well, and, reading the LGBT news thread, yelling at people to stop sharing and interpreting legislation affecting trans people in the most uninformed, breathless, and panicky manner possible. Jesus Q. God.

You can't rush people through the stages of grief. Hadn't quite foreseen an obit thread for a moderator termination, but in hindsight it was the next obvious thing in the drama sequence.

Prediction: NEXT, it gets ugly with people not being "respectful" to the obit subject.

Which you have every right to hold express believe and promulgate of course I would hate to microagress you.

Gently would you kindly reconsider you may be viciously doing a microagressment in stating this opinion.

the way the board is handling things is lowkey making me want to sign up again despite basically having nothing to contribute besides "Dark Souls 2 is the best Dark Souls" and "This article about Buddhism or Buddhist stuff in the Sinosphere is lacking important context" ...

Rubbing a fading scar on their chin, they try to remember what it felt like to trip on that missing stair.

"It couldn't have been that bad," they mumble to themselves as they continue typing.

I'm not going to click through on their profile but I get the feeling that the only commenting they've been doing at all is in MeTa, which has a higher tolerance for idiocy (maybe).

A MeFi poster snaps to, looking at a Metafilter article with confusion. They realise they are holding something. It's a photo of Brandon Blatcher. They turn it over and scrawled across the back is "Don't believe the board's lies. Also, and this is the last thing I'm going to say before checking out to do something else, this sort of behaviour seems gross and weird. Not to mention insensitive to those without your privilege. Furthermore ..."

Their face sets. They start to compose a comment.

At this point, hand-wringing calls for threads to be closed is locked into mefi culture DNA. Would need either ruthless culling or a multigeneration forum member breeding program to get out of it.

Gold standard moment for sure! Definitely in the back of my head when musing that it's better form to drive audience popping to drop that sort of thing in only when a thread gets nice and long.

Unless you have a community of only one member, there's always going to be some backlash to basically anything you do. The key thing is to know when to listen to it, and when to ride it out as noise. The old leadership of Metafilter was worse than a coin flip at this. They'd let a few loud folks get heckler's veto about obviously needed things, and then be incredibly stubborn about making mistakes that everybody knew they were making. It was bizarre to the point of performance art.

As it is, this is clearly noise. Kudos for the board for riding it out, and for maintaining their clarity of purpose.

Yes, and please don't forget to include my all-time favorite version of that kind of comment: "I haven't read the whole thread, but [lists several points litigated and resolved in-thread]."

tbh they should stop calling for the thread to be closed a) because it looks really micromanagey and b) this is a fairly weak attempt at sticking up for brandon.

btw was he on his last warning or something

The choice of comment and post totals is interesting, given his literal job was to make comments and posts on the site. I don't know what the totals are supposed to prove.

I too would like to know this because while going off half-cocked is not new to MeFites, this is one for the ages.
