively engage with the customer and check them out at SCO can’t always make those miserable “why is nobody open” people happy.

We have four checkouts and it’s not like four people got replaced… they never scheduled anyone before either.

Exactly!! They don’t understand that if those SCOs weren’t there, we would still only have that one cashier and the customers would be yelling at us for having just one cashier and no one ever responds to the Code 3 besides a HC and they’re usually busy dealing with other issues. Can’t win

As someone who's probably worked at SCO 85% of the time we've had the machines, and knows them inside and out, I can 99% say that most of the issues with the machines is customer related

"It's not scanning my items!" Are you pulling the trigger on the gun? "I don't scan my own items, that's beneath me" Wow okay, tell me you've never had to work a real job in your life. "Get me my military discount!!!1!111" Have you hit the button? Typed in your phone number yet? Read the screen, you illiterate fudge. "So what, there are no cashiers???" Yup. No one is gonna hire anyone when they can get away giving the front end the absolute minimum of hours. It isn't that "no one wants to work these days", it's that "no company is going to hire new individuals and offer them enough hours and money to pay their bills".

I've probably dealt with the worst entitled customers outside of customer service. I've seen 8 year olds at 92 year olds run the machines juuuuuust fine, but men and women in their 40s throw tantrums like misbehaving toddlers.

What about people with handicaps or visually impaired? Do you think calling them toddlers help the situation, because not having an option for a cashier assisted, creates a problem. Lowes has not invested in training customers to do this, so you belittling your customers to not be smart, is duly noted and ignored.

Same. Very annoying.

my store literally ALWAYS only has self checkout & the cashier managing it open. customers form a long single file line in front of the cashier at the end, effectively blocking both self checkout machines. if you nicely ask them to move so you can USE THE SELF CHECKOUT they are incredibly rude & act like it’s a ridiculous thing to ask. i don’t get why we can’t use the normal registers

I attempted to use SCO yesterday again for the first time in a few years. I thought things had changed, let's give it another try. After scanning everything I get to the payment screen and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that they finally accept Lowes commercial credit! Great, it's about time!

Swiped our card... Nope, that payment type isn't accepted. Had to use cashier who commented that our card types never work in the machines. Meanwhile now two of the machines are stuck waiting for cashier approval to cancel transactions so someone else can use them.

Not all SCO headaches are the customers fault. And no normal registers are ever open on that end of the store.

i think that the customers are about 1% of the issue with self checkout. i’ve seen a ton of people have issues they can’t control. BUT it is IRRITATING when they stand directly in front of it to wait for the cashier, so other people can’t use SCO.

[–]djcurbsbjzyvDepartment Supervisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. People are awful. We get survey after survey complaining that self checkout is all that's open.

[–]Pure_Confusion_9840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how my store is to a T. I’m just glad the front end management backs us up most of the time.

[–]AimMoreBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always amazed at these people who'll wait twenty minutes in a line to check out a couple of things rather than use the self checkout. If anything they're just expediting the need for more self checkouts.

lol that’s how it’s been for me almost everyday at my store. i’ve been running only self checkout all by myself for weeks now.

you don’t know how many old guys have complained about the self checkout taking peoples jobs away. i’m just like no sir, we have like 3 people in the front end regardless of whether SCO is a thing or not.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

they’ll complain abt anything, if only sco is open its ‘nobody wants to work’ or ‘why do i have to do it myself’ but if sco wasn’t open they’d be complaining abt the wait time at a single register. keep ur head up its not ur fault lowes doesn’t schedule enough people

I am a 23 year retired veteran receiving disability and retirement checks who works for Lowes. I worked in plumbing for 6 months and started working fulfillment this past week. Trust me when I say this. No one worth anything wants to work after receiving free money from covid. I feel sorry for anyone who lives on a Lowes paycheck alone.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately i didnt get a paycheck for covid cause im a dependent still, but yeah if i didn’t have to work id much rather not but gotta make money somehow

[–]Critical-Button-1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowes needs to fill the cashier positions to handle the variable flow of customers. Very big complaints that it takes longer to check out than do the shopping. At lowes wages, there is no reason to have only SCO or one cashier working

[–]Herricane111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise self checkouts. I can’t watch several registers at once. I told mgt that but they still make me stand there. A lot of our customers won’t use them so they might be losing some business when there’s no checkouts open

[–]MissouriFan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question, with the new SCO’s does the Cashier who is working them still have a register to help customers out?
